Hello Community Members, November is already here…. Seems like we just went into summer after the Monsoon season and now temperatures are falling, blue skies, brisk air, shorter days, earlier nights and beautiful change of seasonal foliage!

We kept you busy in October and we are going to keep up the momentum; and to say the least, we left October with a “Bang” having Hunter Hayes end the month with a great concert.
Thanksgiving is right around the corner, so be on the lookout for MWR’s Holiday Meal Deal Take Home specials… everything you need for a great Thanksgiving Dinner, but without all the fuss and mess! If that is still too much work, then join the Warrior’s Catering and Conference Center for a great Thanksgiving Dinner! So, first I want to congratulation the JSA and Camp Bonifas Team on the opening of their new “Fitness Center!” First Class for a true group of Heroes… We at MWR thank you for your service at the DMZ and hope the new Fitness Center meets your expectations… by the way, be sure to take the next DMZ Tour 11 & 25 November! We have another great trip planned for you- it’s a weekend trip to Taiwan from 23-26 November… if your cold here, then take the opportunity to warm up there!! For you Golfers, we have the Veteran’s Day Golf Scramble planned for 11 November at the Casey Golf Course. There is really too much for me to list in my little article… but peruse the ITZ and you will find so much more to keep you occupied, busy, entertained and well-travelled! One last thing I will tell you, is to ‘mark’ your calendar for December’s Christmas Tree Lighting at Camp Casey on 8 December, beginning at 1800hrs. You don’t want to miss this celebration, we have everything from the arrival of Santa, Christmas Chorus, and warm drinks to munchies for the belly! I wish you an awesome November and take advantage of everything Area 1 Family and MWR has to offer you! See you out and about!

Gyeongbokgung Palace was the first royal palace built by the Joseon Dynasty, three years after the Joseon Dynasty was founded. Built in 1395, Gyeongbokgung Palace was located at the heart of newly appointed capital of Seoul (then known as Hanyang) and represented the sovereignty of the Joseon Dynasty. The largest of the Five Grand Palaces (the others being Gyeonghuigung Palace, Deoksugung Palace, Changgyeonggung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace), Gyeongbokgung served as the main palace of the Joseon Dynasty. An effort by the Korean government has been ongoing since 1990 to rebuild and restore the buildings that were destroyed during the Japanese occupation. This 40-year restoration project aims to fully restore Gyeongbokgung Palace to its original form in the next twenty years. The Area I, Leisure Travel Services will be taking a trip to Yeosu which is a coastal city in South Jeolla province, South Korea. Yeosu is one of the country's most picturesque port cities especially at night. Famous for its seafood, beaches, flowers and marinas, it is an international ocean resort and tourist destination as well as being selected as a host city for the 2012 World Expo in Yeosu Harbor. The city of Yeosu consists of the Yeosu peninsula as well as 317 islands (49 inhabited, 268 uninhabited) with population of 300,000. Yeosu is a city of history and loyalty where the headquarters of South Jeolla Province Navy Base was located, and the Great Admiral Yi Sun Shin invented the Geobukseon or "a turtle ship" to save the country while serving as the Navy Commander when Japan invaded Korea in 16th century. Lying about midway along the southern coast of South Korea, Yeosu has cool summers and mild winters thanks to the sea wind and warm current. Its blessed ocean climate also brings Yeosu relatively longer springs and autumns than other regions. Yeosu is developing like most of Korea, but retains a small-town charm that is vanishing from the country.
