Employee Wellness and Civilian Fitness Program Did you know, as a DoD civilian employee, you could participate in a fitness program designed to fit into your work schedule? Ask me how you could participate in this program or just for more details. Corporate Wellness fact: Studies show that individuals who engage in physical activity are more productive at their workplace and miss less work than those that do not workout on a regular basis. Giving an employee that additional time in the middle of the day is to act as an energy boost and give them a shot of euphoria and make them just as productive in the end part of the day as in the beginning.

Best Slow City in Korea Jeonju Hanok Village
CAMP CASEY
Story by PV2. Anthony, Gonzalez
USAG Yongsan-Casey Leisure Travel hosted this special tour and headed from Camp Casey/Hovey to Jeonju Hanok village. It was a long trip which took us 4 hours just to get there but was absolutely worth the long ride. When you are that far off a Military installation it clicks something like a gear in a perfect clock. You are in Korea and you understand that the post you have been living at is the watered down version of all that is Korea. Unlike the rest of the city, Hanok village keeps and cherishes all of its historical charms and traditions. In Jeonju there are over 800 traditional Korean Hanok houses. Set aside in the village is the Hanok Life Experience Hall where tourists can see and enjoy a traditional Korean life. There are tons of stores where you can rent/purchase traditional Korean attire. You see locals walk around and they hold their heads up high and they have a sense of pride when walking around their home. As an American, you get a lot of people who stare at you. People see you because it's not hard to tell that you don't really look the same as everyone else. They may stare at your clothes, they may hug you, and they will definitely try to sell you something. You may struggle with conversation and it may make ordering food a little bit difficult. You must always remember to smile and try your very best to be respectful. When it comes to the matter of getting lost you might think something like, oh no, I won't get lost because you are from somewhere like New York, Denver, or any big city so you know what you are doing but you don't. Unless you can speak and read Korean you have no idea what most of these signs mean. Most of the buildings and streets look the same so you might not even notice you're lost until it's too late. Some tips for not getting lost, these can be helpful. First, have a point of origin, a kind of landmark as your starting place, one that stands out above the rest; typically a large building with some kind of special design. Doing this will help you when looking around so that you can always get to a higher ground and say, oh there's that church. The second tip is don't go alone. If you get lost, having someone else will help so that you both of you can work together to find your way back and plus it’s just nice to explore the village with a friend. Upon the arrival to the village, I want you to take just one moment and pause. This is one of the few places that has kept some historical preservation. I’d recommend it while you are stationed here in Korea. Get out, explore and take advantage of learning the customs and culture of this beautiful area. Here are some things to consider: 1. What is a NEED and what is a WANT? 2. Do I need cable, cell phone and internet or can 1 or 2 fulfil my/our NEED? 3. Does my 6 to 18 years old child/children NEED a cell phone with everything or do they NEED a cell phone for emergencies only? 4. Can I or my Family afford a pet now? 5. Can I or my Family a $400 - $600 vehicle payment now? While you are trying to make a decision, keep in mind one of Benjamin Franklin’s quote: “Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship”. Keep in mind: a. Once you have a decision, stick to your plan b. Create and maintain a written budget c. Evaluate your networth every year. January is suggested as the best time to assess your networth (new year, new beginning). d. The more you put saving off, the more you will be required to save. e. Every decision/action comes with consequence/s. f. Never hesitate to ask for help.
