UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF THEIR MAJESTIES KING ABDULLAH AND QUEEN RANIA, the Royal Jordan Equestrian Federation held its show at the Royal Stables in Amman, Jordan. Her Royal Highness Princess Alia Al Hussein, President of the Royal Jordanian Equestrian Society and the Royal Jordanian Arabian Horse Association, presided over the annual show on October 8-10, 2009. The show has been held every year since 1989 and seems to improve year after year. The Executive Manager Ms. Galia Noorideen oversees every detail to ensure a smooth and well-functioning show. This year, Amman was blessed with rain two days before the show, which brought clear blue skies, bright sunshine, and vivid green show grounds. Beautiful centerpieces of colorful flowers and palm trees brought an extra air of festivity to the show. rider. Watching the horses gallop through the ring, one could hear the thunderous hoofbeats of the Ghazu from years long past. In addition to participants from Jordan, this year’s show included participants from Syria and Kuwait who did well, and studs from Saudi Arabia who also did very well. Classes included horses from yearlings through aged horses. The WAHO Trophy was awarded to Sheikha (Scudsly x Minstril’s Grace), bred and owned by Said Khair Stables, Jordan This year the cheering and fans were much more vocal than prior years. It was clear that certain farms had a large number of supporters at the show! On a sad note, it was reported two days after the show that the show champion, Matrix LL, had died unexpectedly. It was a very sad turn of events for the farm and family of owner Nofal Kahook of Jordan.

On the evening following the end of the show, international guests were treated to dinner at the farm of Sherifa Sarra Rakan, a member of the Disciplinary Committee, and her husband Mr. Raad Al Rifai. A large Bedu tent provided shelter from the cool evening breezes, and plush tribal carpets and pillows created a beautiful haven for the guests to enjoy a sumptuous dinner. International guests were also invited to attend the 100-year anniversary celebration of the founding of Amman, at a dinner hosted by the Circassian Society of Jordan. HRH Princess Alia was the honoree at the dinner, where guests were served traditional Circassian foods and Circassian music and dances were performed. A cross-cultural performance that was enjoyed by all! International guests departed to enjoy the exotic experiences of Jordan, ranging from the ancient castles of Ajloun and Kerak, to mud baths in the Dead Sea, to visiting the 2,500-year-old ruins of Petra.
