Foreword The How-to-do Table Top Resources Book is created for the Parent Resource Library (Room) at THK EIPIC @ Tampines. This booklet is created based on the how-to-do table top resources listed on the Parent Resource Library (E-Version). How-to-do table top resources comprise of a series of resources that aid in educating, reinforcing finemotor skills and the learning of sorting by colours. Concepts such as 1 to 1 correspondence are also practiced by children when they use these table top resources. Recreating these table top resources will benefit you as it adds on to the list of activities for your child at home. It will be a breeze to recreate it as majority of the materials needed are easy to find. Just follow these step-by step instructions and you will be good to go! Felt Sorter

Materials needed: • • • • • •
A5 sized felt cloth 1 circular plastic container 1 A4 coloured paper (colour of choice) Scissors Penknife Double-sided tape
Instructions to prepare felt sorter: 1.
Cut felt cloth into coin-sized circles of any design (eg.flowers and buttons- shown below). 10 to 15 felt coins are needed for this table top resource.
2.
Use a penknife to cut an opening at the center of the lid of the circular plastic container. The opening should be big enough for felt coins to fit in easily.
3.
Wrap the circular plastic container (including the lid), using colour paper and double-sided tape.
4.
Ensure that there are no sharp corners on the completed sorter.
Felt Sorter

Instructions for activity: 1.
Remove felt coins from the sorter and place them at the side of the sorter.
2.
Ask the child to insert felt coins into the opening of the sorter. If the child requires assistance, provide hand-over-hand assistance.
3.
The activity is completed when all the felt circles are successfully inserted into the sorter.
Paper Sorter

Materials needed: • •

1 tube plastic container 1 A4 colored paper of each colour (Red, Black and Blue or Yellow, Black and Green) Scissors Penknife Double-sided tape
Instructions to prepare paper sorter: 1.
Wrap and paste the exterior of the tube plastic container (not the lid) with black coloured paper using the double-sided tape.
2.
Paste the paper (excluding black coloured paper) equally on each half of the lid using double-sided tape. Do not dispose the remaining paper.
3.
Use a penknife to cut an opening at the center of each half of the lid.
4.
Cut the remaining paper (excluding black coloured paper) into strips of 4cm by 1cm using scissors (shown below). A minimum of 5 strips are needed for each colour.
5.
Ensure that there are no sharp corners on the completed sorter.
Paper Sorter

Instructions for activity: 1.
Remove all strips of paper from the sorter and place them at the side of the sorter.
2.
Ask the child to insert the strips of paper into the matching coloured holes. If the child requires assistance, provide hand-overhand assistance.
3.
The activity is completed when all the strips of papers are successfully inserted into the sorter and correctly organized according to its colours.
Straw Sorter

Materials needed: • •
1 empty shoe Box 2 straws of each colour (Red, Blue, Yellow and Green) • 1 A5 coloured paper of each colour (Red, Blue, Yellow and Green) • 1 A4 cupboard • Scissors • Penknife • Double-sided tape
Instructions to prepare straw sorter: 1.
Cut all straws into halves.
2.
Paste paper using double-sided tape on the lid of the shoe box(Yellow, Blue, Red and Green according- shown below).
3.
Use a penknife to cut out 4 holes on every coloured section. Ensure that the size of the hole is big enough to fit through a straw.
4.
Cut the A4 cupboard into 2 lengths (length of the box and width of the box) to prepare for the partition in the box. On the mid-section of the shorter cut out, cut through ¾ of the board. Slit both boards together, creating a ‘+’ sign. Once this is done, fit it into the shoe box.
5.
Ensure that there are no sharp corners on the completed sorter.
Straw Sorter

Instructions for activity: 1.
Remove all the straws from the sorter and place them at the side of the sorter.
2.
Ask the child to insert the straws into the matching coloured holes. If the child requires assistance, provide hand-over-hand assistance.
3.
The activity is completed when all the straws are successfully inserted into the sorter and correctly organized according to its colours.
Sticks Sorter

