The Co-Housing Occupancy Type served as the driving factor for this design. Developing opportunities for social and private spaces, the building focused on the kitchen as a central point for social interaction on the first floor. The second floor provides a lofted space over-looking the double height dining area. By utilizing a slight angle for the Shed Roof, the roof reflects the openness of the front of the house and the privacy of the back of the house. The decision to have a bedroom on the first floor allows a potential landlord to lease out the other rooms while maintaining privacy. With one bedroom on the first floor and two on the second, this design can also operate as a Family or Starter Home Occupancy Type with a first floor master.

This design was successful in many ways. It has provided a solution to a changing market; one where strangers are living in close quarters. While the element of privacy is addressed in the large bedrooms at the back of the program, there is opportunity for people to come together. Emphasis on spaces such as dining and kitchen in the program provide the user the opportunity to control social activity in an open and welcoming area, rather than a smaller, intimate space that may feel uncomfortable for strangers to share.
