THE SAINTS SUMMER EXPERIENCE ST. ANDREW’S EPISCOPAL SCHOOL
Get Ready for a Whole New Experience!
SUMMER 2017
Hello, Campers and Parents! Camp last summer was a blast, and 2017 is shaping up to be the best Saints Summer Experience ever. All of the construction is complete and we’ve got bright, shiny new spaces all over both campuses to use this summer. This is our 67th year in operation. Each summer since 1950, a team of dedicated St. Andrew’s faculty, staff and upper school students have staged a comprehensive, exciting camp experience for students in the Jackson area. Everyone is welcome – you don’t have to be a St. Andrew’s student to be a part of the Saints Summer Experience – so tell your friends and family! The Experience is way more than day care – we incorporate extensive gardening and cooking experiences into each day, along with Zumba, immersive STEM lab sessions, creative learning classes, outside games and free play. Students in Kindergarten through 4th grade will travel to an exciting destination each week for a field trip. We engage the whole child – mind, body and spirit – and they should come home each day tired, happy and ready to do it all again the next day. This year we’re introducing a new day camp especially for rising 5th – 9th grades. The camp will take place on our Middle School campus in Ridgeland and will be co-directed by 8th Grade Latin teacher Megan Whitacre and 5th Grade Math teacher Toby Lowe. They’ve cooked up an exciting curriculum with weekly themes like Simple Machines, Shark Tank, and Escape! Campers will have fun class sessions each morning and will then eat lunch and head to the Briarwood Pool. • • •

But how did they accomplish so much without our modern tools? This week, campers will get hands-on experience with the notable inventions of these ancient civilizations. Week 2: Simple Machines (June 12 – 16) “Give me a fulcrum, and I shall move the world.” Thus spoke Archimedes, and we shall investigate the truth to his words. Week 3: The Way Things Work (June 19 – 23) Campers take on their own engineering challenges this week, by designing and constructing bridges made from different miniature materials. Week 4: Shark Tank (June 26 – 30) Do you have a million dollar idea? This week, campers will design a product that improves upon something they use often. Week 5: Escape! (July 3 - 7*) All the rage lately, escape rooms involve a series of puzzles that participants trapped inside need to solve in order to get out.
