look to the sky with my hands in the air and a party in my heart! Grateful that your eyes once again meet the text, pictures and inspiration on these pages of Arise mag. With every phone call, every meeting, interview, collaboration and our very first photo-shoot, much was (with effort and intention) conquered and here we are presenting to you a fresh new Arise Magazine. We are excited and especially blessed for we are growing in many ways… we hope you enjoy!! Magauta Mphahlele’s story and journey is not for the traditionalist and I trust we will learn a lot from her success and the peace she embodies…we hope you are inspired!! disguise that has been through it all and remains standing and growing her Spirituality, Faith, women and business empire - how I wish you could know her personally…we hope you are strengthened!! I am especially honoured to be able to bring Puseletso to Arise magazine community…a woman that inspired the very first steps of my journey to this moment. I have not met anyone that moved from graduating at college to running their own business and within a few years receiving recognition awards from reputable institutions… and this was the beginning of her important influence in my life and career… we hope ‘your brave’ comes alive!! Philippians 4:13, John 14:27 and 2 Timothy 1:7 are amazing teachings and promises to plug into and claim. These verses drive me and when I feel like I have no fuel to continue, I know it is a lie because Daddy, God, said I can do all things through Him, that He strengthens me, and, so I get up and exert effort to get-on-withit because He also said that He has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power, love, and self-control. So when faced with trouble and challenges and feel not strong enough…just remember your composition – what you are made of and who made you and know that you do not give in, give up, disconnect or disappear…how else is Daddy’s plans going to manifest? If they do not manifest then what reason would we have to Glory his name? How will we become fishers of men if His name is not Glorified and there is no Testimony? Let’s go ladies!! Our Daddy is with us. Be faithful and Trust. See you on the 7th April at the very first Christian Women in Business Conference. From Daddy to YOU with love!!

ot so long ago, Adrienne posted on social media: "When you hold hands & pray before making a wish... We prayed & wished to be together for years to come… the next morning our prayer was answered ... 2 more seasons. God knows our hearts. Forever grateful!! #TheReal #Friendship." In Tamera’s words “…everybody goes through a roller coaster ride in their Faith-walk and I wouldn’t be honest if I said it has not been the same for me…it was after ‘Sister-Sister’ when I was most challenged. I think it’s because things were easy before then…that’s when you ask yourself if you truly are serving God for the right reasons. My faith struggled because I was in the valley at the time, it is at such times that you truly know who you are and also get to know who He is.” She also stole the show when she sang ‘Jesus Loves me’ during one of the shows. Loni Love has confessed to reading the whole Bible, from beginning to end!! Adrienne is a devout Christian girl who makes no secret of her Faith commitment, plus she is married to gospel singer Israel Houghton and they are not shy to inform us that they stayed celibate until their wedding night. Her famous on air words we’ll never forget are something like "Everywhere I go, I know who I am. I love God and I am loved by God! Under construction, Jesus is still working on me.” Fashionista Jeannie Mai said that when she was 26 she decided to get to know God better. “I wanted to go where nobody knew me, where I could hear what life was supposed to be like," Mai wrote. "I heard all Jesus did was serve and I wanted to feel what that was like. So I went on my first mission trip to Maputo, to be with children affected by HIV and AIDS." "I love that all five of us are believers. Before we walk out on that set every single day, we prayed. I don't know what anybody else's rituals are on other shows… we pray that God uses us individually to touch somebody.”

Her name is Puseletso Modimogale and it seems she’s winning in all aspects of life…if such is possible. There are many pictures of her and her loving husband on social media…you get the same feeling of his adoration of Puse when you are in their company. Their daughters are beautiful well-mannered jewellery teenpreneurs who have been featured on different media platforms. Her home, from a young age, was beautiful; the kind of enchanted beauty that makes you feel like an under-achiever. Her 18year old Spa business located in her homestead offers therapeutic treatments comparable to none. With all these beautiful achievements you’d expect to feel intimidated by her but the opposite is true.

