DESIGN
As the platform structure was only established during 2011,
The design platform spans four main areas of design praxis: spatial,

with the platform structure. It is for this reason that not all of the thirteen platforms are represented in the following.
The traditional Danish approach to design is based on an empathetic appreciation of the people we design for, sustainability in both production and life cycle, visual processes for handling complex problems, and idea generation and analysis. The design platform furthermore emphasises the importance of process understanding in inter-disciplinary collaborations as well as aesthetic discipline when working with the final artefact.
This means that the overall subject of design is taught through practice as well as theory, in order to continually deepen design competence and challenge the limits of design application. The designer is equipped to balance artistic practices and market-orientation, in recognition of the commercial context in which design exists.
Research and development work on the platform focuses on creating knowledge about and for the design field as well as the broader scientific and societal context. The ultimate objective is to enhance the ability of the design discipline to resolve increasingly complex problems. We see design as an important driver of continued growth and improvement in the overall quality of life. Researchers from the design platform contribute to this by designing physical artifacts including interactive spaces/objects and user-friendly packaging. The design platform also develops design processes, and explores the concept of design in relation to strategy development in small, medium and large enterprises.
The external cooperative partners of the platform are primarily national and international educational and research institutions that share an interest in design, new technologies and strategic processes.

The platform provides a forum for research-related questions such as: How do representations affect our understanding of architecture? How can we develop architecture based on a conscious use of representations? What is - and what will be –the future role of the architect in a media-based society and what new visual cultures and situations of communication centred around architecture will arise in the future?

year, oral presentations and talks were by far the most used type of communication. However, in 2011, for the first time, conferences, seminars and workshop organisation and/or participation represented almost half of the school’s communication activities.
This is also visible in the distribution of the school’s research publications where conference contributions account for more than a quarter of the total publications; this might be seen as a sign of a growing awareness of the importance of networking.
