AALARA PROFILE AND HISTORY Since 1994, The Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association Inc. (AALARA), has connected industry business owners, operators and professionals within the Australian Amusement, Leisure and recreation industry. The Association educates and trains its members to achieve standards of excellence and professionalism in business ethics, operations and practices. The association’s aim is also to promote and safeguard the interests of its members whilst being a relevant source of information on industry trends and statistics in the business of fun. AALARA, being the peak national body for the amusement, leisure and recreation industry in Australia provides a united Industry voice within government and community.

AALARA’S STRUCTURE AALARA is an association incorporated in New South Wales. An elected Board, with an Executive Committee consisting of an elected President, President Elect, Vice President, and Immediate Past President/ Treasurer, manages AALARA’s activities. A general manager is appointed to handle the day-to-day management of the Association. The current Board has strong representation from individuals who collectively represent hundreds of years of experience in the amusement, leisure and recreation industries.

AALARA has also established a number of committees to deal with operational areas such as education and training, conference organising and special projects. The responsibilities of AALARA’s committees change from time to time according to requirements. AALARA is also represented on Australian Standards committees involved in the drafting and publication of guidance for the manufacture, installation and operation of amusement, leisure and recreation industry equipment.

AALARA INITIATIVES 1. Code of Ethics – AALARA has adopted an industry Code of Ethics as a standard of practice for all its members. Copies of the Code of Ethics are available from the AALARA National Ofﬁce. 2. Gold Service Award – The AALARA Gold Service Award is an annual Award that aims to recognise outstanding and/or long-term contributions to the amusement, leisure and recreation industry. 3. Safety Support Programs – Safety Support Programs are industry self-regulation initiatives that are designed to ensure that the operational standards of amusement industry operatives are elevated to best practice standards with appropriate training, licensing and accreditation for all members of the

industry. AALARA believes that this is the most vital initiative that this industry will be asked to embrace during this decade. 4. International Links – AALARA maintains close links with complementary international associations including the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), the Outdoor Amusement Business Association (OABA) and the World Waterpark Association (WWA). 5. AALARA Membership – Active Membership of AALARA is open to any individual, partnership, company or organization involved in the amusement, leisure and recreation industry. Operators, owners, manufacturers, suppliers, consultants and any other interested

parties are eligible to join AALARA as Active Members. Active Members receive all membership benefits and can vote in AALARA elections. The classification of memberships is as follows: • Corporate A – Companies with an annual turnover of up to $2M dollars. • Corporate B – Companies with an annual turnover of $2M to $10M dollars. • Corporate C – Companies with an annual turnover of over $10M dollars. • Association – A group within the amusement, leisure and recreation industry. • Engineer – Any individual who carries out engineering inspections and certifications in the amusement, leisure and recreation industry. • Student – For full-time students studying tourism or related degrees.

CODE OF ETHICS The Australian Amusement Leisure and Recreation Association (“AALARA”) acknowledges the principle of providing amusement, leisure and recreation facilities and experiences for the public as being a matter of public trust. Professional management and the operation of entertainment facilities, while observing the highest possible safety standards, is of paramount importance to all sectors of the industry from the smallest independent operator to the largest manufacturer or provider - of entertainment experiences. This must be the cornerstone of accountability in the Amusement, Leisure and Recreation industries in the 21st century. All members of AALARA are therefore required to abide by the AALARA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and to the general aims and objectives of AALARA. AALARA’s Code of Ethics & Professional Conduct recognizes that the objectives of the Amusement, Leisure and Recreation profession are to work to the highest standards of professionalism, to attain the highest levels of safety and performance and generally to meet and exceed the public interest requirement. Membership of the Australian Amusement Leisure and Recreation Association (AALARA) is a privilege that carries with it the responsibility to maintain the highest standards of professional conduct.

AALARA’s objectives require that four basic needs be met: 1. Credibility - Within society generally there is a need for credibility in the profession of Amusement, Leisure and Recreation services provision, the role that is played by the operators of these facilities and their contribution to the enjoyment of leisure time activities 2. Professionalism - There is a need for individuals and corporate entities who can be clearly identified by employers, employees, clients and members of the public as professionals in the area of the provision of Amusement, Leisure and Entertainment facilities, infrastructure and experiences. 3. Quality of Service and Safety - There is a need for assurance that all services provided by a member of AALARA is carried out to the highest standards of performance and safety. 4. Confidence - Users of facilities and services provided by AALARA members should be able to feel confident that there exists a framework of professional ethics and safety standards, which governs their activities, and the provision of services generally.

Members pledge to practice their profession according to the following code of ethics:

1. All members will operate and conduct business in a fair, honest and ethical fashion with any party subject to a business or stakeholder relationship and with all members of the public, employees or volunteers. Ethical behaviour is not simply compliance with the prevailing legal requirements; it extends to honesty, integrity and social responsibility in all dealings. It is behaviour that can proudly be held up to public disclosure and scrutiny.

