FATHER’S DAY
Casino Arizona & Talking Stick Resort
Casino Arizona and Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale have prepared a great set of dining specials and a promotion just for Father’s Day this year on Sunday, June 16 at each property.
At Casino Arizona, you’ll find Father’s Day Menus at all six dining outlets (Cholla Prime Steakhouse, CAZ Sports Bar, The Willows Restaurant, Salt River Café, The Eagles Buffet, and CAZ Taqueria) so there will truly be something for everyone in terms of options. I looked at all of the menus and I honestly can’t decide which selection is “the best” for my palate.
So, for me, the highlights include: Cholla, with the bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapenos, a New York strip & dessert. CAAZ Sports Bar, with their ribeye burger & Oreo chocolate pudding. Willows, offering a pulled pork bacon burger & pecan pie. Salt River Café, has a smoked brisket double cheeseburger & turtle brownies. Eagles Buffet, the smorgasbord includes prime rib, smoked salmon, beignets (wow!), chicken wings, Chesapeake Bay oysters, and so much more. CAZ Taqueria, will present steak fajitas and dessert.
And, if you noticed, I mentioned all six choices anyway because I can’t decide! But, what patrons can also look forward to is the “Coolest Dad” promotion which is a kiosk earn ‘n’ win all day where you can win the Dad’s Ultimate Cool Pack!
The kiosk game at Talking Stick Resort will feature Dad’s Ultimate Road Trip Kit where 1,000 in earned slot points give guests the chance at $10 to $2,500 in free play or the Kit (valued up to $1,500). For more information, visit both websites at CasinoArizona.com and TalkingStickResort.com.

PLAYERS TALK
By Mark NovakQUESTIONS & ANSWERS ON:
Bonuses, Royal Flushes, Page 36 & Subscriptions
Q: First off, I love your Gaming Guide! I have a question pertaining to the bonuses on slot machines. Generally speaking, I think I understand how the RNG works. However, my question is regarding the bonuses you get during slot play. Assuming you’re lucky enough to get one! For example, if you get the bonus that has you picking to win a Mini, Minor, or Major Progressive, where you have to pick 3 matching symbols, is the outcome of that predetermined as well? So that no matter what you pick it’s going to be whatever the computer has already picked/decided? Or, do you really have the chance of picking the Major? Or is it just predetermined that you are going to get the bonus and once in the bonus it is truly up to you and what you pick? I appreciate the clarification.
Lori
Bailey– Tucson, Arizona
A: Hi Lori! Thanks for your great question. Our initial reaction to the scenario you describe (a very common one on many slots these days) is the bonus is predetermined. No matter what you pick, the computer already decided, based on a random number, what the bonus outcome is. You do have a chance at winning the Major, it’s just that the slot makes that decision based on the outcome of the random number drawn when you trigger the bonus. Your picks do not matter.
Your picks only matter when the objects you DID NOT select are revealed to you. A great example of a bonus which is determined by player input, where you must have three matching symbols, are the first Quick Hit slots from the mid to late 2000s. Sometimes you can still come across the games on casino floors. The free games bonus presented players with a picking game which determined the number of free games and the accompanying win multiplier. Look for the reveal at the end of the bonus. Nowadays, you will rarely come across a slot with this type of bonus where player picks matter.
Q: Could you tell me if I hit a Royal Flush on machine A, should I keep playing machine A or would it be advantageous to move to machine B? What would the odds be per machine?
Ken Menez – Maricopa,Arizona
A: Hi Ken! That’s a great question! The odds of hitting a Royal
Flush on any video poker game is the same (once you account for the pay table and the optimal strategy). Most Royal Flushes hit once every 40,000 to 45,000 hands, on average, over the long run (based on the pay table). For example, the chances of hitting a Royal on a 9/6 Double Double pay table is about once every 40,800 hands. So, the quick answer is the odds are all the same and it does not matter which machine you pick or if you switch machines. Even after you’ve already hit a Royal Flush.
