LEITH RUN RECREATION CABINS The main goal of this project was to offer lodging at a section of the river that allows the most island stops for the kayak challenge. The project also augments on the existing infrastructure at the existing camp and extends its use to cater to hikers of the popular Scenic River Trail. The sets of cabins offer an elevated and practical stay in nature. They also tackle the drastic shift in elevation from the river to the start of the trail, opening up a water access point on the western side of the site. Through the implementation of communal spaces I hope to encourage community interaction and encourage more people to participate in the Kayak Challenge. Yara Alandia

Hiking and Kayaking Trip My proposal suggests breaking up a segment of the river to create an ideal 2 day trip with lodging provided for the overnight stay at a halfway point. To maximize the 2 day trip I’ve chosen the stretch between the Hanibal dam and the Willow Island dam. The stretch offers anywhere between a 25.5 miles kayaking journey (including 8 islands), to a shorter one of 17 miles (including 5 islands) for the less experienced kayakers. The area surrounding the site for my project has many more opportunities outside of kayaking. The site is located inside the Wayne National Forest in New Matamoras, Ohio. The Wayne National Forest offers a variety of recreational activities that include fishing, nature viewing and hiking. The Scenic River Trail is directly connected to the campground site of the project proposal. The trail is open to mountain biking, hiking and wildlife viewing. As a result one can choose to extend their Kayaking adventure by a day and enjoy the outdoors even further on a trail.