This was first evident when she launched the Woman Emancipate Yourself Foundation over a decade ago and currently as coach and mentor to businesses and individuals. It is wise to interrogate and invest in such activities towards identifying life’s purpose. When purpose and/or calling are known, Ministry becomes easier to recognise and action - aligning it to work and business follows with more clarity. Puseletso says her journey to identifying her Ministry has not been easy. “I grew up in a family that loved business which exposed me to business management at a young age. Discovering my passion for developing and helping others as my Ministry came at a cost. I struggled in my business and I could not grow it to the level that it deserved. Knowing your strengths and areas for development is key to building successful businesses. The gift of aligning work to Ministry is witnessing God’s presence in what you do. I believe that God is life to all of us. He shows his face in many occasions in my life; in joyful and challenging moments. When I had miscarriages He was there strengthening me. When I won a national business competition He was there showing off. When I lost my mom He was still as amazing as He has always been. Joanne Soojay the beautiful successful wife, mother, daughter, loving friend and thriving business woman is quick to warn that her business empire is not only about money. She speaks to our Kea Modise-Moloto about her journey to a blissful life with God.

he says very early in our conversation ‘‘I learnt from a young age that money can also buy you the things you do not need…for me it was people’s deceit. Another lesson is that money has the power we give it but it does not buy us happiness and love.” The loving Joanne at age 10, used to buy goodies for almost all her “friends” until her Dad advised her to stop. To her surprise the number of the friends started dwindling, leaving only Ameena Hoosain - still her friend to date. “My husband and I’s networking busi-
ness has been successful, helping us to build, invest and grow our business portfolio comprising beauty salon, health and wellness, retail and private property as well as security services. Looking back, I realise that business found me. It was upon hearing about my then boyfriend, now my husband’s family business threatened liquidation that we, without thinking twice, abandoned everything else, including my lecturing career to focus on the franchise to bring it back to its feet to avoid family name going ‘bad’ and loss of property. It was an extremely difficult time of sleeping on the store’s floor with cold showers in the winter morning…but we made it. I was 21yrs old at the time and had recently left home – something I wanted from when I was 10yrs old, I was desperate to be free. I had felt claustrophobic since experiencing abuse from -I thinkage six. Memories flooded my mind recently when my son innocently asked for my favourite day of the week. I said Monday. Confused with his eyes wide open he gasped ‘Monday!?! No mommy!! It has to be a day in the weekend!?!’ As a child the weekend was when my abuse happened, I grew up hating and fearing weekends and school holidays. School was my safe-haven hence my love for Mondays. I felt the worst pain at 14yrs old when I revealed the abuse to my family and I was not believed. I remember, after their rejection, spending long hours in the park, swinging as high as I could with tears running down my face asking God where He was? What I did to deserve this? I thought He’s supposed to ensure that things are good all the time… I was to experience deeper pain when the perpetrator denied the abuse after my best friend, now my husband enARISE MAGAZINE MARCH/APRIL 2018 13

couraged me to confront the situation (Joanne’s eyes become tearful). But I forgave him. My God loving Mother taught me the process of forgiving and so I worked very hard and leaned on my Faith. And the Bible teaches us to forgive as Jesus did, as God does, and we, in return are healed and forgiven. BUILDING A GODLY FAMILY: My husband, Rajan Soojay, was an atheist when we met. We then got married and for a long time denied me interaction with my family. Due to being abused, I believed he was all I had. This was most painful and felt like an open wound was stabbed over and over by the one person meant to heal it. I loved him and trusted God to help him. For a long time he’d use the Bible to move Christians away from Faith. He had reserved Sunday mornings for motorbike rides until the day he heard a successful businessman quote Bible verses; this caught my his attention. I begged him to come to church with me when it rained and it rained for three consecutive Sundays from the day I asked and the rest is history. After consistent 13yrs of prayer he changed from studying the scripture for crucifying Christians to finding business strategies and guidance and in the process found God as lead14 MARCH/APRIL 2018