However, having hit a Royal Flush on game A, personally, I’d walk away. Other players might not leave, their belief being if the game is “hot” not only might you win another Royal Flush, but you might also hit the Aces or other four-of-a-kinds. Another belief is that switching to a new game “gives you a better chance” or “resets your luck” in order to win again. Ultimately, those are all beliefs. Your beliefs can change or be incredibly steadfast, but the odds in question don’t change between hands.
Q: Is there any relevance to the Chinese horoscope and the numbers you assign?
Michael Conover – Gilbert, Arizona
A: Hi Michael! We appreciate your question! The days of the month listed in the Lunar Horoscope (usually on page 36) are the days which are “auspicious” (favored by fortune) for those activities. The numbers listed in the zodiac part, which are broken up by birth sign, are relevant to that sign as lucky numbers for the month. We are presenting two different sets of numbers based on separate belief systems and it is not our intention to imply an overlap between the two.
Q: Is there a way to obtain your print magazine by mail? I live in Montana but I have two families I visit in the Phoenix area several times each year. Thanks.
Robert Herbst – Baker, Montana
A: Robert, thanks for being a dedicated fan! We don’t offer a subscription service for our magazine as it is free to pick up and view online during the month. Please consider signing up for our e-newsletter and have the digital magazine delivered right to your inbox every month and you will not miss an issue. $

Numbers, Sequences, Bankroll & More!
M SIX-PACK ROULETTE SYSTEM
any roulette players regularly bet on a single spot. It’s simple and fun when their number comes up. But with just one chance in 36, it won't happen too often! Hence, betting systems like the D'Alembert, Labouchere, and Fibonacci were invented. They keep the game fun, offer occasional profits, and require some concentration at the table. Personally, I prefer the Six-Pack system!
There’s a section on all Arizona double-zero wheels where my favorite number, 32, lies. It’s surrounded by 17 and 20, next to 5 and 7. I can cover seven numbers with three chips by betting straight-up on 32, splitting 17 and 20, and quartering 4, 5, 7, and 8. More numbers, more action, and I’m in it for the action!
Once I hit something, I often add four quarters around 32, so I also win with 28 through 36. If those numbers start hitting, I double up the quarters and 32. Sometimes, I kill it, and sometimes, the system kills me. It’s the razor’s edge.
ROULETTE NUMBERS AND SEQUENCES
In philosophy, Occam’s razor states: “Plurality should not be posited without necessity,” roughly translating into the KISS principle: Keep It Simple, Stupid. But again, I need action on more than one number, so anything that enhances that thought is good for me.
The Six-Pack roulette system takes five chips per spin, but you cover four numbers straight up and take a six-pack (colloquially known as a six-line or double street) that bisects two numbers along the outside wagers and covers six numbers.
I get plenty of action, and I’m constantly enticed (or driven crazy) by the fact that the ball always lands at most three spots from a winner!
BANKROLL REQUIREMENTS
You only need five chips to take this system for a spin, but it's wise to start by purchasing a chip color at the minimum limits. Sixty chips are a good beginning, with an overall bankroll of 180 for the table.
On a double zero wheel, choose a six-pack number set:
1 through 6 plus numbers 8, 10, 20 and 26
4 through 9 plus numbers 10, 13, 14 and 15
10 through 15 plus numbers 16, 17, 18 and 28
13 through 18 plus numbers 11, 12, 27 and 28
19 through 24 plus numbers 1, 2, 25 and 26
28 through 33 plus numbers 00, 22, 24 and 35
31 through 36 plus numbers 0, 00, 29 and 30
For instance, place a single chip on the double street of 1 through 6 and a chip on 8, 10, 20 and 26. If 1 through 6 hits, you’ll get five chips and profit one chip. If 8, 10, 20 or 26 hits, you’ll be paid 35 chips, and you can replace the four chips that missed or double up on all five chips!