10. In conducting their business members shall deliver high standards of service, safety and cleanliness to their guests and customers. Members should recognise that their business success is tied to the quality of experience and consistency of service and safety they provide. 11. Members shall conduct all ﬁnancial affairs fairly and with consideration of all contracts and commitments.

2. Members shall endeavour to avoid disseminating false or misleading information and shall not knowingly do so.

12. In the conduct of their business members will remember their community responsibility as an industry providing fun and recreation and will maintain an active role in helping those with more limited access to the services we provide. Members should strive to occupy a position of honour in their communities and spheres of inﬂuence, as we should as an association and industry collectively.

3. Members shall enter into all contracts and faithfully execute them and gain the respect of fellow operators, guests, customers, employees, suppliers, partners, authorities and the general public.

13. Members shall commit themselves to continuous selfimprovement and shall seek to constantly improve the level of professionalism, safety, service and cleanliness in our industry.

4. Members shall operate and conduct their business so as to comply with all applicable health and safety regulations. Members will carry all appropriate insurance and will hold all applicable approvals and consents.

14. Members acknowledge non-competition in the development of safety standards and that information pertinent to the positive development of safety and operational standards can be communicated without prejudice to any member.

5. In operating and promoting their business, members shall not unfairly or with prejudice, criticize another member’s method of conducting business or seek to unfairly damage the reputation of another operator so as to bring disrepute onto the industry or association.

15. No member shall conduct themselves in such a manner nor conduct business under any name, style or title that is, in the opinion of the board, prejudicial to the professional status of the industry or the reputation of the association.

6. Members shall hear all complaints made of their operation and will strive to correct and make good errors, omissions and poor service promptly and in good spirit. 7. Members shall seek to employ persons of good integrity and work ethic and shall compensate them fairly according to their individual skill and responsibility. 8. Members shall strive to provide training and operate in such a manner as to ensure prevention of physical and psychological harm to their employees. 9. Members shall endeavour to provide healthy surrounds, strong values and shall be alert to the needs, dignity, welfare and happiness of each employee.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER THIS CODE OF ETHICS General Member Responsibilities (Member Principals) – Member Principals accept a positive duty to observe the highest standards in their business practice and will promote the beneﬁts of good ethical practice in all their dealings; and will improve the general understanding of professional amusement and recreation industry ethics and practice. Member Principals undertake to observe this Code of Ethics, and any other article or amendment, which shall be incorporated into it. General Member Responsibilities (Member Employees) – Member employees should be asked to comply with this Code of Ethics and any additions required in the particular business as a condition of employment. Member principals understand that if they or an employee knowingly causes or permits an employee to act in a manner inconsistent with this Code that they are party to such action and shall then be deemed to be in breach of it.

RISK MANAGEMENT The Australian Amusement Leisure and Recreation Association’s industry best practice standards for the management and operation of businesses that provide amusement leisure and recreation services to the Australian community. This standard has been developed so that such businesses can at all times provide the best possible management, operation and duty of care to their clients, guests, visitors and staff. The Australian Amusement Leisure and Recreation Association Incorporated (“AALARA”) believes that all persons and legal entities that operate businesses and work in providing amusement, leisure and recreation facilities and services must uphold and actively utilize best practice standards established by the industry for the industry in the day to day operation of their businesses so as to fully meet their responsibilities to their staff, guests and clients. Such responsibilities will include meeting and exceeding the general expectation to provide an appropriate duty of care to all that enter, use, operate and

manage the facilities offered for use. AALARA as the Peak National Body representing operators in the amusement, leisure and recreation industries has, in March 2002, established and endorsed these best practice standards as being appropriate for, and considers that they should apply to, the operation of these industries in our modern society. AALARA has determined that such standards should be referred to from this point forward as Risk Management procedure. In establishing these procedures as the best practice standards that should apply to the amusement, leisure and recreation industries in Australia, AALARA herein recognizes that the management and operation of businesses and facilities that offer such services to the broader community must, of necessity be required to be conducted by utilizing management models, policies and practices that are at all times underscored by sound risk management practices and which form the basis of a whole of business approach to ensure the fulﬁllment of this charter.

CORNERSTONE ELEMENTS The following seven elements are considered to be the cornerstone foundation elements of Risk Management procedures.

The park has been constructed within an 11,000 square metre footprint, with its major attractions being Get Wet H20, a substantial waterplay structure comprising of numerous waterplay features and four waterslides, an interactive 18 hole miniature golf course, Jump Tramps above ground netted trampolines, 34 foot high Vertical Reality Jungle Mountain, a large turret Little Tykes Tiki Mountain KidZone area, incorporating a Tiki Island Inﬂatable and a Rio Grande Zamperla Kiddies Train. Adventure Waters is ideally placed to cater for the extra one million tourists the Aquis development is forecast to bring to Cairns and the region. It is anticipated that it will take a minimum of 12 to 14 months to construct the park now that Cairns Regional Council and EPA Courts have granted the Development Approval.