er and owner of his life. His Faith has changed our life in every way. We have been together for 23years now, blessed with 2 beautiful sons Jorah and Josiah. We pray together every day as a family. As parents, we do not only work hard on our 7 businesses but even harder on bringing up children who know, depend on, trust, love and respect God. JOANNE’S LESSONS: • Trials and tribulations just as smooth happy seasons may drive us away from God. But God is constantly present. Though I question and reject him at times, He has not rejected or turned his back on me. He forgives me and always ensures that I have what I need, including my business life. • I understand; especially after discovering 2 Corinthians: 1:4 that all I have experienced is not only for me but so that I can help others for ‘He helps us in all our trouble, so that we are equipped to help others who have all kinds of troubles, using the same help that we ourselves have received from God’ • I also learnt that my businesses are, importantly, to bring my Ministry alive. Through my business I meet different women who I am able to counsel and help. It is also my business success that prompts invitations to speak at women’s events where I tell my truth, enlightening women to see and believe that with God, patience and Faith – our dream lives are possible and promised. • The day you give up and let go of your Faith is the day you close doors to opportunities. • Forgiveness is a choice. When we choose to forgive we automatically LOVE again

IS IT A BUSINESS IF IT IS NOT ONLINE?
If you are questioning whether your business should go digital or not, you are already late!
W
hy? Because times are changing fast and everything is going digital. Whether you are a business or a social organisation, the first thing that people do when a service, product or organization is recommended is to search for it online; not only for access to the information but also in verification of the product or service. The primary focus of this shift is to promote accessibility and to be able to track the business’ return on investments. HERE ARE A FEW REASONS TO CONSIDER THE SHIFT OR EXPANSION: Traditional vs. Online marketing Traditional forms of marketing are not easy to track reach, whereas online marketing is able to give you thorough statistics. Online marketing allows you to be audience specific and does the tracking of your audience automatically; which means that target markets will be easier to refine, as the reach of the Internet is so wide. This access allows you to see which content keeps your audience engaged, through post specific stats and how perhaps you need to switch up your creative marketing strategies. Online marketing is also much more affordable because you are able to gain organic (unpaid) ranking and also use organic content creation with online platform features. RANKING For a business to gain good ranking (increased traffic to your site leading to conversions – which is the desired action to be taken by customer when visiting your site) online, one needs to achieve easy accessibility. This takes into consideration SEO, PPC, AdWords, product/service specific keywords, which is basically paid/unpaid marketing and optimization of content for better ranking. This is basically ensuring that the platforms you are marketing your brand on are all speaking the same language so that search engines can pick up the algorithms easily. Search Engine Optimization SEO is the practice of ensuring that web traffic increases towards your website or online platforms of marketing. SEO is one of the most effective tools to affect your online ranking. SEO tools are usually an application which is applied to your marketing platforms to optimize your content for easy accessibility and increased traffic. Check out this Beginner’s Guide to SEO. RETURN ON INVESTMENT Every business wants to know what they are gaining through the forms of marketing they choose. When using radio or billboards or television marketing; we seldom know the exact numbers of the reach of our marketing. We are just aware of the audience we are privy to but cannot measure the exact reach. With online marketing we are sure
to get exact figures which can guide the kind of content we use, as well as monitor audience engagements with our brand. All online platforms such as Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. have measurement tools called Analytics. Analytics will give you statistics which will guide your future engagement with your online audience. PAID VS UNPAID ONLINE MARKETING There are several options that one has when constructing digital strategies. Unpaid forms of online marketing include
using SEO to align keywords across platforms to ensure that the search engines are able to find your brand when keywords that match your copywrite come up in searches. Unpaid advertising is called organic or earned advertising which means that it is fully dependent on how easy it is to find your brand online. Paid forms include AdWords & Pay per Click advertising on Google; Facebook & Instagram paid advertising which boosts your posts. GOAL SETTING SHOULDN’T INTIMIDATE Without vision or life goals, our attention and effort goes to anything and everything of interests but hardly achieves anything meaningful. Achieving goals depends on inspiration and motivation. Goals only inspire action when they are authentic to the self. Goal setting is not only a critical solution to a fulfilling life but also a powerful motivational technique and tool that turns vision into reality. The process helps with choosing and committing to a direction and journey of life for a set time. It’s about ‘what will I focus on to get to where I want to within the identified period?’

