episode 1

So you love Karan Johar and his Space. You are wondering how you can bring some of the magic in his space to yours? Perhaps you don’t have an entire room for a home office and your interests overlap between entertainment, media, work and everyday living and you crave a bit of drama.

So a quick recap to get this look: • Decide your functional requirements and how they effect your planning • Choose the color that most represents your breakaway space • Configure how you will separate and yet open the space - what kind of partitions, jali’s, french doors, curtains etc. If you have plenty of space you can just use another room for a home-office • Once you’ve made the big decisions lets have fun - for this particular space what is the language of the backdrop walls that appeals to you - you can use grids, wallpapers, and a host of other creative treatments • Spend most of your time and money on the key pieces that may be the most useful or visually strong, either a collectors editions or alternatively build your own, or repurpose it • Let the other furniture blend into the creative language of the walls • Do NOT go over the top with the flooring, you have enough impact already. • lastly, lounge, read, write, work, view and enjoy your space

episode 2

What do you do when you are looking for ideas to set up a reception, or a relaxed nook for a window or perhaps both, like in Dia’s space. We explore two really current ideas sweeping the interior design industry at the design HQ: integrating greenery into your space and Do-it-yourself furniture. Reception components mostly remain the same, Mirrors, consoles, benches, storage and an artistic statement. So how do you go about putting them together differently and effectively?

So a quick recap to get this look: • Start by sourcing your favorite console and then look for clues in an art story to bring color into the finishing of the console for example, • if you are budget conscious touches of luxe materials work well as accents rather than the whole. • Once the art, mirror and console story is composed, see if you have space or a requirement for more furniture that twists the idea of stereotypical design. • Don’t be afraid of color - take calculated risks with your choices - looking for complementary and contrast linkages between design elements rather than random colors. • Distress and aged paint are the rage but high gloss and matt color surfaces in controlled bursts can be even better, like this race car red that comes off the stars of the collar in the art work. • Focus on an authentic green story - what fragrances or colors appeal to you - perhaps its the light fresh green of a leaf in the rain or a the deep green of the forest or perhaps just a mix. This will help you build a unique window planter, where you can add sculptures or feeders to complete the composition. • Don’t forget to bring the green inside the space as well - you can use a single plant with a grow light or a small vertical column green planter if you lack space or an entire green wall if you up for the maintenance.

episode 3

How do you design a secondary space to be less formal and more fun! How do you create a space that allows you and your friends and family to put your feet up, lounge, read, sleepover, watch tv or just vegetate. I’m going to give you an alternative to the traditional living room seating.

So a quick recap to get this look: • Separate space visually by using physical objects like a unit and/or use a design device like the anamorphic projection to create the appearance of more depth when you lack space. • Go lower with the seating and higher with its comfort and support. • Huddle sectional sofas closely together to create intimacy. • Combine sectionals with mattresses, divans or large cushions to complete the seating vocabulary. • Go art intense by focusing art on one wall, or go quirky with a few unique places that tell stories about your life or interests. • Mix and match rugs together rather than using one central carpet. • Add objects and accessories with color pops and a slight bit of clash to create tensional interest.

episode 4

The updated European white bedroom space: Gauri & Nainika’s house is a treasure chest of varying European design influences but in her bedroom, Gauri channels peace and Parisian chic.

And here’s a quick recap! • Start with the bed, four poster it if you can, a flea market find or contemporary works as well and then see if the same style in side tables or a mix and match works. • Lighting is critical so the side lamps and central lighting can be more pronounced. • To beat a flat and monotonous white fabric story, layer, texture and volumize - adding color suprise, trim and detail for memorability. • integrate a DIY white story to add your own touch, I added my own customized white chair. • white bedroom stories focus on mood and feeling so make sure you get both visual and tactile feedback from all the materials. • Mirrors add movement, opticality and play to a space, also amplifying light. • damask wallpapers, integrating white in pattern and defining wallpaper usage with proportions and trim are great ways to finally frame the space.

episode 5 Contextual minimalism is all about finding your version of minimalism. In Rajkumar's house, sometimes taking out things from the space is a great way of designing it. It's really about what isn't there so you can enjoy what is.

So a quick recap to get this look: • Don't forget to experiment with different interpretations of minimalism when it comes to the furniture. Having all the furniture speak the same language can be boring sometimes. • White and beige are important colours to tell a minimalist story. But you might need to spike it up with little bits of your own personality. • You can use anything from photographs to fabric to tell your minimalist story. • When looking for minimal furniture, don't forget to pay attention to comfort, quality and lack of ornamentation. However, there must be a certain amount of detail to that minimalist design. • It's hard to achieve the minimal feel without the right kind of spacing between objects.

episode 6 Incredibly inspired by the world of Sabyasachi, we decided to do something completely different. We're going to look at certain themes or elements that you can use to do your own DIY.

The Sabyasachi vintage glam look relies heavily on two components to tell the story: 1. The treatment of the wall, it's ornamentation and it's embellishment. 2. The lighting that goes on it. • For lighting when you pick a period chandelier, you can look at two criteria: one, the colour and two, the scale. • You too can develop an artwork story by picking the right kind of art. • Hanging carpets up on the wall can highlight a piece of art or sculpture or even just to add warmth on the wall. • The furniture pieces are always English or French classical inspired seating. You can either do a tone on tone fabric story and you can do the same story with contrast. • You can cluster ceramic plates vertically on a surface and also bring them down to the horizontal surface of a console or a table which is placed against the wall and you can finish the look by adding another sculpture in front of that.

episode 7 Neha’s home story is told with her fridge magnets, flowers and the many accessories that accompany them in an otherwise fuss-free home. How can we tell our design stories better? Most of us can’t afford to do over an entire space with new furniture. Enter the accessory story – what to pick and st where to use them. How do you contextualise and compose an interior space using accessories?

So a quick recap to get this look: • Before getting accessory happy, don't forget to prep the space. • Don't forget to change the look of the wall and add an area rug on the floor. • When you bring back your seating, don't forget to create some tension in your table elements. • Your accessories can be arranged appropriately in a wall unit and the leftover space of the wall can accommodate another kind of accessory. • Don't forget to get the greens and the flowers in. • Decide what kind of accessories, placement and compositional style as I indicated before, and voilà, you're done!
