Health and Service
Location: Clinic at Sarafa bazaar(Market) Old Karachi, Pakistan. Area: 1600 sqft /150 sqm Type: Healthcare and service.
Traveling through the narrow streets of Saddar(old Karachi) is an experience that unfolds the true essence of the rich culture in old Karachi. Old colonial buildings in close proximity dominate the area. Sarafa Bazaar, located in the heart of kharader, Saddar, envelopes much of the old city. One experiences a change of scale as the building in cluster encloses to create a neighbourhood of its own.
Context.
Shards of light shimmers on the ground as it makes its way through the concrete jungle. The hustle bustle and enchanting sound and sight of the goldsmiths, makes Sarafa bazaar one of the very few localities that offers this character. Detached from the amenities of the city, this seasoned locality needed much uplift to restore its sense of community and belonging.

Area: 130,000 sqft , 12,077 sqm Type: Artist colony- Residence. The commune now, is a single warehouse situated in Sadiq godown ; a colony of old warehouses. The sounds and lights of urban Karachi and the colours and chaos of Miskeen Gali(street), surround it. The expansion of the Commune brings together a creative gathering space for artists. The agenda is promotion of visual and performing arts and strengthening of the artist community in Karachi and beyond. Commune provides an alternative exhibit and performing space to artists as well as a platform for discussion. The colony in Miskeen Gali(street) aims to become a centre point for art and art related activities. With equipped studios and housing facilities for visiting artists, it aims to create a whole new dimension and an environment conducive for the growth of art and artists.

Learning through play
Kindergarten, Nursery, Neighbourhood park. Location: Opposite Bin Qasim park, Clifton Karachi- Pakistan. Area: 45100 sqft / 4190 sqm. Type: Educational.
The project aims to encourage playfulness in learning by exploring children’s interaction with their built surroundings. In a playground or during playtime is when a child’s imagination is most active. The aim is to stimulate their imagination and growth through architecture, which embodies the same playfulness/ stimulus as that of a play-field or a play place. The Pre-School houses nurseries and a kindergarten. Subsequently my architecture responds to a developing child’s need and scale. Using Architectural and interactive elements such as the cone and the sundial offers a conducive engaging learning environment for a developing mind.

The conical shaped music room pierces through the Art room above it, allowing children to peak into it. On the outside the cone serves as a fulcrum of all activities such as rope climbing and soft pit areas for the kindergarten. The sundial denotes activities with time. The changing patterns of the shadow fall at a certain play area indicating the activity period. Sensorial activities such as sound, textures and the merrygo-round that pumps out water is a great learning experience for the nursery children.

MA 01 / Revitalizing Nyn채shamn Urban Regeneration at the Harbour Front
Urban Strategy: Relocating railway museum, reorganising the harbour facilities. Project in Focus: Exploring the fusion of a Micro brewery, Hop garden and traditional fish smokery (Rökeri). Location: Nynäshamn, Sweden. In collaboration with the Nynäshamn Kommun. Supervisor: Walter Unterrainer. Nynäshamn, which lies about 60 km south of Stockholm, is well known for being one of the places on the Swedish mainland from where ferries to the island Gotland depart. This is a hugely popular destination for Swedes of all ages in the summer months. The Polferries terminal also offer regular routes to Gotland, Latvia & Poland. Several cruise ships on tours in the Baltic Sea also stay in the harbour, because they are too large to go into Stockholm. A harbour party is hosted each summer, as well as local craft fairs. During these events a steam train often runs routes to and from Stockholm. During the summer months, the harbour is packed with boats of all sizes, and bustles with both visitors and locals. The Harbour also provides for great Fish Smokery, restaurants and limited stores of necessities
To provide a common ground for an exchange of city (culture) with the harbour (leisure).
Lack of centralized recreational and cultural facilities.
An approach to MultiCultural facilities.
A sense of belonging. A single Organism and highly functional quality.

Nynäshamn has great potential in what can become into a bustling town. It has its own micro brewery which is unfortunately not open to public. Many cultures exist in clusters and it may only just need to synthesize to revitalise.