How do we set goals? Life’s journey, dreams and aspiration prescribe our goals. The goal has to clear. An ambiguous goal will fail to yield desired results. Ensure that your goals are easy to understand and express. For example; I want to grow my Faith.
How do we achieve goals? Goals must be realistic to be achievable. Ensure that you identify the skills, tools and resources needed to achieve the goal. For

t takes a bit of convincing to interview Magauta Mphahlele!! ‘I am not that kind of woman Kea, I do not even go to church’ was her first response to our invite. And my response ‘…but you are the very woman we want Ausi, because #arisemag is about sharing the different but special relationships women have with God…’ closed the deal . Magauta is in a beautifully textured and adventurous journey and says that she dreamt of becoming a lawyer or an author.
portive relationship where we juggle financial and other responsibilities depending on our circumstances. For example, when I was retrenched he carried additional financial responsibilities but I’m now able to meet him halfway. I have always been clear about marriage not being for me because of my personality and perception. I prefer to take full responsibility for the decisions I make while enjoying the freedom to structure my life without having to consult or accommodate the needs of another person, except of my kids.
What do you think has made you successful? It has been a journey with loads of lessons and growth. ‘I have always been willing to do more than required, including volunteering to steer new projects. This enabled opportunities to learn and lead. When colleagues complained about a leader, I focused on what I could learn so I can never say I had a negative experience but rather a growth experience.
You also say they have taught you valuable life lessons I could write a book on my boys alone. My 25 year old was diagnosed with Schizophrenia at 19. My last born rejected mainstream schooling in Grade 5 and is now completing A Levels through home-schooling. The most important learning is redefining the definition of success and the way we love our children. When my son was 12years old, he sat me down and asked me to forget about the car and the house that education is supposed to equip him to attain, explained that he could reach the same destination through a different route and asked me to forget what my friends/society would say about him not achieving the same as other kids or at the same pace. He basically asked me to liberate myself from societal pressure to be the ‘perfect’ parent and instead focus on his spiritual and emotional well-being. He led me to be emotionally and spiritually capable when his brother got diagnosed. I was ready because of what I had gone through with his brother who also believed in Bhuddism and different ways of existing in the world. Dealing with mental illness requires loads of love, patience and understanding. I asked God for these and He obliged. I also decided to make it public and live my life as close to ‘normal’ as possible. So even when my son could not walk, eat or bath I used to bathe him and bring him to a restaurant
What has been your toughest moment of your professional career? In 2013 an organisation I was working for was closing down and staff had to be retrenched due to funds withdrawal. I offered to take it over and start from scratch and created a revenue generating model. This meant 3 years of financial struggle but today we are a growing and profitable 100% female owned company with no debt. I never complained because I understood that God has a way of transforming us through what we might see as hardship. You must be one brave woman to take such a risk while raising sons? My boys are 20 and 25years old. Their father and I have a very good relationship even though he is currently married to someone else. I do not make major parenting decisions without consulting him. There is no maintenance order but a mutually sup-

