The American dream quickly fades as they face a life of want in their adopted home. As a new recruit in a street gang, a teenage Victor embarks on a lucrative new drug- trafficking business in an attempt to help his struggling family. VICTOR is quickly enslaved by drug use, and his parents, Manuel and Lila, desperately search to find a way to help their son. A faith- based rehabilitation program is their last chance to rescue Victor.
God friended ME Miles Finer is an outspoken atheist whose life is turned upside down when he receives a friend request on social media from God and unwittingly becomes an agent of change in the lives and destinies of others around him. After repeated pokes by God, Miles’ curiosity takes over, and he accepts the ultimate friend request and follows the signs to Cara Bloom, an online journalist. The two find themselves investigating God’s friend suggestions and inadvertently helping others in need. Miles is set on getting to the bottom of what he believes is an elaborate hoax, but in the meantime, he’ll play along and -- in the process -- change his life forever.
Greenleaf Oprah Winfrey has a regular role on the show as Mavis, Grace’s aunt in this story of a family that appears to be a loving and caring clan. Beneath the surface, though, exists scandalous secrets and lies. Greed, adultery and sibling rivalry are among the issues that threaten to test the family’s faith and tear the group and church apart. The scandalous happenings are uncovered by Grace, the estranged daughter of church leader Bishop James Greenleaf, when she returns home after a 20-year absence…it’s an entertaining, additive and interesting series telling the ‘truth’ about the ‘church’ business.

When we talk about pain and loss, we cannot leave grief aside. I believe these are triplets that go together and one cannot talk about the three without ‘hitting home.’ I’ve had such a challenge with this column, not only because it’s a delicate area of life, but also because I needed to look at my own personal pain in order for me to present an authentic piece to you beloved #arisemag women. I had to go back to my very own darkest place and soak in all the emotions I felt in that particular period so that you the reader may truly understand and know that you are not alone in your pain. Truth is we all have our share of pain and it’s never an easy experience. Looking back I am in awe of the goodness of God in my life. I never thought I would survive, but praise be to God for the Holy Spirit who is our great comforter (John 14:16). I now understand what David meant in Psalms 91:3-4: ‘He will cover you and completely protect you with His pinions, and under His wings you will find refuge.’ At some point in life we will suffer loss. Loss of a loved one, employment or an end to a relationship. It is never an easy feeling to lose something that has been close and dear to you, something or someone that has made life easier or brought joy to the heart. The pain feels like it will never end; it’s too difficult to bear and seems to be nothing else but darkness all around.
8
It is as if you have been thrown in a dark and gloomiest pit. That is the reason most people feel like dying at that point because they honestly feel there is nothing else to live for. In such a space, we see no hope or any ray of sunshine – but truth is that even at this horrible time the Lord’s hand is still upon us. He promised never to leave nor forsake us and it is through these difficult times that He is closer to us (Psalms 34:18). We feel His presence when we surrender to Him. When we grieve to God, when we cry out to Him as our Daddy like Job did, He feels our pain. The Bible says Jesus wept with Lazarus’ sisters and that is exactly how Jesus feels when we experience loss, and I believe His tears heal us too. God has a way of turning the worst situations to work out for our good if we completely trust and surrender in Him. There is resurrection after death and there is gain after loss when we give God a chance. Be encouraged by the knowledge that when God is at work, no matter what you have lost, no matter the painful situation you have to endure, God can turn it around. Lazarus was certified dead however Jesus came and called him to life. Jesus will make you conquer a situation that has buried and eliminated you.
All that is required is to have Faith and believe in the resurrection power that will help you to come through. You have also been given the power to speak life over your life. Ezekiel in the valley of dry bones - pain, brokenness, loss and fear - was told to prophesy (Ezekiel 37). You may be in a valley of dry bones, everything dry and worn out, It is time to take the position of a prophet and prophesy, do not let the bones discourage and limit you – death and life are in the power of the tongue. You have been given the eyes to see beyond the impossible, eyes of Faith. Your great army is ready to be raised by your voice. God will restore you, God will heal you and He will bring you to a place of rest. Trust to find refuge under the shadow of His wings…He is Grace.