After missing all numbers, stay with single-chip wagers until you hit a straight-up bet. When you do, double your wagers for a spin or two. If you’re winning, try to stay there until you hit another 35-1 shot. Quit if you burn your 60 chips and take a break.
Suppose you hit a straight-up at double or triple-up for a few spins. Then, quit when you drop to even or when you hit your exit number of perhaps 200 chips. $

TABLE GAMES
By TJ JorgensenPROBABILITY 101
The Game Of Blackjack Has No Memory, Or Does It?
Let’s imagine you come across a line of a thousand people at a casino and you give them each a coin and tell them all to flip it. Then, everyone who flips a tails you inform to sit down. You then have approximately five hundred left standing, because the odds of getting heads is fifty percent.
If you repeat the exercise with the remaining five hundred people and again tell those who flip tails to sit down, you then have two hundred and fifty left. Even though those that remain flipped two heads in a row, the odds of flipping heads or tails is still fifty percent, and previous results have no influence on future results.
If we repeat this exercise with the two hundred and fifty left standing and again tell those who flip tails to sit down, we then have one hundred twenty five left standing. Again, although the participants still standing flipped three heads in a row, the odds of them continuing to get heads or tails is still fifty percent.
If we continue this exercise until we are down to a final participant, he will have flipped ten heads in a row. But, still, the next flip would be a fifty-fifty gamble because previous results have no influence on future outcomes. So for example, when you see a roulette wheel post the previous ten results were all black and players say, “Well, the next one has to be red!” you know that the previous result does not matter in determining future results.
The situation is the same with slot machines. If you hear a player say, “This machine hasn't hit in a long time, it's due!” No! It is not because each spin is random and previous results have no effect on future outcomes.
In the game of blackjack, at a constant shuffle table, you will find the results tend to be more random than at a table which shuffles at the end of the shoe, and in this situation previous results do affect future results. For example, even though the odds of getting a blackjack at the beginning of a shuffle are twenty-one to one, if you see all eight Aces dealt in a two deck shoe, you know that the odds of getting a blackjack are now 0, because an Ace is required for blackjack and there are zero Aces left in the remaining cards to be played. In this case, the previous results do affect future outcomes.
This is essentially how card counting works. When certain cards s probability of winning or losing. If the player knows the probability of winning is higher on the upcoming hand, they will bet more money. If the player knows that the probability is higher of losing on the upcoming hand, they will bet the minimum or sit out of the hand altogether.
Additionally, there is a playing strategy that goes along with counting which has forty-three changes over basic strategy and increases the players’ winning by approximately ten percent. For example, if you are dealt a sixteen against a dealer up card of a ten, basic strategy tells you to hit. But, to the counter who is more aware there are more tens than small cards, the playing strategy indicates to stand.
This type of player knows the information because of the count. And, this is why casinos don't like card counters because they know that their game can be beaten. Take the time to learn the game, otherwise don’t play at all! $

Nick Reagan and his team of talented CIA operatives have managed to prevent three horrific attacks planned by the ruthless terrorist known worldwide as The Handler. Cunning and resourceful, The Handler has eluded capture, and now Reagan is determined to track him down.
As he assembles clues to the possible whereabouts of his prey, Reagan’s superiors in the CIA inexplicably order him to stand down. Accustomed to flouting authority, Reagan ignores the directive while seeking to identify the source of this obstruction. As he probes, it becomes increasingly evident that the evil he faces is corruption from within.

WIN BIG PLAYING LIVE KENO
At Casino Arizona & Talking Stick Resort
A KENO KORNER
s you know, I’ve been writing about Keno for a few issues now and I wanted to review a few of the Keno options around the Phoenix area this month.
WHERE TO PLAY
Live Keno is offered in the Keno Lounge at Casino Arizona, located just off the casino floor next to the Showroom; on the casino floor; and inside many of their restaurants and cafes.
Make sure to visit the new Keno Lounge at Talking Stick Resort as well. They are now open daily from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. playing live games. Automated games are offered during other times. If you are a guest staying at Talking Stick Resort, you can also tune in to view live games from the comfort of your room or online at KenoUSA.com.
