Spring Ahead Summer is Springing our way. So, I’m going outside, to plant & play! I am encouraged, daily… there is much news, about young people who are, all around the world, sprouting-up… in service to Earth. The forthcoming vegan-generation, is fighting for its future. I applaud each and every “Kid” that is being a …voice… for nonviolent principles. I say, “Yes! You are amazing!” Carry on, get louder, get active… for the “Spirit of universal love!” Me too, I’m right here: with you; acting for… you, the planet, animals, & humanity …as, all vegans are.

Khendall Lester, from Jacksonville Florida, is vegan. He has been advocating for animals, since the age of 6. Now 8 years old, he is Co-President of Animal Hero Kids. Khendall wants to inspire all, to be kind and compassionate, to the voiceless ones. Since he was a toddler, he’s attended protests, in several different states, against: hunting; dog racing; the exploitation of orcas (at the Miami Seaquarium; and, SeaWorld); and, the abuse of circusanimals (at Ringling Brothers; and, UniverSoul, circuses). When asked if he’d ever been to the circus, he replied, “Yeah, but not inside. I only stay outside and protest.” Khendall, in addition to recycling trash, collects & discards publictrash (he, also, reminds that: much land pollution, eventually, gets in the ocean, where it can harm marine life). “I believe in being kind to all animals. Infants’ nutritional needs are best met by their mothers’ breast milk, which helps to build immunity. When breastfeeding is not possible, commercial soy formulas for infants are available (not to be confused with soy milk or other plant milks). For the first half year of life, infants do not need any nourishment other than breast milk or formula. They should continue to receive breast milk or formula at least through their first 12 months. The longer a child consumes breast milk, the better. There is no need for infants to consume cow’s milk. At around 6 months, it’s time to introduce solid foods to your baby’s diet. Introduce ironfortified infant cereal, mixed with a little breast milk or soy formula, since it is the least likely to cause allergies. At 6 to 8 months, you can begin introducing other plant-based foods: Vegetables, including potatoes, green beans, carrots, and peas, are all good choices. They should be thoroughly cooked and mashed. Fruits, such as mashed bananas, avocados, peaches, or applesauce. By 8 months, some babies can eat crackers, bread, and dry cereal and protein-rich foods like well-cooked and mashed tofu or beans.
Children who are raised on healthful vegan diets have a reduced risk for heart disease, cancer, obesity, diabetes, and other conditions. Adolescents raised on a plant-based diet often find they have an easy time maintaining a healthy weight. They also have fewer problems with acne, allergies, and gastrointestinal problems than their peers who eat animal products. American children often have fatty streaks in their arteries before they finish high school. Children who eat a plant-based diet limit foods high in saturated fat and cholesterol, which can contribute to heart disease. When it comes to milk, research shows that dairy products have little or no benefit for bones. A 2005 review published in Pediatrics showed that milk consumption does not improve bone integrity in children. Another study tracked the diets, physical activity, and stress fracture incidences of adolescent girls for seven years, and concluded that dairy products and calcium do not prevent stress fractures in adolescent girls. How You Can Get Started …In Activism Are you ready to be a Vegan-Activist? If you’re wondering, how you can get started, here are some suggestions: 1. Write a letter to the editor about climate change in your local or school newspaper. The more people talk about the issue, the better! 2. Not everyone understands climate change. Learn the facts and talk to your friends and family. If everyone gets the science, we can work together to find solutions. 3. Ask your teacher to read a humane book for the class. 4. Refuse to dissect any animals in school and instead ask them to replace animal dissection with superior, modern alternatives. 5. Let the teacher know about TeachKind, who can provide lesson resources and support. 6. Ask you parents to request healthier (vegan) food options in school. 7. For field trips suggest going to a animal sanctuary instead of a zoo, circus, or aquarium. 8. Learn more about all aspects of veganism so you can talk to other kids about it. 9. Start a club at your school, come up with a name such as, Kindness Rocks. 10. Always be kind and respectful. 11. Make up posters to hang up. 12. Share vegan information. 13. Share your vegan food with the class i.e. bake sale.

Climate Change Is Not The Same As Daily Weather Changes
Depending on where you live, the weather is almost certainly a little different every day. In the summer, one week might be really hot and another week might be cooler and rainy. In the winter, one week might be cold and dry. Next week, though, a big snowstorm might arrive. Climate change is not the same as daily weather changes. Climate change happens slowly over thousands and millions of years. The tilt of the Earth’s axis can affect climate. So can natural occurrences like volcanic eruptions. When a volcano erupts, the ashes from the explosion can block out the Sun’s rays, causing cooler weather for years. Recently, human choices have changed the climate. 1. Like a greenhouse without fans, the Earth is heating up. It has warmed by 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit since the 1880s. This number seems pretty small until you consider that the planet warmed only 7 degrees in the previous 12,000 years. 2. Glaciers and ice sheets in the Arctic and Antarctic are melting quickly. Water from the melting ice falls into the oceans and causes the sea level to rise. 3. Animals, such as polar bears, that live in Arctic regions may become extinct as they lose habitat. 4. Low-lying cities, such as New York, may become permanently flooded. Sea levels could rise by as much as 82 feet if the glaciers all melt. 5. In South America, farmers burn rain forests to create farmland. Burning the forests releases more carbon dioxide into the air, causing more damage to the atmosphere. Since 1990, 163,000 square miles of rain forest have been cut down in Brazil. 6. Over millions of years, the Earth has experienced warm, wet periods, as well as cold Ice Ages. 7. Animals, people and plants must adapt to climate changes. 8. Storms sometimes become more common and severe as the climate changes. 9.
Animals may have to find new homes or migrate.
10. People must change the ways they live and grow food. 11. Eating a vegan diet helps battle climate change.

Pepperoni Pizza INGREDIENTS FOR THE CRUST: 8 oz (250 g) gluten-free flour 1/2 cup (120 ml) water 1 Tbs olive oil 2 tsp aluminum-free baking powder pinch salt
•Prep Time: 20 minutes •Cook Time: 15 minutes •Total Time: 35 minutes •Yield: 2
FOR THE TOPPING: 2 Tbs tomato paste 2 zucchini hot sauce 2 Tbs tamari 2 Tbs balsamic vinegar vegan cheese INSTRUCTIONS PREPARE THE ZUCCHINI “PEPPERONI”: Wash and thinly slice the zucchini. In a baking dish, mix hot sauce with tamari and balsamic vinegar. Add the zucchini and mix, so that they are covered well. Cover and marinate over night in the fridge. Pro-tip: Put the spiced zucchini in the oven and bake at medium heat (320°F/160°C) for 10-15 minutes before storing in the fridge. FOR THE CRUST: Give all ingredients for the dough to a bowl and knead well. You should have a slightly moist but sticky dough. Let it sit for a couple of minutes. Form the pizza crust by spreading the dough. TO MAKE THE PIZZA: Preheat oven to 390°F (200°C). Spread the tomato paste on top of the crust. Add the marinated spicy zucchini slices. Top off with vegan cheese. You can of course use as much as you like. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes.
