Katja Leibenath & Robin Denevan at The Infinity

Curator’s Statement Arc Fine Arts Consulting was established as a natural extension of the mission of Arc Gallery and Studios. Arc is dedicated to showcasing and promoting emerging and established artists in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since establishing Arc in 2010, the Gallery and Project Gallery have provided exhibition opportunities for over 1000 mostly local artists. Our artist studios are the working home for 15 outstanding local artists. Our goal has been to foster communiy; providing an arc between our vibrant Bay Area art scene and its art enthusiasts, collectors and businesses. Our consultants are uniquely qualified to build bridges between these communities. Collectively, the partners share over fifty years of experience in art galleries, art consulting, art non-profit volunteering & management, and art-related academic training. Our extensive experience and personal involvement with local art organizations, in particular, has allowed us to build an unrivaled network of relationships with artists here in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are blessed with some of the most prestigious art schools in the country. On a per capita basis San Francisco boasts a higher percentage of working artists than any other city in the country. The opportunity for local collectors and businesses to build collections which tap into and support these communities is unparalleled. Arc Fine Arts is singularly dedicated to fostering those connections. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work with The Infinity in curating their lobbies in San Francisco. And, we appreciate their strong commitment to working with local artists. Katja Leibenath

My paintings are figurative abstractions of either the human form or a specific place. I work from my own source material- photographs, sketches and plein air renderings of things I see on my travels. I translate this material into oil paintings over the course of many months in my studio. During the painting process the original object becomes obscured and less important, allowing something new and separate to emerge. The final painting is a record of my relationship to the process of painting itself, and marks the moment where subject becomes object and is ready for connection with the viewer. Originally from Germany with a background in architecture and art, I have been painting in San Francisco since 2006. My work is part of public and private collections internationally and has been exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and Atlanta, in addition to San Francisco.

Robin Denevan

My work is about process with an emphasis on the organic properties of the materials I use and how they mimic nature and landscape. I do not render a landscape as much as I allow the materials to naturally create one. I never work from photographs. I feel strongly about generating images that are personal to me and want to capture the immediacy of the landscape in my drawings. My sketches are mostly done on the move, in a boat, on a plane, or while hiking. It would certainly be easier to paint from photos but I would lose the movement, spontaneity and emotion integral to drawing. My process begins with drawings of the exotic landscapes I’ve visited which are the source material for my paintings once I’ve returned home to my studio in San Francisco. My daily walks with my dog have been a surprising influence on my work. Deltas, rivers and lagoons have always been my subjects, particularly areas inundated with water. Walking the trails along the San Francisco bay frequently has motivated me to draw the coastline and surrounding foliage. How the landscape changes with the tides and the weather has been my primary interest.
