the process of kintsgui treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. it uses the imperfection as an oppurtunity to beauitfy the pottery. the hillsides of cincinnati have been ravaged by urban development and erosion. the design for the urban wildlife research center seeks to act as the “kintsugi” for the site. it stiches the landscape back together with structure and restoration, all the while making the landscape more beautiful and functional than before.
