Conference Co-Chair SAUL JABBAWY Director Of Design, Principal, Ewing Cole Jabbawy believes that addressing the well-being of both patients and caregivers through the design of functional yet elegant and soothing environments is one of the most gratifying roles in the building industry. With over 25 years’ experience, Jabbawy has led the design of the firm’s largest, most technically sophisticated projects. He has won AIA Awards for facilities at Cooper University Hospital, Jefferson Health, the University of Pennsylvania, SUNY Upstate Medical University, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, among others, and was named HCD 10 Architect of the Year by Healthcare Design Magazine in 2016.

Speakers CARL EMBERGER

Technical Director, Coscia Moos Architecture Emberger supports Coscia Moos Architecture’s staff in documentation, detailing, BIM development, and code analysis and interpretation. His work as a registered architect and project manager spans 20 years and includes: multi-family housing, mixed-use, educational and religious institutional projects, cultural projects, and private residences. Emberger applies his unique problem-solving skills and attentiveness to complex details on challenging project conditions in both extensive renovations and ground-up construction. SCOTT ERDY

Design Principal, Erdy McHenry Architecture Erdy’s work pursues a methodology where form embodies purpose, and sense of place is revealed through the careful intersection of program, site, and culture. His designs have received accolades from local and national press, garnering over 30 state, local, and national awards for their celebration of place, program, and cultural relevancy. The strength of Erdy’s work emerges from the conceptual potential of practicality, constructability, and normative programs into architecture of poetic beauty and significance. MARK FAULKNER

Associate Professor of Architecture and Associate Chair, Weitzman School, University of Pennsylvania In her teaching and research, Fierro addresses issues of technology within contemporary architecture and urban culture. She teaches and coordinates design studios in the first-year graduate level and supervises the Masters Thesis program at the University of Pennsylvania. Fierro authored The Glass State: The Technology of the Spectacle/Paris 1981-1998. She is a registered architect in the State of New York. PAUL-ARTHUR HELLER

Heller brings 12 years’ experience in the planning and design of a range of project types, including: mixed-use, academic, research, and civic and government facilities. His projects reflect a commitment to creating spaces that are functional, flexible, and meet the expectations and aspirations of the users. Heller most recently worked with Wexford Science + Technology on the design of their projects in Philadelphia’s University City.

Henry has over 30 years’ leadership and continuous improvement expertise in multiple industries including: retail, financial, insurance, and healthcare. She has been involved in several building projects and is currently consulting on Essentia Health’s initiative to replace St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. The Vision Northland project is one of the largest healthcare projects in northern Minnesota. Henry brings strategic insight, creative problem solving, and a background in Lean Six Sigma at the Master Black Belt level. ELIZABETH KAHLEY

Kahley has led design teams for projects at a variety of scales in both the public and private sector, including a new advanced manufacturing training facility for Bucks County Community College and a masterplan for Temple University’s Tyler School of Art. Kahley’s experience and prior engineering education propel her deep interest in high-performance building envelope design, thermal comfort strategies, as well as energy-use optimization through rigorous collaboration with climate design experts. BARBARA KLINKHAMMER

Executive Dean of the College of Architecture and the Built Environment, Jefferson University

Klinkhammer is recognized as a thought leader in architecture and urban design, as well as a women pioneer in the fields of architecture and construction. She came to Jefferson University from the University of Tennessee, where, among other roles, she served as Chair of the Graduate Architecture Programs. Previously, she taught at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany. As an accomplished scholar, her research focuses on the architect Le Corbusier and on color in the built environment. She is working on her forthcoming book After Purism: Le Corbusier and Color. Klinkhammer serves on the Women’s Leadership Council of the Association of Collegiate Architecture Schools (ACSA).

For over 25 years, Maimon has worked to move architecture forward while creating projects that remain deeply rooted to place and culture. He lectures internationally on sustainability, tectonics, building within historic precincts, and the role of architecture in diplomacy. ROBERT A. MCCONNELL

McConnell oversees the firm’s business and operational activities. He also works on many of the firm’s large-scale projects. He directs the earliest phases of design work, shaping and guiding projects through the critical design decisions as they relate to program, site, and owner input. McConnell enjoys working collaboratively with clients and other design professionals to find inventive solutions that address the complex needs of a project. JOSEPH F. RITCHIE

Vice President, Development, Brandywine Realty Trust Previously, as an entrepreneur, Ritchie acted as a principal and a fiduciary to develop and execute real estate and economic development solutions for clients including the Wharton Small Business Development Center and the Virgin Islands Port Authority. He led the Northeast Region for The Burks Companies in new business development, and served as a principal of Lomax Real Estate Partners, sourcing and executing urban development projects across product type in Philadelphia and New Jersey. He was the founding CEO of the City of Newark’s economic development corporation under Mayor Cory Booker. Ritchie spent several years with Trammell Crow Company, as national Higher Education practice leader and a regional development VP. He worked to create a program to support minority entrepreneurs in Cape Town, South Africa, and was a consultant for Deloitte and Touche. He has an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He serves on the boards of NAIOP Greater Philadelphia, the University City District, and the Old City District, chairs the Old City Community Fund, and sits on the African American Museum of Philadelphia’s Re-Imagine Facility Committee.

STI Firestop Alterman joined STI Firestop in 2015 and has extensive experience in construction. He is certified at Level 2 of Firestop Instructional Training (FITII). He has conducted firestop trainings for the International Firestop Council and STI to a variety of groups including: architects, engineers, consultants, code officials, inspectors, and all type of trades. Pilkington Sword heads Pilkington’s interest in historic restoration. With a 15-plus-year tenure, mostly in glass manufacturing, he is involved in various technological developments, expanding education in glass and looking for new opportunities to provide value for customers creating products with coated- and flat-glass products. He has a ceramic engineering degree from The Ohio State University and an MBA from California State University, Sacramento. CASEY WEISDOCK

International Masonry Institute Weisdock provides support to the AEC community in greater Philadelphia and Delaware. An architectural conservator with an M.S. in Architectural Conservation from the University of Pennsylvania, Weisdock’s career has focused on the preservation of historic structures through research of traditional materials/methods and development of contemporary restoration techniques. Weisdock currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Association for Preservation Technology–Delaware Valley Chapter.
