WASHINGTON, DC CHAIR DUNCAN LYONS | GENSLER | FIRMWIDE COMMERCIAL OFFICE BUILDING DEVELOPERS PRACTICE AREA LEADER Lyons serves as Design Director for architecture in the D.C. office. In a career spanning more than three decades, he has designed award-winning buildings for a variety of institutional and commercial clients in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region, Europe, Asia, and Australia. His passion for high-performance buildings and sustainable design has led to LEED certification for many of his projects, including three at the Platinum level. Lyons earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Bath in England and is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
SPEAKERS PETER ARBOUR | VIDARIS | SENIOR CONSULTANT Arbour has over 15 years of experience working on new construction projects, specializing as a facade system designer and consultant to architects. His professional work has been focused on the conception, detailing, and construction of custom-designed building facades. He has a wide-ranging knowledge of building materials and the procedures of fabrication, assembly, and construction of diverse building enclosure systems. His experience comprises the elaboration and development of architectural concepts in the design process and their materialization and transformation through the fabrication and construction processes.
MIDE AKINSADE | HOK | SENIOR PROJECT DESIGNER Akinsade, AIA, NOMA, LEED AP is a senior project designer in HOK’s Washington, D.C. office. He has close to two decades of building design experience from mixed-use office/hotel complexes, academic projects, science and technology complexes and buildings, retail and entertainment projects and urban master plans. He worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland SofA, and is a guest critic and juror at various architecture programs including, University of Maryland, Catholic University, Morgan State University and Howard University.
JOSEPH ANTUNOVICH | ANTUNOVICH ASSOCIATES | PRESIDENT Antunovich is the president of Antunovich Associates, an architecture, planning, and interior design firm with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C. He leads the principals of the firm, who possess a broad range of professional expertise that encompasses both private and public sector work. Joe’s experience includes master planning university campuses and large mixed-use commercial developments, as well as programming and designing corporate campuses, historic preservation and adaptive re-use projects, museums, speculative office buildings, higher education facilities, and retail and residential complexes.
JEFF BARBER | GENSLER | DESIGN LEADER, PRINCIPAL Barber has a distinguished 29-year career, providing design oversight for noteworthy architectural projects in the Washington metro region including 455 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, with a carefully composed woven glass skin that creates a strong articulated facade; Ballpark Square, which will anchor a vibrant, new mixed-use development; and 111 K Street, NE, a jewel-box building. Barber’s point of view bridges the shared interest of both building owner and user.
DIANA DARLING | THE ARCHITECT’S NEWSPAPER | PUBLISHER | CONFERENCE DIRECTOR Darling is CEO and cofounder of The Architect’s Newspaper, celebrating its 12th year. The A|N media company consists of print and digital publications covering architecture and design news, as well as the Facades+ conferences. As A|N’s publisher, Darling won the AIA National Collaboration Award, Grassroots Preservation Award, and ASLA NY’s President’s Award. She began her publishing career as director of print production for The Gap’s European markets. She holds a BS from The University of Texas at Austin.
DANIEL INOCENTE | HKS | LINE | DESIGNER & RESEARCHER Inocente is involved in computational research and the development of design methodologies that lead to meaningful interdisciplinary exchanges. He has worked with design, science, and engineering establishments that lead him to continuously seek out approaches to problem solving, which challenge the role of technology in architecture. Prior to HKS LINE, Inocente worked for both Gehry Partners and Gehry Technologies on projects including the Guggenheim in Abu Dhabi, and Battersea Development in London. He is focused on parametric modeling, analysis, technologies research, and geometric rationalization methods for facade systems.
JOHN JACKSON | SGH | SENIOR STAFF II Jackson has more than 13 years of experience in facade design and engineering as part of SGH’s Building Technology group in the Washington, D.C. office having worked on projects both domestically and abroad. He applies his expertise in the design and engineering of complex glazing systems, specializing in curtain walls, double skin facades, structural glass, and computational design. Jackson is actively involved with his alma mater, Penn State University, where he earned degrees in both architecture and structural engineering, and is an active member of ASTM subcommittee E06.52, Structural Use of Glass in Buildings.
SALO LEVINAS | SHINBERG LEVINAS | PRINCIPAL-IN-CHARGE Levinas is an internationally recognized architect with over 35 years experience. His work brings innovative approaches to challenges presented by a broad array of institutional, commercial, and residential clients. Levinas’ work has received awards from the AIA and other international organizations. He received an MA from the University of Buenos Aires’ SofA and Urban Design in 1981. In 2016, the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce selected Levinas as the recipient of the Hispanic Leader in Architecture Award.
JARED OLDROYD | CLARK CONSTRUCTION GROUP | PROJECT EXECUTIVE Oldroyd is a vice president and business unit leader at Clark Construction Group responsible for monumental, public assembly, and private development work in the mid-Atlantic region. He has served in a leadership role in the construction of many award-winning projects, including the U.S. Coast Guard headquarters, CityCenterDC, and office, hotel, apartment, and condo projects. He leads the project team constructing the Museum of the Bible, a new state-of-the-art museum building and an air rights addition to a fully occupied government tenant office building in D.C.
AMIR ROTH | U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY | BEM TECHNOLOGY MANAGER Roth is the technology manager for the DOE’s Building Technologies Office building energy modeling (BEM) sub-program where he manages the EnergyPlus and OpenStudio projects. Before coming to DOE in 2010, he was an associate professor of computer science at the University of Pennsylvania. He has a B.S. in physics from Yale University and a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also has a wife, two children, a black lab, a minivan, and unhealthy passion for the Philadelphia Eagles. He is a member of ASHRAE, IBPSA, ACM, IEEE and BGN.
