USAG Yongsan-Casey Community Members, So did you miss me during my annual leave…? Well, you should have noticed since I didn’t write my article for last month’s magazine! I went home to Tennessee and ‘donned’ my normal attire of jeans, Lucchese Boots, wrangler shirt, buckle and belt and straw Stetson, (bet you never figured as much, did ya?). So here we are in the month of October… can you believe it????!!!! We have so “MUCH” stuff for you to do and be involved in… trust me, it ain’t going to be dull around Yongsan-Casey. To start off with… October is one of my favorite times of the year… “Halloween!” We got cool stuff in store for you: - Halloween Party at the Gateway Club - Halloween Trunk or Treat at the Gateway Club Parking Lot - Patio BBQ and Potluck Party at Hovey CAC - Big Golf Sale at the Casey Golf Course, up to 70% on some items - 5K Run “Know the Sign” (Domestic Violence Awareness with ACS) - 5 on 5 Soccer Tourney (Fitness Center) - 3 on 3 Basketball Tourney (Fitness Center) - Indoor Fitness Competition at the HHCP Anyways… this is only a quick glimpse of what we have going on for October; by the way – don’t forget to play the “Gridiron Challenge” at Gateway, Iron Triangle and Warrior’s Clubs for bragging rights to having the best forecast of winning football teams… you might even win a prize!! LASTLY - USAG Casey 2018-2019 Influenza Campaign – check page 42 for details. So I wish all of you a great October and Halloween Celebrations- and I’ll see you ‘Out and About!’ Jammie G. Hawkins

Opened in 1984, Seoul Grand Park consists of Seoul Zoo, the largest one in Korea, caring for 3700 animals from 330 species, Seoul Land, an amusement park, Rose Garden and Children’s Zoo in Theme Garden, and a Campsite. Seoul Grand Park is set among forested hillsides and is a perfect place for relaxation as a comprehensive theme park. Since animals and plants of Changgyeong Park, opened in 1909, moved to Seoul Zoo, we have pursued happiness among animals, people and nature under the catchphrase of three Donghang that animals are happy, Donghang that animals behaviors are free, and Donghang that people and animals live together. We provide diverse activities for families and friends such as educational programs, feeding activities, African festivals, and the largest rose garden festival in Korea. We pursue citizens’ happiness through distinctive festivals and cultural activities. Seoul Grand Park will continue its effort to help animals and people be happy, and to achieve the goal of being a world-class cultural park.

GET THE FLU SHOT TODAY AND KEEP THE VIRUSES AWAY
CAMP CASEY
Beginning in October Camp Casey Clinic and Combined Troop Aid Stations (CTAS) will be offering flu shots free of charge to all Tricare beneficiaries & DOD Civilians. All Garrison units will coordinate with Camp Casey Clinic in order to schedule mass vaccination. Mass vaccination of units will occur at either Hanson Field House or Carey Gym. Community Flu events will take place 26 OCT 2018 1000-1400, 1-2 Nov 2018 0900-1400, and 8 Nov 2018 1200-1630. The time that you all have been anticipating and/or dreading has finally arrived. It is time to get your flu shots. Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. According to the Centers for Disease Control, experts think that this virus is spread from droplets made when individuals with the flu cough, sneeze, or talk. Yes! Talking to someone with the flu places you at a high risk for contracting the virus. It can also be contracted by touching a surface that the flu virus is on and touching your own eyes, mouth, or nose. Most people are contagious beginning one day before feeling sick and up to 5-7 days after developing symptoms. There are even a select few who become infected with the virus and never display symptoms, but are just as contagious as anyone else who is actively experiencing symptoms. Just because the flu was contracted from someone who has no symptoms does not mean that you will have the same outcome. According to the Centers for Disease control, between 4,000 and 50,000 people die each year from the flu. It is also estimated that the flu virus has caused between 9.2 million and 35.6 million U.S. illnesses each year since 2010. The most effective way to prevent the flu is to get the flu shot. This vaccine is recommended for those 6 months and older. Children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions, and people 65 years and older are at the highest risk for complications related to the flu. When healthy people get vaccinated it protects those who are most vulnerable to the illness. It is a popular belief that individuals contract “the flu” from receiving the vaccine, but possible side effects after having any shot are soreness in the arm, redness at the injection site, body aches, fever, cough, runny nose, or sore throat. The symptoms listed are often mistaken for a mild case of the flu but it is actually an immune response to a foreign substance entering the body and will generally last 1-2 days after the shot. In the end, the benefits of getting the flu vaccine outweigh the side effects. Remember “Get the flu shot today and keep the viruses away!” Vaccine information sheets will be available to you when receiving the flu shot, but for additional information on other prevention methods, types of flu vaccines and viruses, and any other concerns, please talk to your healthcare provider or visit the Centers for Disease Control’s flu website at https://cdc.gov/flu.
