Employee Wellness and Civilian Fitness Program Did you know, as a DoD civilian employee, you could participate in a fitness program designed to fit into your work schedule? Ask me how you could participate in this program or just for more details. Corporate Wellness fact: Studies show that individuals who engage in physical activity are more productive at their workplace and miss less work than those that do not workout on a regular basis. Giving an employee that additional time in the middle of the day is to act as an energy boost and give them a shot of euphoria and make them just as productive in the end part of the day as in the beginning.

CAMP CASEY
The War Memorial of Korea, located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, exhibits and preserve materials related to the Korean War and serves as a national moral educational venue. It was established to commemorate the noble sacrifice of patriotic martyrs by the War Memorial Service Korea Society on June 10, 1994. The museum houses approximately 33,000 artifacts with about 10,000 on display at an indoor and outside exhibition halls. There are six separate indoor halls, including Expeditionary Forces Room, Patriotic Memorial Room, War History Room, 6·25 Korean War Room, Development Hall and Large Machinery Room. The outdoor exhibition hall showcases large-sized weapons. Visitors of all ages from children to adults can also participate in 20 various educational programs and diverse cultural events such as military music and honor guard events, drawing contest, cultural event and more. The character of War Memorial of Korea is ‘Mudori’ featuring a helmet symbolizing the protection of the nation and a bay leaf meaning peace.
ITAEWON SHOPPING This area is located conveniently outside Gate 12 (by the gas station) and across the street. Itaewon Street is the most exotic place in Seoul to spend a day of shopping, dining, and hanging out. Itaewon holds a long history in its making and is the first place most tourists want to visit in Korea. After the U.S. set up a military base in Korea during the 1970s, many foreigners stationed at the base settled near the Itaewon area, naturally developing the region into a shopping district catering to foreigners. Later, the existence of Itaewon became known worldwide after the widely publicized 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In 1997, Itaewon was finally designated as an official tourist zone. Please bring Korean Won for souvenir and lunch or snacks.

CAMP CASEY
Army Emergency Relief (AER), 77 Years of Giving by Gwendolyn McCarthy
Each year, Soldiers are appointed by their Leaders to coordinate, execute and support the Annual AER Campaign at Military Installations worldwide. The question that is often asked is, why do Soldiers need to conduct an annual Campaign? The primary reason is Awareness. Despite 77 years of supporting Soldiers, not many Soldiers are aware of what AER does, who or how does a Soldier or Family member qualify for AER assistance. To understand who qualifies for assistance, it is important to know what an emergency is and what emergencies AER can assist with. The Secondary reason is Fund-raising. An old expression states “Every day you take a bucket to the well, one day the bottom will fall out. So it is with money. If every day you give or spend without placing funds to replenish what you are taking out, then one day you will realize there is no money left. Your resource has dried up. The answer connects awareness and giving. A Soldier who is aware that AER is a private Organization that exist solely to provide emergency assistance to Soldiers (Active/Retired) and their Family members (recognized dependents DEERS/ with Military ID card). That Active Duty Soldier or Retiree is more likely to donate than someone who has no idea why he or she is being asked to donate. In Calendar Year 2018, one hundred and eleven (111) Soldiers, received emergency assistance in the amount of one hundred fifty-one thousand, two hundred, thirty five dollars and ninety four cents ($151,235.94) in assistance, at our local AER Section-USAG Casey. Were these the only Soldiers who came to AER for emergency assistance? NO. There were Soldiers whose challenge did not meet the areas that AER can cover for an emergency. Or what they considered an emergency was not an emergency. When this happens an exception to policy is sent to AERHQ, OR if the Soldier allows us (AER Officers) to
38
USAG Yongsan-Casey Family and MWR
help, we are able to work with them to resolve the challenges they may be having. How can I know AER can help me: We strongly suggest you become knowledgeable about AER by attending AER Unit Training, talking with your AER Unit Key Representative or your Section AER Officer. You can also gain information by going to https://aerhq.org What goes around, comes around (Soldier’s name has been changed to protect the privacy of the Soldier) PV2 Smith stood in formation, April 2017, as his First Sergeant spoke about AER and the importance of giving. He was new to the Military and stated he had never heard of AER. At the end of formation he went to his Unit Key Representative and signed an AER donation form for an allotment of $25.00 to be taken over 12 months, from his pay. Six weeks PV2 Smith was sent to the local AER Section because of No Pay Due. Someone had made a mistake with his pay and while Finance worked on resolving same, PV2 Smith had his bills to pay. He was offered Advance pay, but after speaking with his squad Leader and First Sergeant he came to AER. “I never thought when I donated to AER that I would be asking AER for help”, PV2 Smith told me: “I donated to AER so I could help other Soldiers, now I am the one who needs help”. CAMP CASEY
You never know when an emergency will happen but when it does AER is there to help. How Can I Help During The Campaign? There are many ways to help: individual donation, coordinating a Unit bake sale, a Unit Bowling night or discussing with your Leadership, Unit Key Representative and Peers other ways of helping during the Campaign.
The 2019 Soldiers Campaign starts 01 March and ends 15 May. Call (cell) 05033-30-3107 or (DSN) 730-3107 for: a. More information on AER trainings b. How you can become a Unit Key Representative or c. How you can donate. More information can also be found online at https://aerhq.org. AER relies on your financial support to ensure we can help you or others in their time of need. Whether it's Corporate Giving or Individual Donations, you can help by making a difference.
