DMZ
The Korean Demilitarized Zone is a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula that serves as a buffer zone between North and South Korea which runs along the 38th parallel. The DMZ cuts the Korean Peninsula roughly in half. The north side of DMZ is the Democratic People`s Republic of Korea, also known as North Korea. The DMZ is 250 kilometers (160 miles) long, approximately 4 km (2.5 mi) wide. Though the zone separating both sides is demilitarized, beyond that strip the border is one of the most heavily militarized borders in the world. The Northern Limit Line, or NLL, is the disputed maritime demarcation line between North and South Korea in the Yellow Sea, not agreed in the armistice. The coastline and islands on both sides of the NLL are also heavily militarized
Dora Observatory
Panmunjeom is only 0.5 miles in diameter. Designated as the Joint Security Area (JSA) between the U.N and North Korea, it is outside administrative control of South and North Korea. The U.N and North Korea sides each operate 6 guard posts and 35 security guards reside inside. Since the Axe Murder Incident on 18 August 1976, by North Korean soldiers, security guards are forbidden to cross over to the opposing side`s area.
Dora Observatory is situated in Paju (Gyeonggi-do) and at the northernmost point of the Military Demarcation Line of the Western Front. The Dora Observatory replaced the previous Songaksan Observation Post which is now closed. From the observatory, visitors can overlook North Korea and its various locations including Gaseseong, Songaksan, Kim I1-Sung statue, and Cooperation Farm (Geumamgol). The observatory offers 500 seats, VIP rooms and abundant parking space. It was first opened to the public in January 1987.

Military Armistice Commission (MAC) The Military Armistice Commission IMAC) has held secretary`s meetings, joint duty officer`s meetings and general meetings for observation of the Armistice Agreement since its signing. General meetings have been suspended since a Korean Army General was assigned as the Chief Representative of the Unite Nation Command on 25 March 1998. Instead of the general meeting, Army General`s Meetings have been held since then. Informal contacts have been held between the United Nations Command and the North Korean Panmunjeom mission since May 1994. Joint duty officer meetings can be called by either side.

3rd Infiltration Tunnel Only 27 miles from Seoul (less than an hour`s drive), the third tunnel was discovered in October 1978. Almost identical in structure to Tunnel 2, the a mile-long tunnel is 6 feet high and 7 feet wide. It penetrates 0.3 miles south of the Military Demarcation Line at a point 2.5 miles south of the panmunjeom, running through bedrock at a depth of about 240 feet below ground. Capable of moving a full division (plus their weapons) per hour, it was evidently designed for a surprise attack on Seoul. This tunnel is only 1.2 mile from a key outpost defending the Munsan corridor leading to Seoul.

Introduction Cheorwon second tunnel is twice as wide as the first tunnel, the second tunnel was discovered in March 1975 in the Central Sector of the DMZ, about 13 kilometers north of Cheorwon. Measuring two meters high and 2.1-2.2 meters wide, the arch-shaped tunnel is large enough to move heavy weapons as tanks, field artillery, and armored personnel carriers. More than 30,000 troops could move, three to four abreast (a division in strength), per hour. Bored through 3.5 kilometers of bedrock at a depth of 50-160 meters below ground, the 2nd tunnel extends 1.1 kilometers south of the Military Demarcation Line to a point 101 kilometers from Seoul. A spacious troop assembly area was carved out inside the tunnel, which has three exits. Today, the second tunnel is developed as a security tourist site and now the 2nd Tunnel is under the control of the Cheorwon-gun Office. Every year hundreds of thousands of people visit this unique tourist destination.

During the Korean War the region changed hands several times during the UN invasion of North Korea and the Chinese invasion of South Korea, by 1951 the frontlines had stabilized, cutting across Cheorwon County and the area became part of the Iron Triangle battlefield. The Battle of White Horse took place north of Cheorwon town from 6–15 October 1952 and the Battle of Triangle Hill took place north of Gimhwa-eup from 14 October 25 November 1952. Following the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement, the Korean Demilitarized Zone cut Cheorwon County in two, creating Cheorwon County in South Korea and Chorwon County in North Korea. Weoljeong-ri Station is a historical building in the DMZ remains at Cheorwon. This tourist attraction, which can only be visited on escorted security tours of the DMZ, is an abandoned train station on the northernmost end of the Gyeongwon Line. Near the station was a small train yard where rail stock was stored or shunted before leaving for Wonsan, now in North Korea. Behind the station building, there remains the wreck of a train bombed during the Korean War, and the train’s Locomotive, No. 4001. The train was used by the North Korean army, and was bombed by U.N. forces. "The windows of the train car are twisted toward the sky and the frame and the body of the train are crooked and rusty."
From Cheorwon Peace Observatory, tourists can view the North Korean Zone

Gwangmyeong Cave, which opened in 1912, was the only metal mine in the metropolitan area of Seoul that had gold, silver, copper, and zinc. The abandoned mine, which had been used for storage of salted shrimp after it was shut down in 1972, was transformed into the country’s best cave theme park in 2015. There are a variety of things to enjoy such as Wind Road, which is full of LED-decorated flowers, an aquarium managed with the cave’s underground water, a cave art center where 350 people can sit and enjoy performances, a wine cave where you can taste local wine, Golden Road, where visitors can make a wish by hanging a golden plaque, and a lot more.
