f this year’s German Nationals had a motto, it would have been “Justice for all.” I don’t remember another year in which the results were so thoroughly dominated by one particular sire as these were by WH Justice. He was the sire or grandsire of all but one of the class winners and all but one of the title winners in the junior categories. And no, it wasn’t because all entries were by him in the first place; there usually were one or two per class, and one of them won it. Classes were as usual small, with an average of five horses per class, which is the way it usually is. Only a few German breeders took part, in this case a total of 18 exhibitors showing 39 horses, which is not exactly representative of a country with one of the largest breeding populations in the world. Moreover, of those 39 horses, 17 alone were exhibited by Sax Arabians. Sax Arabians once again swept up the foal titles, which has become something of a tradition. Throughout the year, Sax foals have been shown at various shows in Germany, and winning, and it was usually a different lot of foals at each show. And it does seem to have been a particularly good foal crop this year. For the Nationals, the Frankfurt foal champion and reserve were back: the colt Esstaan, by homebred sire Meshan Ibn Kubinec out of Esstasha by Essteem, and the filly Justina Bint Psayada, a WH Justice daughter out of Psayada Bint Psyche. They won their titles in the same order, too, except that in this case it was Silver for Esstaan and Bronze for Justina. 234 b ARABIAN HORSE WORLD b DECEMBER 2010

The Champion title went to the one newcomer in the group, Ajmana (Ajman Moniscione x Espanna Estopa). Her sire Ajman Moniscione is to date WH Justice’s premier son and appears to be his sire’s equal in every respect. His foals look so much like Justice’s foals, it is impossible to tell which are which. Two Justice daughters stood at the top in the yearling filly class, both very similar despite having different dams. The winner was Scarlett OS (out of Shak Lavanda by ZT Shakfantasy), bred by Osterhof Stud and owned by Verena Heiss, scoring just one-third of a point more than Muranas Nasheetah (out of AM Nioba by Alishaar El Bri), bred and owned by Michaela Weidner. Nasheetah tied with another exquisite filly, Sax Arabians’ Esskhija

Bint Essteema (Khidar x Essteema), but had a higher type score. This was a small but excellent class, and the two top fillies went on to take the Gold and Silver Champion titles, respectively. The Bronze title went to the winner of the class for two- and threeyear-old fillies, Sax Arabians’ three-year-old Tamice, yet another WH Justice daughter, this time out of the Russian-bred Tamara IV. The yearling colt class was the biggest in the show, and while it had the most obvious tail end, it did have a lot of quality with three superb bay colts at the top. The winner was the only one to score a 10 for type. This was Aragon OS, by — who else — WH Justice out of Al Shanina by Al Lahab, bred and owned by Osterhof Stud. He was followed by Bourhani Arabians’ homebred, very typey QR Marc son Bourhani Octavius (out of Psynesica by Psytadel) and by Venus Arabians’ homebred Obama (Vergil x Roma by Kubinec), last year’s reserve foal champion. Aragon OS was one of three colts exhibited by Osterhof, all of which won their respective classes and one of the titles. Aragon got the Gold Champion title, while Silver went to the two-year-old winner, Lance Lord OS. This is yet another WH Justice son, this time out of Swana by Kubinec, and he got 10s for both type and movement. Yet this was a very close call, as he tied with Sax Arabians’ dramatic, bold-moving Marshan (Meshan Ibn Kubinec x Marni), who scored two 10s for movement. However, Lance Lord had the higher type score, winning both the class and the Silver title. The winner of the three-year-old colts, and eventual Bronze Champion, was Jumanci OS, by Ajman Moniscione out of Praetoria by Kubinec. Jumanci scored two 20s each for movement and for type and with 43.33 tied for the highest score of the show. Second in his class was Jason S (Major x Jakaranda T), with another two 10s for movement, bred and owned by Jürgen Schäfer. Jason was one of the few horses at the show that

actually has some old German breeding in his pedigree. He also has something in common with Obama, Lance Lord OS, and Jumanci OS, in that his dam is a Kubinec daughter. As usual the senior classes were even fewer and smaller, with just two mare classes and one for stallions. The senior mare class had one of the two high point horses of the show and the eventual Gold Champion, F Samirah (Ali Valentino x Sarameena), an 11-year-old straight Egyptian mare bred and owned by the Friedmann family. She is no stranger to top honors, as she already has several titles to her name, including Best In Show at the Egyptian Event Europe a few years back. Both her parents were bred in the

U.S., and she has some Babson blood on her dam’s side. With two 10s for type, she won both the class and the championship. Second in the class as well as in the championship was Sax Arabians’ beautiful Espanna Estopa (Espano Estopa x Dezions Tifla), the dam of the foal champion Ajmana. Bronze went to the winner of the junior class, the four-year-old bay Makarra (Marwan Al Shaqab x SA Magic Karma by Magic Dream CAHR), bred by Michael Byatt and owned by Henrike Hörmann. A very refined bay mare, she was in fact the only imported horse in the entire show. As there was only one stallion class, the winner and second automatically went on to win the championship and reserve. This was another clean sweep for Sax Arabians with its two homebred gold premium stallions, Al Milan (Al Lahab x Milina) and Taymar (Kyro KA x Tamara IV), both by Egyptian sires out of Russian dams, and in fact both their dams are daughters of Ibn Narav. Al Milan was German Junior National Champion as a yearling, and, after being Reserve on another occasion, has now won the senior title as well. He has already sired winners himself, while Taymar, the winner of last year’s stallion registration show, has yet to prove himself. Because there was only the one class, a Bronze championship was not awarded.
