SUNGEVITY Case Study
My objective was to design a new office space for Sungevity, a solar energy company in Oakland. Although this project was fictitious, we had to use the existing parameters of the office space. My idea was to take Sungevity’s positive, fun and energizing spirit and instill that throughout the space. I focused on the circulation of foot traffic; designed a floor plan that has a balance of public and private spaces; break-out areas for employees to energize and an inviting aesthetic inspired by the mid-century modern movement.

RECEPTION
Exiting the elevator, you are welcomed into a bright space. The custom-made light fixture over head is reminiscent of the suction tubes that were prevalent in offices in the Mid-20th century. The light fixture is made from recyclable materials, since this is a company grounded in sustainability.
MEET
This space displays a custom divider that is reminiscent of the light fixture in the reception area. This divider and reflective wallcovering allows the natural light to filter throughout the office.
WORK
This is the central workspace hub. No cubicles means easier employee interaction to keep great ideas in gear.
MEETING OF THE MINDS
This meeting room is more private, as it’s completely enclosed. However, there are windows, so others don’t feel completely left out. This space encourages problem solving by working together.
PRESENT This presentation room calls to comfort with a plush sofa wall inspired by Knoll.
RE-ENERGIZE
A fun space to give your brain a break. Enjoy a game with a co-worker or read a book. Do something that requires getting your eyes off the screen.
CASUAL
Another casual space that over-looks the beautiful Jack London Square.
DETAILS: BOOTHS & RAISED DISCS
These plush booths introduces another space to converse with colleagues. The raised discs on the floor are for those with limited vision who use a white cane.
DETAILS: POST IT NOTE WALL
This encourages employees to brainstorm together, all while creating their own art installation.
