Have you heard about A-State’s partnership with ACUE (Association of College and University Educators)?

Learn about the prestigious ACUE higher education teaching credential and how you can become ACUE-certified.

A-State faculty members who have completed the ACUE Effective Teaching Practices course and are ACUE certified will describe their experiences as members of the first A-State cohort. They will share both the benefits and the challenges of earning the credential as well as their perspectives regarding how it has impacted their students (and how it could impact yours).

Would you like to see how colleagues have incorporated various teaching practices and tech tools into their courses and classroom teaching? Join a number of faculty members who will demonstrate their classroom use of Nearpod, VoiceThread, and Adobe Creative Cloud products or explain teaching practices implemented through the ACUE Effective Teaching Practices course.

This will be an informal session, a faculty “Show and Tell” so to speak, to learn how colleagues are making use of tech tools in their teaching. In addition to a few invited guests, any faculty member may give a brief presentation demonstrating a specific app or program that they have used with their students. Or just join us to learn from colleagues. We will focus primarily on tools that are provided by A-State and integrated with our LMS, such as Nearpod and VoiceThread; however, demonstrations of other tools are welcome as well.

This short course focuses on quick and easy ways to hold students accountable.

We will focus on the Turnitin plagiarism tool in Blackboard as a method of detecting plagiarized material and the Respondus Lockdown Browser and Monitor to prevent cheating during online exams.

This short course focuses on turning existing exam questions into question banks that can be used to create new exams.

With students sharing exams online, a simple method to prevent your exams from being known beforehand is to use randomized questions from test banks. By using Respondus 4.0 and other software you can import questions into related question banks. These can then be used to generate a randomized exam that students have never seen before. All while ensuring that your exam difficulty and what is being assessed remains the same.

This short course focuses on how you can breathe a new digital life into older content you would like to upload.

With the aid of video capture devices and some freely available software you can create digital versions of that media. This content can then be uploaded to our Kaltura Video Management system to share with your class. By embedding these videos in your course, you can then make these videos available to students to review. This is both a boon to instructors wishing to implement a flipped classroom as well as to students studying for an assessment.

This three-day workshop introduces organizing programmatic change in order to develop more diverse, equitable, and inclusive curriculum. We will discuss the changes we have made to the General Education curriculum in English (Composition I and Composition II).

DEI initiatives and a cohering campus culture ground the 5-Year plan for A-State and the Strategic Plans of many of our colleges. How, though, can this be reflected in our curriculum, while still meeting programmatic assessment benchmarks and GenEd requirements, while at the same time meeting recruitment and retention goals? This workshop will highlight the work we have done in the First-Year Composition program over the last two years and will also describe our future plans, including how to achieve these changes without overwhelming faculty.

These practices also tie-in to service goals (retention and recruitment) and research goals (conference presentations and publications), which are areas that concern all faculty.

This short course focuses on the different ways you can share media using Kaltura to engage your students with course content.

Kaltura makes it simple to create, upload, and share many different types of content with students. You can also use the included screen recorder to create recorded lectures or the Video Quiz feature to assess comprehension during the video. Regardless of which features you use, sharing media with Kaltura is a great way to engage students with your course’s content.

This short course will review a lesson on lighting and audio capture.

This session will help you capture your best self on camera by showing you some simple and inexpensive lighting and sound techniques. In this session we will cover color temperature, simple lighting equipment, and three-point lighting. We will then cover simple audio equipment and mixing to improve the audio captured with your recording.

This short course focuses on using OBS (Open Broadcaster Software®) to add effects and improve the look of your Zoom conferences.

OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is a free and open source software for video recording and live streaming.

With this software you can create scenes made up of multiple sources including window captures, images, text, browser windows, webcams, capture cards and more.

You can then switch between these seams seamlessly via custom transitions. All of this can then be broadcast as a camera feed that you can then share in Zoom to add features and effects to your conferences.

Not everyone is comfortable being on camera or creating videos for classes. This short course will focus on advice and tips for improving your video content.

Instructor presence in online courses and videos is important for student engagement, but not everyone is comfortable being on camera.