where I would feed him without a care for the stares. I used to take him along to our monthly outings with friends and make special arrangements with the restaurant. I chose not to question God but give Him praise for equipping me with the strength and capacity to mother my children. It must be emotionally and physically demanding yet you make it seem so easy. You still find time for other passions, where does this special love for food come from? I started experimenting with food from around 5years old. My Grandma allowed me to assist in the kitchen. She was a great cook and I remember the warm feeling of waking up or coming back from school to the smell of her cooking. We were poor but she taught me how to make beautiful dishes with very few ingredients. She taught me that cutting vegetables in a different shape made it look exotic on presentation. Cooking became an expression of love; I also witness this when my kids walk into the kitchen or when I entertain. My Granny used to wake me up at 5am to make dough for pancakes or bread. I still have the blanket she used to pin around my shoulders in the mornings. As a teenager I never went out to play. I read cooking books, watched cooking programs on TV and used every cent I had to buy the best meat and veggies to experiment. I rarely follow recipes because my Granny taught me to use what is available to create magic. I am always experimenting! And now cooking is a business too?! Yes, after being retrenched I realized that depending on one income stream when one has multiple skills with cash generating potential was senseless. I had been cooking as a hobby for years. I now head two organization as CEO and Acting Ombudsman. I sit on three Boards and also offer independent consulting and training on credit and consumer protection. Because of these commitments I handed 22 MARCH/APRIL 2018

I connect to Him by just saying simple prayer and thanking Him for every blessing and hardship because I’ve learnt that hardships are disguised blessings. the cooking business to my younger son who also loves cooking. He wants to be a professional chef and create a large catering company. Anyone that follows you on social media knows that you live a fun filled life - how do you balance it all - Motherhood, career, business, social life and everything in between? Everything I do is fun. I am Magauta not CEO. At work I’m known for my fun approach but with expectations of excellence and delivery. I celebrate the smallest of things both at work and home because to me these are little miracles that build up to huge ones. I celebrated our company’s first R10 000 the same way I celebrated our first million. I have made sure that I employ skilled people to run the day to day business while my role is to sustain stakeholder relationships, market the business and provide support for complex cases. My leadership style is to trust and allow people to make decisions but be close enough to monitor when they need guidance or support. In my business I do not call my team ‘employees’ but ‘partners in the business’. I take the responsibilities that come with the titles and positions I hold seriously without taking myself seriously. I present myself to the world in an authentic manner at all times. My interaction with my friends is well structured. We meet on a weekend, once a month. You have a special unexpected unorthodox relationship with God, where does it come from? My Grandmother did not go to Church
but I have never met anyone with such Faith and positive attitude. When we did not have food, she’d smile and tell us that something would come up and it always did. So I carry that positive Spirit with me. I have always known about God because my Gran always mentioned Him. To me He is just uncomplicated pure Love and my Gran taught me to appreciate His presence by becoming conscious of my surroundings and small everyday miracles. She used to take me to the mountains in Koster and just expose me to the beauty of nature and all its miracles. She taught me to speak to God as if I was chatting to a friend, so I am always talking to Him. I connect to Him by just saying simple prayer and thanking Him for every blessing and hardship because I’ve learnt that hardships are disguised blessings. I remember the year I could not afford to service my car, the garage attendant poured petrol in my diesel car, I laughed. He was surprised at my reaction as others would be angry. The filling station loaned me their best car for the two weeks while draining the petrol meaning the car was serviced for free. A disaster became a miracle. That is why I smile no matter the circumstances because I trust and understand God’s ways of delivering miracles. There are Believers who do not subscribe to the every Sunday church service...what is your take? I tried attending Church but always drop out. It’s just my nature to always want to do things my own way or according to my own understanding. I’ve created my own relationship with God based on day to day encounters with Him. During my school days, I’d tell teachers how to teach, so can you imagine me walking up to the pulpit and questioning the Pastor?LOL!! My Grandmother taught me to be a useful human being who excels at all I do. She taught me Love, diligence, humility, integrity and hard work. That’s all God wants from us plus to always trust Him.
You have just celebrated turning 50yrs... what has been your most important spiritual lesson? Spirituality is not about how many Bible verses you can quote but about always being open to and aware of God’s presence and love. This calls me to live a purposeful life, with fewer worries, giving love to everyone no matter their status, a life of continuous self-correction and self-introspection and understanding that challenges are meant to grow and not destroy me. God is Love expressed through us and how we interact with ourselves and other human beings. Ausi Magauta, Thank you, I had no doubt that you were something special… Any advice to those of us who want to win this life: In my Gran’s words; be a useful human being. Carry out even the smallest of duties as if you will be paid for it. She said I must sweep the yard as if God himself would walk there. Find ways to make yourself happy even under difficult circumstances. Know who you are and what you want out of life and don’t be apologetic about it. Create a trail of excellence in every duty and human interaction even when there are no direct rewards - they always come later. Give praise and thanks to God everyday even when you are feeling low and not seeing a way out. ARISE MAGAZINE MARCH/APRIL 2018 23

