TO WORK COLLABORATIVELY WITH FARMERS AND RANCHERS IN THE UNITED STATES TO REMOVE POLLUTION AND GAS EMISSIONS FROM THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR AS MUCH AS FEASIBLY POSSIBLE; INCLUDING:

BY SUPPORTING LOCAL FAMILY FARMING

BY INVESTING IN SUSTAINABLE FARMING AND LAND USE PRACTICES THAT INCREASE SOIL HEALTH

BY BUILDING A MORE SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEM THAT ENSURES UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOODS

PROJECT THESIS

THIS PROJECT AIMS TO INCORPORATE THE GOALS OF THE GREEN NEW DEAL TO CREATE A NEIGHBORHOOD INSTITUTION WHICH PROVIDES HEALTHY FOODS AND LIVING SPACES WHILE SUPPORTING THE SURROUNDING CONTEXT AND BROADENING THE CONVERSATION SURROUNDING SMALL-SCALE URBAN FARMING AND SUSTAINABLE LIVING.

THE USE OF MULTIPLE FARMING STRATEGIES SUCH AS RAISED BEDS, HOOP HOUSES, AND HYDROPONIC SYSTEMS ENABLES THIS FACILITY TO PRODUCE QUANTITIES OF FRESH PRODUCE YEAR-ROUND, TO BE SOLD OR OTHERWISE DISTRIBUTED TO FOOD BANKS AND CO-OPERATIVE FOOD CENTER IN LOWER PRICE HILL AND OTHER NEIGHBORHOODS IN CINCINNATI. THE GASKET BETWEEN LIVING AND WORKING SPACE IS EXPLORED WITH A MODULAR SYSTEM OF MULTI-RESIDENTIAL HOUSING, CREATING DYNAMIC INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SPACES FOR RESIDENTS TO ENJOY WHILE PARTAKING IN THE DAILY OPERATIONS OF THE FARM.

WHILE ALSO RESPONDING ARCHITECTURALLY TO THE CONTEXT OF LOWER PRICE HILL’S HISTORIC DISTRICT AND CINCINNATI’S HISTORY AS A CENTER OF INDUSTRY AND COMMERCE, THE LPH URBAN AGRICULTURE INITIATIVE IS A PROPOSED STEP TOWARDS THE REVITALIZATION OF OUR EVOLVING URBAN ENVIRONMENTS.