Jerelene’s mission in life is to be a forthright, resounding voice of hope to people from all walks of life, both young and old. “Tragedy, trauma and pain are no respecter of persons nor profile. It is my purpose and passion in life to teach and encourage people to live beyond their struggles and challenges, using my personal life story as a catalyst to inspire” says Jerelene without an inkling of doubt or uncertainty. She speaks with the kind of power and ease that makes my heart skip a beat. I am moved before we get into the detail. I confess to her that her physic does not match the expected picture I had in mind of a woman that suffered great loss…The woman I meet is the colour of happiness and peace; if there’s ever truly been a breath of fresh air personified? She is it! We meet on a hot Wednesday afternoon at my church and we quickly become comfortable with each other, realising the many dreams, aspirations and commitments we have in common - we sing from the same song sheet. She continues to say that her aim is to inspire others, bring healing to their hurts, and ultimately shine a light of hope in every situation. “This is what drives me daily – to see lives transformed in some way through sharing my own victories over my life’s challenges. If I had to express it in a few words I’d say: Jumpstarting every fading heartbeat with Hope” “I want to reach as many people as possible, throughout the world, at the place of their pain, to challenge and inspire them to live beyond the pain. My own life experience has allowed me to be a voice of hope to many who find themselves in this dark place of hopelessness. Ultimately I aim to create a space where people can find reason to keep moving forward. In the physical, my dream is to establish community centres where the broken can come to heal.”

She is also a mother to 15 years old Josiah and a business woman currently running a travel company with a group of friends - because travelling is her passion- and a lighting and electrical supplies entity called ‘Ohana’ a Hawaiian word for family which they learnt while living and running an international business in Florida, America. ‘I came back home to South Africa in haste to save my dying marriage but, unbeknown to me, there were other dots God was connecting behind the scenes. I grew up in a Christian family and knew that God hated divorce. This was my dilemma but as a woman I knew that sometimes we have to fight for ourselves before we can fight for anybody else. I had to choose a route to save myself and so the marriage ended. In 2015, while still mourning my marriage, about 3months into the divorce my daughter Andrea left home to attend a leadership camp just a few kilometres away from home. It was a beautiful day. We were happy and prayed before she left. She was my best friend, my cheerleader and we did everything together. Unbeknown to me, she was not to return home to me as she died in a motor car accident en route from the camp. Andrea was all about family and family is what God established from the beginning of time and something the enemy uses all of his vices to destroy. My business name Ohana lighting and electrical is my way of resounding God’s establishment despite the enemy trying to destroy my own, and of course to also keep Andrea’s memory alive.
We are Warriors and Conquerors “I thought divorce and its aftermath was devastating and difficult but losing my 17years old daughter was the worst. For a while, following the two losses, I could not relate to God. But I now know that even in the time that He seems silent, He still loves us and His goodness persists. I was consumed with pain and suicide seemed like an option. One morning, I think I was in between being asleep and awake, God ministered to me. I saw myself standing in the centre of a crowd…as though we were at the starting line of a big marathon. It was only women forming the crowd: broken women, hurting women, haemorrhaging and weak women. I saw myself link hands with a few women and all women followed and as more and more linked arms, forming a chain, we all became stronger. I wondered what God was saying…but this initialised my foundation I call ‘Angel Warriors’. Angel for the ones we love and lost. Warriors because we fight to continue in the world without the ones we lost, the ones we love. It was only women forming the crowd: broken women, hurting women, haemorrhaging and weak women. I saw myself link hands with a few women and all women followed suite and as more and more linked arms, forming a chain, we all became stronger. I wondered what God was saying…but this initialised my foundation I call ‘Angel Warriors’. Angel for the ones we love and lost. Warriors because we fight to continue in the world without the ones we lost, the ones we love.
There was also a time when I asked God: ‘Why am I being punished?’ But I now know that God never wastes a story and we, as light bearers must carry the torch on the less travelled dark paths and light the path as we overcome and conquer. We must remember that there must always be a sacrifice for good, Glory and miracles to be seen. Just like Abraham was asked to sacrifice his son Isaac in Genesis 22:1-19 and he obliged and God provided a ram at the right time. We too must have willing hearts for God to work in our lives. We must allow Him in our pain and trust Him, let Him write our story…God never lets a story go to waste. The valley of death mentioned by King David in Psalm 23 is a dark dark place which I know very well, I was there. But let’s not fear for He is with us. It is only through God, and only because of God that I made it. I am even at peace with my daughter’s passing…and believe that she fulfilled her purpose and moved on so that mommy can fulfil her purpose. Before I got to this point, I lived life with dark filters but as soon as I let God into my pain, I see and live life in full colour… hence by purple hair. There is nothing or no one that can tip me off this place that Christ has brought me to. Nothing and No one!”
Angel Worriers is a support group I see actively changing lives. We have an international footprint via magazines, newspapers, TV, Radio features and live motivational talks that I deliver under my personal branding ‘Jerelene’. Through sharing my experience, I bring Jesus to the corporate world. What is special is that God heals me through Angel Warriors…I did not expect it. I also see parents and other people stuck in their pain and I try to help them heal because Jesus came to give us life in abundance (John10:10) and I want to enable others to live as Jesus intends.

