ELAINE ROMERO A An award-winning U.S. playwright, Elaine Romero’s plays have been presented across the U.S. and abroad; she is widely published and anthologized. Revolutions/Revoluciones, Wetback, Like Heaven, and Bloody River were all produced last season. Revolutions/Revoluciones was produced in Spanish translation at the Los Angeles Theatre Center, under the direction of famed Mexican director Bruno Bichir, with a cast from Mexico. It’s the final play in Romero’s pentalogy, including Graveyard of Empires (16th St. Theatre), A Work of Art (Goodman Theatre/Chicago Dramatists), and her plays-in-residence, When Reason Sleeps (Headlands Center for the Arts, Artist-in-Residence) and Martínez in Taos (Arizona Theatre Company).

grant, the NEA/TCG Playwright-in-Residence Program, the Blue Ink Playwrights Award, the Sprenger-Lang New History Foundation Award, the Chicano/Latino Literary Award, and many others. Romero’s work has been published by Dramatists Play Service, Samuel French, Playscripts, and Simon and Schuster, among others. She wrote the short film, A Sentiment, about the 19th Amendment (U.S. Women’s Right to Vote) on commission for Burning Coal Theatre/The Justice Theatre Project. Chatham Life and Style named the piece in the top five of the 19th Amendment Project, which featured some of the U.S.’s top women playwrights. She had two Viral Monologues produced this summer, Oyster (24-Hour Plays/Arizona Theatre Company: Arizona Edition) and Shackle (24-Hour Plays/ New Sanctuary Coalition). Romero is a Steering Committee Member with the Latinx Theatre Commons. She also serves as the Southwest Regional Rep for the Dramatists Guild of America. She has had the good fortune of being a member of NBC’s Writer’s on the Verge, the CBS Writers’ Diversity Program, and the NHMC’s Latino Writers’ Program. She previously taught film and television writing at Northwestern University.

Modern Slave, commissioned by Ford’s Theatre, was presented at the 2017 Seven Devils Playwrights Conference. It was developed at A Contemporary Theatre (Seattle), Victory Gardens Theatre (Chicago), and The Road Theatre (LA). From her Arizona/Mexico border trilogy (Mother of Exiles, Wetback), her Arizona Theatre Company commission, Title IX, was included in the 2017 Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference. At Erik Ehn’s Silent Playwrights’ Retreat at the Green Gulch Farm Zen Center, she wrote Halsted.

Romero is an Associate Professor in the School of Theatre, Film, and Television at the University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, and the Playwright-in-Residence at Arizona Theatre Company. RomeroFest features her work at theatres nationally and internationally.

Alba Jaramillo A (Catherine; she/her/hers) holds a Bachelor of Arts in theatre arts and anthropology from the University of Arizona and a Juris Doctor from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. Some of her acting credits and leading roles include “La Santa Muerte” in Lote Bravo and “Alba” in The House of the Spirits, both produced by Borderlands Theatre Company, and “Digna” in the play Digna with Teatro Dignidad, which was featured in several international festivals and for which she received a nomination for “best actress in drama” (Mac Awards, 2017). Alba’s background in theatre arts and law, and her experience as an activist and community organizer, prompted her to create Teatro Dignidad, a theater company in Tucson that produces bilingual plays about human rights. Alba serves as the Executive Director of Arizona Justice For Our Neighbors, a non-profit organization that provides legal services and advocacy for immigrants and asylum seekers. Will Rogers A (Technical Director; he/him/his) is a creative producer/director. His recent work has focused on the journey of theatre to the digital realm and its impact on community dialogue as Digital Producer and Community Engagement Manager for Arizona Theatre Company. He is part of the creative team Quaren-Teams for The Bridge Initiative (Phoenix). In Chicago, he founded the culinary performance company Plateful and produced Living The History, the 125th anniversary celebration Auditorium Theater (w/ Patti LuPone, John Mahoney, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and many more). Will created youth programs for Merrimack Repertory Theatre, Ragdale Foundation and PerryMansfield Performing Arts Camp. He was Associate Producer and Casting Director for Chicago’s Victory Gardens Theater. He is an alumnus of Lincoln Center Theatre’s Directors Lab and he

EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP Sean Daniels A (Artistic Director) is honored to be in his second season at ATC, where he first fell in love with theatre.

Sean has directed at Manhatta n Theatre Club (The Lion, Drama Desk Award & Theatre World Award, nominated for Lucille Lortel and Outer Critics Circle), 59e59 (NYC, I and You, nominated for Outer Critics Circle), Lynn Redgrave (NYC), The Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.), St. James (West End, London - The Lion, winner of Best New Musical), Arena Stage, A.C.T. (San Francisco), Milwaukee Rep, Old Globe, Geffen (L.A.), Actors Theatre of Louisville, Portland Center Stage, Geva Theatre, Playmakers Rep, Cleveland Play House, Alliance Theatre, California Shakespeare, Dad’s Garage Theatre Company, City Theatre, Swine Palace, Neo-Futurists, Aurora Theatre, Crowded Fire and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Sean has been named “one of the top fifteen up and coming artists in the U.S., whose work will be transforming America’s stages for decades to come” and “One Of 7 People Reshaping And Revitalizing The American Musical” by American Theatre magazine. His direction and shows have won “Best Play” and “Best Director” in London, Bay Area, Boston, Portland, Rochester, and Atlanta. He was previously the Artistic Director of Merrimack Repertory Theatre, where he received national attention for his multiple artistic engagement programs that brought the community inside the organization. He’s also served as the Artist-At-Large for Geva Theatre Center and spent four years at the Tony Award®-winning Actors Theatre of Louisville as the theatre’s Associate Artistic Director (where he directed 17 productions including five Humana Festivals). Mr. Daniels is the former Associate Artistic Director/Resident Director of the California Shakespeare Theater, and before that, he spent a decade as the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Dad’s Garage Theater Company in Atlanta. He has developed new work with the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, Ars Nova, PlayPenn, Lark, PlayLabs, New York Stage and Film, Asolo Rep, Goodspeed Opera, Weston Playhouse, Bay Area Playwrights, and Magic Theatre, and he was the first American director asked to attend the Baltic American Playwrights Conference in Hiiumaa, Estonia. As a playwright, his work has been produced at Actors Theatre of Louisville, City Theatre, Merrimack Repertory Theatre, and Dad’s Garage. He was the first ever playwright authorized by the Jack Kerouac Estate to adapt his work for the stage. The Commercial Off-Broadway run of his sober comedy The White Chip was produced by fivetime Tony Award* nominee Tom Kirdahy. EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP Geri Wright A (Managing Director) returned to Arizona Theatre Company in January 2020. Her love of theatre started at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on a school field trip and has grown into a passion for the arts today. Having served in leadership roles at the Heard Museum, American Red Cross, Arizona Theatre Company and most recently as CEO of Act One, Geri has been a passionate advocate for the importance that the arts play in creating healthy and prosperous communities. With more than 25 years in nonprofit management and fundraising experience, she is thrilled to be able to put those skills to use in serving our state theatre. In 2019, Geri was recognized as one of the Outstanding Women in Business by the Phoenix Business Journal and has been honored with an assortment of acknowledgments for her work in the charitable community. Geri and her family, along with two horses and an Australian cattle dog, reside at the base of the McDowell Mountains.