Materials needed: • •
1 empty shoe box 1 A5 coloured paper of each colour (Yellow, Blue, Green and Red) • 1 A4 cupboard • 4 ice-cream sticks of each colour (Yellow, Blue, Green and Red) • Scissors • Penknife • Double-sided tape
Instructions to prepare sticks sorter: 1.
Paste all coloured paper equally on the lid of the Shoe Box. Ensure that it follows the colour sequence (shown below).
2.
Use a penknife to cut an opening in the center of each coloured section. Ensure that the size of the hole is big enough to fit through an ice cream stick.
3.
Cut the A4 cupboard into 4 parts and slid into the Shoe Box to act as a divider.
4.
Ensure that there are no sharp corners on the completed sorter.
10 Sticks Sorter
Instructions for activity: 1.
Remove all the ice-cream sticks from the sorter and place it at the side of the sorter.
2.
Ask the child to insert the ice-cream sticks into the matching coloured holes. If the child requires assistance, provide handover-hand assistance.
3.
The activity is completed when all the ice-cream sticks are successfully inserted into the sorter and correctly organized according to its colours.
11 Button Sorter Materials needed: • • • • • • • •
1 empty shoe box 1 circular plastic container 4 A5 cupboard Paint (Red, Yellow, Blue) Scissor Paint Brush Penknife Scotch Tape
Instructions to prepare button sorter: 1.
Use 3 of the A5 cupboards and cut circles of 2 different sizes (small and big- shown below). Paint each circle with the colours available. A minimum of 4 button circles are needed for each size and colour difference.
2.
Paint half of the lid according to the colours available after segmenting into 6 equal parts. Ensure that it follows the colour sequence (shown below).
12 Button Sorter 3.
Cut a circle smaller than the circumference of the circular plastic container, on the unpainted half of the lid. Ensure that the circular plastic container does not sink in entirely into the box.
4.
Use a penknife to cut an opening in the center of each section according to the size of the small and big circle, once the paint has dried. Ensure that the size of the hole is big enough to fit the circles.
5.
Cut the last A5 cupboard into 4 parts (3 strips of the width of the box and 1 strip of half of the length of the box) to prepare for the partition in the box. On the mid-section of the strip of half of the length of the box, make 2 cuts through 他 of the board.
6.
Slit all the boards together (shown below) and fit it into the shoe box. Secure with scotch tape.
7.
Ensure that there are no sharp corners on the completed sorter.
13 Button Sorter
Instructions for activity: 1.
Remove all the button circles from the sorter and place them into the circular plastic container.
2.
Ask the child to insert the button circles into the matching coloured holes and correct sizes. If the child requires assistance, provide handover-hand assistance.
3.
The activity is completed when all button circles are successfully inserted into the sorter and correctly organized according to the colours and sizes.
Pegs Cup

Materials needed: • •
1 plastic cup 8 colourful pegs (Can comprise of more than 1 colour to add variation)
Instructions for activity: 1.
Place all pegs in the cup.
2.
Ask the child to pick up pegs from inside of the cup and clip onto the rims of the cup. If the child requires assistance, provided hand-overhand assistance.
3.
The activity is done when all pegs are successfully clipped onto the rim of the cup.
Pegs Cup with 15 Colour Chart Materials needed: • •

1 plastic cup 12 colourful pegs (Should comprise of 6 colours) 1 A4 white paper Colour pencils Scissor
Instruction to prepare pegs Cup with colour chart: 1.
Cut the A4 white paper into half. Using only half of the paper, segment the paper into 12 parts.
2.
Colour the parts using colour pencil according to colour of the pegs used for the activity. Ensure that on each line of colour chart, there are repetition of 3 colours (shown below).
Pegs Cup with 16 Colour Chart
Instructions for activity: 1.
Place all pegs in the cup.
2.
Ask the child to pick up pegs from inside of the cup and clip onto the matching colour on the colour chart. If the child requires assistance, provided hand-over-hand assistance.
3.
The activity is completed when all pegs are successfully clipped onto the colour chart correctly.