Hair To repair dry, dull and delicate hair: combine 1/2 avocado, 2 Tbsp argan oil, 10 drops of rosemary essential oil, and 1 Tbsp of apple cider vinegar, and pulse together. Work the mask through dry hair from scalp to hair tips, keep for 15 minutes, then rinse with a shampoo that is not too harsh for the hair. Do this at least once a month for healthier hair. For overnight treatment to add moisture to hair and scalp simply work a generous amount into hair from scalp to hair ends, wrap and rinse in morning for soft and smooth hair. Use as leave-in Conditioner by applying a small amount to wet hair, dry and style as normal.
Healthy Nails It Strengthens Nails: Mix equal parts of argan oil and lemon juice and soak for 10-15 minutes to limit breakage and give a healthy glow. Treat Cuticles by massaging a drop or two of argan oil into your cuticles. Repeat as often as necessary to heal dry and cracked cuticles To treat nail fungal infection just apply about 2 drops of argan oil directly to the infected nails. A beautiful skin is a well moisturised skin: after daily cleansing, smooth a drop or two of argan oil to the face and neck area. If you wear make – up, then dab with a paper towel before applying your make up. Or add it to your liquid foundation for that luminous glow. Create a facial scrub by adding a bit of argan oil to white or brown sugar, mix until into a paste. Use the paste to gently exfoliate…also good for dry or chapped lips. What about turning your favourite lotion into your favourite Lotion? Do so by adding a few drops to your lotion before applying. This will add hydration, and reduce the appearance of skin imperfections. Beautiful healthy Nails It Strengthens Nails: Mix equal parts of argan oil and lemon juice and soak for 1015 minutes to limit breakage and give a healthy glow. Treat Cuticles by massaging a drop or two of argan oil into your cuticles. God in Me!!
“F
or He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” 1 John 4:4. A bible verse we repeat many times…sometimes only to get through the day. We mostly use it to give ourselves or others encouragement and motivation when faced with difficult circumstances. Does it always get us going? Do we believe it? Do we only repeat it because of the hope of our expectations manifesting? Is there any responsibility required from us for this verse to be real in our lives? There are many questions that could be asked but the most important should be: what is the ‘He’ inside that is greater than ‘he’ in the world. We take it for granted that it is the power that is God. Is this always the case? Sometimes what’s inside is the fear, selfdoubt, low self-esteem and brokenness which may become greater and more powerful. What is on the inside overpowers what is on the outside because the inside dictates our actions and therefore that which manifests in our lives. Another example is that of those who hurt, oppress, rape, bully and manipulate others… they do so based on what they feel, believe and have experienced. Bad and traumatic experiences not accordingly addressed become internal monsters that dictate external behaviour and therefore create the world around us. Same is with the good, power, love, strength, courage, in other words God, He will manifest in our lives. As believers, we have the responsibility to allow God to live in us. There is a constant warfare between evil and good, wrong and right but we know that good is God. It is maybe easier to allow bad to win because it provides an easy way out - whether it is a bribe, a lie to
get out of a tight situation or adultery to satisfy the desire. Bad also control’s our thinking and the way we see ourselves. Bad tells us that we are not good, intelligent or slim enough, we are less than, cannot achieve or be loved. Allowing this to germinate in us automatically empowers the he in the world. It cripples us and stops progress, growth, ability and courage to overcome and win which are good and God intended. Our responsibility is to let God be the powerful force that lives within us so that He is the one that will manifests in our lives, the one that overpowers that which is in the world. He can ‘strengthen us to do all things’ - Phlipians4:13 only if He is inside us. He says in Revelations 3:20 ‘Look! I’m standing at the door and knocking. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to be with them and will have dinner with them, and they will have dinner with me.’ The verse tells us that He, God wants us to let Him in, to have a relationship with Him. That He is always interested in us, always wants to fellowship with us and He will do so only if we hear His voice and we answer. Only when we let Him in will he live in us. When He lives in us, we are able to fight and defeat what is in the world because He, who is in our hearts and mind becomes what feeds our Faith, actions, attitudes and aptitude…and if we allow it to be God, we have the very force, power to fight the evil and the destruction brought by the world against God’s children. Let the Faith in the power that is God, the Controller who answers prayers, is Merciful and Graciously saves and fights for those who love Him to be in our heart and mind...this is how we win against (he that is in) the world and they’ll ask ‘How did she do it? How does she do it? Then we are able to say: He who is in me is greater than he who is in world.