MEGA KENO THE INSIDE SCOOP
Mega Keno can be played with a wager of only $1.50. And the idea is pretty straightforward. Hit all your numbers, win the progressive! The valid spots are 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.
So, if you asked me which spots you should play, I’d answer
“That depends!” As the pays for 10 spots start with 5 and 7 spots start at 4, those are the two I’d play (9 spots start at 5, 8 spots start at 5, 6 spots start at 3, 5 spots start at 3). Pick whatever pattern works for you, but with the progressive values at over $4.2 million and almost at $27,000 at press time this month, that’s what I’d play right now.
When the progressive jackpots reset, Mega Keno strategy changes and I’d answer differently. Therefore, stick with the lower number of spots. You have a better chance at the top prize. When playing 5 spots, the jackpot hits every 1,550 games, on average, over the long run. That’s not bad!

New Study Reveals Top Google Searches For Hobbies & De-Stressing
Hobbies are critically important for human beings (or, is that humans being?). Actually, they are critical for general physical and mental health. They can reduce stress, enhance mood, increase creativity, improve focus and concentration, provide for a sense of accomplishment and enhance social connections.
Possibly one of the worst decisions we can make as we approach and enter our retirement years is to not have a set of hobbies we can turn to which will replace the work-life balance we built up for many decades. Some of us may never really retire, and for some a hobby may actually replace work in later years, but all of us need a sense of purpose on a daily basis. So, go forth and hobby!
A new study has revealed which de-stressing activity is the most popular across the US, with gaming ranked top.
The research, conducted by the Interventional Pain Management & Ortho-Spine Center, analyzed monthly Google searches over the past 12 months in each state and nationwide, to find out which activity is the nation’s favorite for de-stressing.
This included ten search variations for each hobby, which included ‘[hobby] class’, ‘[hobby] lessons’ and ‘how to learn [hobby]’. The total number of monthly searches was then combined for each of these pastimes.
Gaming was found to be the most popular hobby nationwide, with 4.4 million monthly searches on average.
Ranking second is kayaking, with 2.16 million searches per month, while the gym ranked third with 2.08 million monthly searches on average.
Football placed fourth with 1.92 million monthly searches and basketball ranked fifth with 1.59 million average monthly searches.
At the other end of the scale, the least popular hobby was found to be motorcycle restoration with just 6,263 searches per month on average.
Home brewing comes in as the second least-searched activity, with 9,275 monthly searches, while stamp collecting placed third with 11,575 monthly searches.
Speaking on the findings, Dr. Amit Poonia, MD at Interventional Pain Management and Ortho-Spine Center said, “Engaging in fun activities is crucial for providing a break from the stressors of daily life, allowing your mind to focus on something enjoyable or engaging. This distraction can help reduce the intensity of stress and promote relaxation.”
“Engaging in activities with others, whether it's playing sports, joining a club, or even playing games with friends, can provide opportunities for social connection and support. Social support is crucial for managing stress and promoting resilience.”
“Activities can boost self-esteem and confidence, which are important for combating stress. Even small accomplishments can provide a sense of satisfaction and control over one's life.”
Dr. Poonia, himself, plays the videogame Call Of Duty with his kids to destress himself at least twice a week. $

I WANT TO SMOKE & PLAY VIDEO POKER
But I Can’t Stand Video Keno Players Bothering Me
Ilove your column and your candidness. I read the Gaming Guide every month. It’s always an interesting read. Great job.
I’m going to rant to you because I know that there is absolutely no reason to go to the casino as they will surely not do anything about my complaint. I will only look like a whiny gambler to them.