Kave has one amazing life story and most exciting about it is that it becomes more unbelievable with every achievement. I have personally been in awe of her as a woman, not for her achievements and success but for her bravery to go get it. I first met her at the Freedom Park Museum in Pretoria where she was a speaker and in the audience I spotted Former First Ladies Graça Machel and Zanele Dlamini Mbeki just a few tables from mine. ‘I am sitting amid inspiration’ is what I thought to myself but that was before I heard Kave speak and changed everything I thought inspiration to be – we have been distant friends since. Many will not expect that a girl born in a small town of Bukavu in the DRC two hours from Rwanda and Burundi would take over and shine like this.

education, what were some the challenges? At first it was my sister - She encouraged me to go back to school after the two years of missing school after arriving in South Africa so that I could have a better life for all of us. I started high school at Bechet Secondary school. I spoke no English and understood not a word of Zulu, so you can imagine the internal conversations I was having with myself. There was only one other girl with an immigrant background at the school, so it was a bit tough to break in. However, over time the girls opened up to me and I opened up to them and I had another amazing two years completing my secondary school. WHO IS GOD TO YOU AND WHAT KIND OF REALTIONSHIP DO YOU HAVE WITH HIM? Personally God means something to me that I’ve never found in any book or church. I am not religious but I respect and agree with people’s religions so much some think I follow their particular faith. I believe God is the truth and that He is in our heart that makes us good and purposeful. God is present in everything and encompasses all. God is the highest source of all there is and is within us and in every breath. He is in sharing a smile with a stranger, all acts of kindness, following our purpose, meditating, praying, observing the sunrise with purity in our thoughts…these are acts that connect us with goodness. Above all, God is love, which enables me to radiate the best energy. In love we never intend to cause harm, hate or be violent. When we’re tuned into the frequency of love we connect with the strongest energy and goodness. I speak to God and my ancestors at every chance I feel called to, the Spirit doesn’t have a set time and place for praise and gratitude, hence I can say a prayer through a Facebook post or collapse at my alter in my room. Healing from pain and hurt makes for healthy relationships and peaceful living. Within most of us is a suffering child carrying hurt from childhood experiences such as rejection, abandonment and abuse with the power to leave us feeling shame. To protect and defend ourselves from this childhood pain and shame which also sometimes reappears as new in adulthood, we often get involved in activities we think and hope will kill the emotional turmoil and noise made by the child in us. We fail to realise that by ignoring the pain and the unresolved issues, we merely suppress the imminent guaranteed burst.
All of our experiences are stored in our
subconscious, which is why when a similar incident occurs we find past pain reappearing and manifesting in fear, depression, bitterness, hatred and anger that does not equate
