Did you know, as a DoD civilian employee, you could participate in a fitness program designed to fit into your work schedule? Ask me how you could participate in this program or just for more details. Corporate Wellness fact: Studies show that individuals who engage in physical activity are more productive at their workplace and miss less work than those that do not workout on a regular basis. Giving an employee that additional time in the middle of the day is to act as an energy boost and give them a shot of euphoria and make them just as productive in the end part of the day as in the beginning.

Taekwondo is an ancient Korean martial art. But the sport is not just about kicking and punching. Taekwondo offers several advantages to anyone considering taking up a sport or hobby. Enhance self-esteem by heightening your physical and mental powers. Build confidence by encouraging you to succeed and to take control of your life. Develop discipline by thoroughly training your body and mind in the tenets and techniques of Taekwondo.

Andong Hahoe Folk Village UNESCO World Heritage
SUNDAY, 1 SEPTEMBER
Admission & Transportation Fee: $40.00 Introduction Hahoe Village is home to descendants of the Ryu clan of Pungsan and is well-known for its traditional houses. Birthplace of renowned scholars of the Joseon Period such as Gyeomam Ryu Un-ryong and Seoae Ryu Seong-ryong, the village became even more famous after Queen Elizabeth of England visited on April 21, 1999. Hahoe Village (translating to “Village Enveloped by Water”) gets its name from Nakdong River, which flows around the town’s perimeter. The village is located at the foothills of Hwasan Mountain, an offshoot of Taebaek Mountain that rises up to the east. The center of the village is populated by large tile-roofed houses belonging to the Ryu clan, adding their own unique charm to the surrounding thatched roofs. Hahoe Village boasts exquisite scenic sights: the elegant Nakdong River flowing around the village, the magnificent Buyongdae Cliff, endlessly unfolding sandy beaches, and lush, ancient pine trees. Visitors can take the boat to Buyongdae Cliff for a panoramic view of the village. In addition to breathtaking scenery, Hahoe Village offers delectable local delicacies. Try the Andong Soju (distilled alcoholic beverage), Heotjesabap (a type of Bibimbap eaten by the nobles), Andong Gangodeungeo (salted mackerel), and Andong Guksu (a kind of noodle dish). Nearby attractions include Bongjeongsa Temple (built during the Silla Period), Gosan Seowon (Confucian Academy), Gwiraejeong, Gyemyeongsan Mountain Recreational Forest, Hakgasan Mountain Recreational Forest, and Waryongsan Mountain. Hahoe Village, along with Yangdong Village in Gyeongju, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List under the category of “Historic Villages in Korea” on July 31, 2010. Andong Mask Dance Festival is held every autumn. Available Facilities Seunggojae (Traditional Hahoetal Mask Specialty Store), Buyongsanghoe (Hahoetal Mask shop), restaurants, hanok stay. Only 40 slots available for trip and bring Korean won for food and souvenir shopping.

WAR MEMORIAL PARK The War Memorial of Korea, located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, exhibits and preserve materials related to the Korean War and serves as a national moral educational venue. It was established to commemorate the noble sacrifice of patriotic martyrs by the War Memorial Service Korea Society on June 10, 1994. The museum houses approximately 33,000 artifacts with about 10,000 on display at an indoor and outside exhibition halls. There are six separate indoor halls, including Expeditionary Forces Room, Patriotic Memorial Room, War History Room, 6·25 Korean War Room, Development Hall and Large Machinery Room. The outdoor exhibition hall showcases large-sized weapons. Visitors of all ages from children to adults can also participate in 20 various educational programs and diverse cultural events such as military music and honor guard events, drawing contest, cultural event and more. The character of War Memorial of Korea is ‘Mudori’ featuring a helmet symbolizing the protection of the nation and a bay leaf meaning peace.
ITAEWON SHOPPING This area is located conveniently outside Gate 12 (by the gas station) and across the street. Itaewon Street is the most exotic place in Seoul to spend a day of shopping, dining, and hanging out. Itaewon holds a long history in its making and is the first place most tourists want to visit in Korea. After the U.S. set up a military base in Korea during the 1970s, many foreigners stationed at the base settled near the Itaewon area, naturally developing the region into a shopping district catering to foreigners. Later, the existence of Itaewon became known worldwide after the widely publicized 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In 1997, Itaewon was finally designated as an official tourist zone. Please bring Korean Won for souvenir and lunch or snacks.

The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) The Korean Demilitarized Zone is a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula that serves as a buffer zone between North and South Korea which runs along the 38th parallel. The DMZ cuts the Korean Peninsula roughly in half. The north side of DMZ is the Democratic People`s Republic of Korea, also known as North Korea. Dora Observatory is situated in Paju (Gyeonggi-do) and at the northernmost point of the Military Demarcation Line of the Western Front. The Dora Observatory replaced the previous Songaksan Observation Post which is now closed. From the observatory, visitors can overlook North Korea and its various locations including Gaseseong, Songaksan, Kim I1-Sung statue, and Cooperation Farm (Geumamgol). The observatory offers 500 seats, VIP rooms and abundant parking space. It was first opened to the public in January 1987. 3rd Infiltration Tunnel Only 27 miles from Seoul (less than an hour`s drive), the third tunnel was discovered in October 1978. Almost identical in structure to Tunnel 2, it’s a mile-long tunnel that is 6 feet high and 7 feet wide. It penetrates 0.3 miles south of the Military Demarcation Line at a point 2.5 miles south of the Panmunjeom, running through bedrock at a depth of about 240 feet below ground. Capable of moving a full division (plus their weapons) per hour, it was evidently designed for a surprise attack on Seoul. This tunnel is only 1.2 mile from a key outpost defending the Munsan corridor leading to Seoul. Paju Outlet Mall What a fabulous modern shopping area, very relaxing and really worth a visit truly a shopping paradise not only for locals but also for tourists. So many international brands are available as in many shopping malls. Bus Schedule Yongsan Outdoor Recreation Center: 0650 Hovey CAC: 0815 Casey CAC: 0830 Paju Outlet: 1230 Return at site: 1500

The name Gwangmyeong, which was given to this city located just southwest of Seoul, means “prosperous life.” Its natural environment, particularly its incredible geological features, attracts Seoulites to the city both for short day trips and also extended trips to escape the midsummer heat. Gwangmyeong Cave, one of the Korean Top 100 tour sites selected by the Korean government, has around 20 things to see. These include lights, tunnels, the concert hall, golden waterfall, golden palace, underground lake, cave historic hall, and a wine cave. Gold and silver were dug here and it has many things to experience such as a golden plaque wishing health and happiness, digging gold, mining minerals, and riding elephant cars, etc. Gwangmeyong Cave has changed industrial heritage values and cultural values of the golden mines into the space of culture and tourism, experience and healing. It's the Korean representative cave tour site where 1,500,000 people visit per year. Bus Schedule Yongsan ODR: 0700 Camp Hovey CAC: 0815 Camp Casey CAC: 0830