Here is what happened to me last weekend and what has happened to me on too many occasions to count:
I was at [a casino] playing Video Poker in their smoking section. I only play Ultimate X or [other specialty video poker] quarters at five lines for a bet of $12.50. Next to me was a lady who was playing on the Keno machine at nickels for one bet at 5 cents. This woman was obnoxious. She was smacking the buttons and talking on the phone the entire time at full volume, smoking away like a chimney. She had no consideration for me or any of the other players around her. God forbid I asked her to not be so loud because I’m trying to concentrate on the hands I’m holding. Who knows the backlash I might have gotten from her, even if I asked politely. And, I already know what would have happened if I told a slot attendant or security guard that she is bothering me – nothing!
How do I know? Because I did it once before when I was sitting next to a maniac who was not only smacking the buttons, but also hitting the screen and kicking the machine. I was told that “he had a right to be there just as much as I had and there was nothing that they could do.” I was appalled by that response. I told the security guard, “don’t you care about your machines and the damage that is happening by someone like him?” They answered, “if it gets to be out of control, we’ll say something.” Out of control?! What does the person have to do, set the game on fire, for security to tell them to calm the heck down or ask them to leave?!
I’m very frustrated for two reasons: One, I’m a [highest level card] player at [this casino]. I believe that if I’m playing $12.50 per hand and someone next to me is playing 5 cents, then that should mean something and my voice should be heard. Why am I [the highest-level card holder] being treated with disrespect over someone who is playing 5 cents AND, by the way, NOT playing with a player’s card! For three hours straight I watched this woman smack away on her Keno game at 5 cents per spin with $1 in the game playing Cleopatra Keno. I’m not kidding. Each time I was hopeful she was almost out of money and would be leaving soon, she’d get the darn bonus and get back her $1. And don’t get me started about the maddening sound that comes from a Keno game – duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh! I can’t tell you how many Keno players
I ve sat next to who intentionally put the volume on max, including this woman.
Two, I don’t understand why casinos would even have available these annoying Keno games at 5 cents? How are they even making any money on these people? They’re taking away a machine from a person who would probably be playing at least one line Video Poker for $1.25, if not more! And, they’re allowing us “real” players to be annoyed as heck for what reason? It makes no sense to me? My suggestion would be to put all Keno players in their own little section away from all the rest of us.
Elizabeth An Annoyed Video Poker Player In Arizona
Thanks for your letter Elizabeth. Having been in situations similar to yours, I completely understand how you feel.
Personally, I fail to comprehend why IGT (the slot manufacturer who makes 99% of the multi-game video poker/video keno/slot units available in casinos) hasn’t figured out that a video keno player and a video poker player are two different types of casino customers. One would think after decades of having these games on the floor, somehow, the feedback from the customer experience would filter through the casino and back to IGT which might lead to some change.
To prove my point, one of the most obvious distinctions between these players is the amount of their wagers. The vast majority of video poker players are betting from 5 to 1,000 times more than the majority of video keno players. Just spend a little time observing what is happening when multi-game units are being played in a casino and you’ll see what I’m talking about. What I find really confusing is when a casino’s multi-game units are completely taken up by minimum bet video keno players and video poker players (regardless of what they might wager and how large their bankroll is) can’t play at all. $

A mathematician, an accountant and an economist apply for the same job. The interviewer calls in the mathematician and asks, “What does two plus two equal?” The mathematician replies, “Four.” The interviewer asks, “Four, exactly?” The mathematician looks at the interviewer incredulously and says, “Yes, four, exactly.” Then the interviewer calls in the accountant and asks the same question, “What does two plus two equal?” The accountant says, “On average, four – give or take ten percent, but on average, four.” Then the interviewer calls in the economist and poses the same question, “What does two plus two equal?” The economist gets up, locks the door, closes the shade, sits down next to the interviewer and says, “What do you want it to equal?”
A man who needs legal help goes to a lawyer’s office. After being escorted inside, he sits across the desk from the lawyer. The man needs legal help, but he wants to make sure he can afford it first. “Can you tell me how much you charge?” he asks. “Of course,” the lawyer replies, “I charge $800 to answer three questions.” “Don’t you think that’s an awful lot of money to answer three questions?” “Yes it is,” answers the lawyer, “What’s your third question?”