KFJ- Kiran Fine Jewellery. Karachi-Pakistan www.kiranfinejewellery.com Project Architect: Mariyam Iftikar, Ali Reza Dossal. Area: 521 sqft , 48 sqm. Type: Concept jewllery Store, Publishing Office. Task: Design, execution and construction. KFJ is a concept jewellery store and an office space for a jewellery designer and an entrepreneur credited for her versatility and creativity. Among the empowered woman of Pakistan, Kiran (Client) strongly believes that her jewellery design aesthetic is often a manifestation and indeed an extension of her emotions. Thus the work space becomes an equally conducive place for creativity and display. The layout stretches across a long rectangular shop with a relatively higher ceiling. It accommodates displays at the beginning, meeting room and an office studio. Choice of material and colour was an essential yet exciting phase of the process. In order to promote and reflect the clients intuition and personality, the palette was kept simple yet decadent.

Extension Design
Location: Karachi Pakistan. Area: 750 sqft , 70sqm. Type: Extension - Retrofit. Task: Design/ detail, execution and construction. An annex has been retrofitted to accommodate a living space for two and a home office/ lounge. The outer wall wrapping before the front of the annex screens away views from the outside, and forms an enclosed outdoor sitting that opens up to the main house. Warm and cool colours are used carefully to articulate the enclosure making it a vibrant place. An antique door is placed at the threshold to pronounce entry to the home. The design is an attempt to amalgamate the old box with a new skin.

Towards My-Kolachi
Exhibition: Indus Valley School Alumni Exhibit 2011
Towards “MY- Kolachi” is a creative urban sketch of what perhaps can be the happy story of New Karachi. The work draws parallels between the present and the conscience in a an architectural context.
The print mounted on a corner situation wood frame.
The single frame; multiple exposure, nonmanipulated, was a result to the malfunctioning of my old Nikon-F SLR Camera. 4 different shots inadvertently appear on a single negative to reveal the prominent “Mai Kolachi Road(Lady Kolachi)”. It was named after a fisherwoman, who headed a small village across
the sea, soon to become the then city port for the subcontinent. The work showcases a narrative for the local Karachiite through the eyes of the daily traveller marking the epoch of development from Kolachi to New Karachi.
The See Saw
Publication: Indus Valley School Alumni Exhibit 2013 Magazine illustration/ editorial, UMAN issue #1 (SE). http://issuu.com/umanmag/docs/uman_no1
“The See saw”, was part of the 5th Indus valley School of Art and Architecture Alumni exhibition 2013 in Karachi, Pakistan. Later then published in the 1st Umeå School of Architecture magazine issue. Medium: Pen and ink, marker. 40 cm x 75 cm
The eye is the mere representation of the puzzled yet chaotic world. As a foreigner , I began to draw the reflection of the very first contact I had with sweden juxtaposed to my known Pakistani culture. Sketched in pen and ink , the eye holds the narrative of a universal sense of belonging -the eye as a unifying element, where as the people make up for the different and scattered jigsaw pieces.
Lets Post-it (Installation) Publication: Magazine Entry/ editorial, UMAN issue #2 (SE). http://issuu.com/umanmag/docs/uman_no2_2015
The project was in collaboration with HUMlab’s 2013- Student Summer project ( Dept of Humanities- Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden). Location: HUMlab X, Umeå Arts Campus. Type: Interactive installation. Supervisor: Carl-Erik Engqvist ,Artistic leader HUMlab. Vårsagod http://www.tumblr.com/blog/letspostitumea The project progress and process was available for public to follow on “tumblr”.
The project is a site specific exercise that explores the possibility of transforming a space into one big interactive Pin up. Using only post it’s the project breaks the 2D surface to explore the architectural quality of a space. Using anamorphic illusion, each post-it is part of a pixel to form a giant image in space. Viewed form only a particular angle it engages the viewer to identify the image and interact with the installation and leave their impressions on. You were welcome to leave an impression; leave a note or a doodle- Speak your heart out on these creative confetti in space.
