Modest Modules Studio
Professor Terry Boling Anna Engelhardt, Alexandra Steigerwald The main focus of this design was to not only create something affordable and sustainable, but also to cater to all stages of ones’ life. Whether this be living alone, being with friends, raising a family, or growing old. To accomplish this, we designed 3 different unit types; a studio unit, a shared living unit, and a private living unit. The studio unit would accommodate one or two people looking for a small, but comfortable space. The shared and private living units were designed in tandem to accommodate larger families and encourage flexibility. The shared unit contains more public areas such as a living room, kitchen, and laundry, while the private unit includes the bedrooms and a full bathroom. The shared living unit and the studio unit were designed similarly to enable adaptability for the residents depending on their stage of life. We created a system to assist in the organization of the units and their communities. Based on the relationships the residents have with each other, their community and shared outdoor space will change. This ensures the flexibility needed in everyday life for years to come.
