F
rom every vantage point, the 2009 Egyptian Event was a resounding success. With over 300 Egyptian Arabians competing for more than $195,000 in prize money, weeklong festivities and daily educational activities, an endurance ride and numerous socials besides, it was a fantastic week to be in Lexington, Kentucky, for The Pyramid Society’s 40th anniversary celebration. Whether this was your first Event or your twenty-ninth, it’s easy to lose count of all the reasons why The Event has garnered the reputation of being “more than a horse show; it’s an Event”! We’re proud to have this opportunity to share ten reasons why this statement has become our mandate:

1 The 2009 Egyptian Event paid out over $195,000 in prize money within only 68 classes – certainly a reflection of the dedication and involvement of Pyramid Society members! Participation at the Egyptian Event proves to be very lucrative for breeders, both in the showring and back in the barns, with endless networking opportunities. If you’re an Egyptian Arabian breeder, the Egyptian Event is THE place to be!

3 The Egyptian Event celebrates Egyptian Arabians as performance horses in various ways, from numerous western pleasure and hunter pleasure classes to the exciting Pyramid Challenge Endurance Ride. ... continues to become more and more popular each year. As an AERC- and AHA-sanctioned endurance ride open to all breeds, it draws horses both locally and from across the country. With the beautiful Kentucky Horse Park as the background, it is truly enjoyable for both riders and spectators. With the support and tireless efforts of Pyramid Society members Trisha Blackwell, Patricia Palm, Martha Lucas, Trustee, and Board Member Majid Alsayegh, the 2009 ride was quite successful. The top-placing straight Egyptian horses from both the 25- and 50-mile ride received a beautiful authentic Middle Eastern saddle generously donated by Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, and The Royal Stables, and the second-highest-placing straight Egyptian horses received a gold-plated authentic Middle Eastern stirrup as well. A special thank-you to Dr. Lahsen Fdail, Representative of Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, for attending the Egyptian Event and presenting these very special awards. 50-mile riders rose early on Saturday morning to begin their race at 6:30 a.m.

4 A highlight of the Egyptian Event each year are the fabulous barn parties, providing the opportunity for attendees to enjoy each other’s company and see representatives of the respective breeding programs. In order to allow more people to attend, this year’s parties were divided into two afternoons, based on barn numbers; Barns 5-12 held their parties on Wednesday and then Barns 1-4 held their parties on Thursday. Upon the close of morning classes, everyone exits the arena and heads to barns to enjoy fabulous food, champagne, and horse presentations. Pyramid Society members and farms work together to host their respective parties, which become grander and grander every year!

6 With the help of Pyramid Society Members Patricia Palm, Jennifer Parsons, Jamie Roberts, and many others, each day was filled with activities for youngsters. Throughout the week of the Event, they toured Hagyard Equine Hospital, the Kentucky Horse Park’s Hall of Champions, visited the Draft Horse Barns, took a horse-drawn tour of the Kentucky Horse Park, experienced judging firsthand, tried out their talents at the karaoke party at the Embassy Suites hotel on Friday night, and much more! 7 The wildly popular Stallion Showcase provides the audience with two opportunities to learn about leading Egyptian Arabian stallions and then get an up-close and personal look at each and every one of them. First on Wednesday afternoon and again on Saturday, each stallion enters the ring individually with the announcer providing information on that particular stallion. Then, once each stallion has entered the ring, members of the audience are welcomed to center ring to visit each stallion. The Stallion Showcase serves as both an exciting activity for attendees and an excellent promotional opportunity for stallion owners.
8 Beginning with the Membership Meeting and Breakfast Social and closing with the Egyptian Breeders Challenge Wine and Cheese and a Shopping and Social Hour in the middle, the Event is filled with activities and socials for attendees’ enjoyment. 10 One of the overwhelming reasons why the Egyptian Event is “more than just a horse show” is the camaraderie among exhibitors. From the first arriving headlights until the following Sunday’s taillights, there is a radiant glow at the Kentucky Horse Park, cast by the energy of those kindred spirits of Egyptian Arabian breeders, owners, enthusiasts, and devotees.
