BOATHOUSE The need for outdoor recreation on and around the Ohio RIver is evident. The improvement of the river’s health and accessibility is vital to making the Ohio River a space for activity and community, as well as encouraging economic and ecologic growth. A boathouse on the edge of the river will provide resources and supplies to properly utilize and appreciate recreation on the river. Supporting nature trails on the boathouse site will engage the landscape with the water and complement the efforts of the boathouse.

↑ Wetlands Perspective - Enriching the landscape with wetlands and other native plants is important to the river’s health. “Harmful algae blooms” is a big problem along the river. Manure and fertilizers, in farmland runoff, overflow septic systems and fail wastewater lines. The blooms can bring along sickness and possible death for pets and it is extremely dangerous to health (drinking water) and recreation economy. Wetland buffers along rivers and creeks can help prevent these harmful substances from polluting the river.

← Boathouse Site Plan The boathouse extrudes into the river. The program is surrounded by native plants and the trails breakoff in each direction from the building. A looped parking lot also molds into the trails and boathouse program to allow for easy acces for visitors, whether they came for the kayak challenge or a nice stroll along the river.