I AM MY INVESTMENT In a world that offers so many choices the question that most people ask is how does one stay grounded and ensure that all spheres of life are balanced?
F
rom a 23year old married female’s perspective, balancing all that life has to offer is quite daunting. I believe that in order to ensure that everything balances one has to know herself. You need to find your source of strength, place of refuge during storms when life seems too demanding. For me that strength has been my Maker, this is a personal journey on balancing my personal life, work life and my salvation as a young married woman plus the impact the latter has on the people around me. I find that society has a lot of opinions regarding married life especially towards women. back in the days women were expected to drop everything after saying “I do”. The notion of women being child bearers and family builders still exists in some communities. Thankfully this is not the case with me and I count that as one of my blessings. However there were other expectations, like not keeping the same friends as one had before marriage, changing dress style and the way you behave. Such takes a toll on someone who is still new in such an environment simply because you start feeling left out, like you do not belong in the newfound home. This is where knowing the self comes in; it

TESTIMONY helps to overcome such expectations. I broke boundaries when I got married and instead of letting go of friends, wearing ‘dignified’ long dresses and behaving in a certain manner I brought my truest version to the union. I brought a God fearing, career driven and family orientated woman. They say that is a recipe for disaster but I say that is how you experience true happiness, by coming into complete and authentic relationship with God. I am fully satisfied with what life has given me which means that I will pour who I am and what I have gained unto my partner. I do not need my husband to validate me and to complete me simply because I am complete with God. This has brought happiness, peace and love to my family because I have no expectations from my husband. I fully understand that he is an individual within our union and I am here to add value to our union and life; and vice versa. So I say marriage is what you make it with your partner, forget what people expect and focus on what God expects from you. Marriage founded with God as the foundation is effortless. I’m not saying there will not be challenges, there must be because that is how we learn to live with someone and understanding their way of doing things so there is bound to be a collision every now and then. And this, I have learnt the hard way. I’ve realised that when the Lord wants to deal with you personally He first makes drastic changes, He isolates you so that you are away from all the noise and other influences. He puts you in an uncomfortable position and then shows up, teaches you ways on how to approach and correct certain issues so that we may glorify Him. I have learnt to be a dedicated employee, loyal friend, sister and most importantly a loving, respectful and supportive
When life seems to be demanding I choose to trust the process and trust the One that goes before me and this has allowed me to be a living testimony to my family members, my peers, fellow colleagues and my husband wife, all because of the strength I got from knowing and understanding God’s word. Being content, selfless and understanding that the Lord works in mysterious ways to ensure that whatever happens in your life is in accordance with His will. So in this amazing, challenging journey, I live by certain scriptures Psalms 91:1-16 and Ephesians 4:1-2. When life seems to be demanding I choose to trust the process and trust the One that goes before me and this has allowed me to be a living testimony to my family, peers, fellow colleagues and husband. Being led by the Holy Spirit and being obedient to Him makes it easier to overcome all that comes with these responsibilities.

Making Financial Goals We all want to achieve in life – whether on a professional or personal level – and there is a fair amount of information available on how to set goals and achieve them. How many times, though, have you actually put this into practice? Knowledge is power, they say,but without action, all the knowledge in the world makes little difference.
S
ometimes, the problem is that we do not think our goals through which leads us to abandon the idea only to later wonder what actually happened. It is good to start by writing your goals down – do it without thinking too hard – just put it all on paper. Then identify which ones you will tackle in the short term (two years or less) and which in the longer term. Often you can identify goals by saying “I want....” and this will give you a good starting point. Consider applying the acronym SMART approach to setting goals. Let’s examine this in a financial example. Let’s say your goal is to save up enough money to go on a cruise. You would tackle this goal as follows:
S – specific - Cruise M – measurable - How much money you will need (i.e. the cost of the cruise) A – attainable -How much can you set aside each month to reach the goal R – relevant - It’s on your bucket list so very relevant! T – timeous – How long will it will take to save up?
If all of these five elements are in place, the goal setting process has a better chance of being effective. If your goals are vague, you have no idea where you are headed. If they are not measureable, you are not able to track progress, if they are unrealistic and not attainable, you will be disappointed and lose interest. And if they are not relevant, you will not be committed to them. Lastly if they do not have a specific time frame, you won’t be able to measure your progress. Whatever your goals, are, they are achievable if you follow these SMART principles. Next step is to list the steps that you will need to take to achieve these goals, and measure your progress regularly. This will help you to stay on track. Reward yourself as you make progress and celebrate your success. It is always very motivating and rewarding to look back and see how far you have come and what you have achieved. It may also be useful to break a big goal down into smaller goals. Let’s say you want to start your own business and need to have R100,000 capital. You could break the big financial goal down into smaller components, so instead of trying to save R100,000 in one big plan, set the goal of saving R50 000 in a year’s time, then another R50 000 in another year. And soon, you will be there! Remember too, that professional financial advice will guide you as to where to invest, as getting good returns will turn your goals into reality a lot faster!

These days they look beyond qualifications and require that you exhibit a bouquet of skills or ‘employability skills’ - soft skills being most important lately. Employers are now also looking for team members with the right skills and qualities to fulfil the role and contribute to the organisation's success. Candidates must have a fair balance of qualifications, 'hard skills' and 'soft skills'. These include skills and attitudes that enable employees to get along with their colleagues, make critical decisions, solve problems and ultimately become strong ambassadors for the organisation, some of the skills are: Interpersonal Skills which are vital and may be the single most important deciding factor as they allow effective interactions with team members and clients. This set of skills also lead to a less stressful workplace. Communication and Presentation Skills enable meaningful verbal and in written exchange of information. solve problems and take decisions. This makes you an asset every employer is looking for. This means you have the capacity to evaluate information and use it to create solutions for various problems. This is essential especially in customer service oriented positions. This also includes creative thinking. Being innovative and inventive promises potential employer of your potential to help the company to grow by offering new perspectives and improving systems which may lead to saving or making money for the organisation. Showing an interest in Personal Development demonstrates your right attitude and keenness to develop and learn. This means you are able to help the organisation to stay ahead of the competition as you present an opportunity to learn new ways of doing things. Leadership Skills are vital in every position at every level. This is the ability to influence others toward achieving set goals.
