They say there is a method in madness, but this award focuses on how companies have developed working methods to show greater efficiency or have seen a substantial improvement in profits as a result of new processes.
SYDNEY WATER CORPORATION The Delivery Management group (DM) is a strategic consortium formed between Sydney Water Corporation, Lendlease and John Holland to design and deliver infrastructure projects. The group has 200+ staff and 1500+ ‘in-flight’ projects. In 2018, DM completed an ambitious, innovative and comprehensive process improvement program that encapsulated several major process innovation projects. The projects include a new process-driven system-supported delivery framework, the HELIX Asset Creation Process, launched late in 2016 and significantly upgraded and optimised in 2017-18 in phase 2. Also launched in 2018 was a bespoke Management Operating System, consisting of structured tools to optimise operational/project delivery, maximise monitoring and control, enable data-driven analysis and continual improvement, enhance leadership support and management practices, and ensure a consistent operational approach that aligns with corporate goals.

TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION OF THE YEAR
Advanced technology is having an increasing influence on the construction industry, whether it is through the use of modeling software or the varying uses of virtual reality. This award acknowledges the important impact of technological innovations throughout the last year.
MERITON GROUP Meriton’s purpose for this project was to design and develop a new process to assist with the as-built documentation for the construction of Building 2A, an elliptical 22-storey building located at Carter Street, Lidcombe. Traditionally asbuilt documentation takes place on an ad-hoc basis by utilising construction documentation and hand mark-ups with traditional trigonometry survey input. Meriton conceptualised a method for AAM Group to trial pre-pour data gathering utilising autonomous means such as Photogrammetry (stitching multiple photos together to calculate the 3D position of an object) and 3D Laser Scanning. It is envisaged that Meriton’s proposed solution of continuous data gathering will assist with mitigating the impacts to programme, whilst providing a useful as-built model (+-10mm tolerance) to designers, consultants and end users such as building facility managers and body corporates.

SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR The industry relies on a number of stakeholders to keep projects moving. Supplier of the year is a company that provides quality, on time, every time.
MODDEX GROUP PTY LTD Moddex is an Australian-owned and operated family business that manufactures modular, no-weld handrails, guardrails, balustrades and barrier systems across Australia and New Zealand. Traditionally, barrier systems have been manufactured by measuring, shaping, cutting and welding components to create the barrier. This involved design, drafting and engineering, manufacture and onsite installation. The Moddex system comprises of proprietary, pre-engineered components that are delivered to the worksite and supplied with assembly instructions, and assembled using a simple, noweld construction method. This eliminates the need for specialist trades, hotwork permits, fire spotters and welding protection to finished surfaces, and advances conditions for installers by eliminating toxic fumes, welding in wet areas and fire risk hazards. Moddex systems can be adapted or extended with additional components or cut to size on-site.

SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION AWARD
Sustainability has become a key consideration for every construction project. This award recognises outstanding achievement and success in implementing a sustainable strategy during building projects.
THE FOOTPRINT COMPANY The Footprint Company is committed to radically reduce the carbon footprint of property by providing access to simple online life cycle tools, products and information, to make a difference. Australian retail operations account for about 41 per cent of total non-residential carbon emissions per annum and only occupy only 14 per cent of all floor area. In Baranargoo South, through the efforts of The Footprint Company and leadership of Lend Lease, enough energy has been saved each year to power 740 apartments, which is 95 per cent of the apartments in the Barangaroo precinct. Other leadership outcomes achieved includes 100 per cent compostable packaging across the precinct. These results demonstrate the economic and environmental value of retail energy efficiency and shows that substantial improvement in this and other sustainable practices is feasible.

MARKETING INITIATIVE OF THE YEAR
Marketing is an ever-evolving industry that can be both invigorating and challenging for any marketing team – how can your message be heard amid a cacophony of noise? This award celebrates an outstanding campaign for either a project or a company, from internal or external marketing teams.
SNAPLOADER An Australian PropTech company, Snaploader has developed its own custombuilt solutions for residential developments or commercial and industrial sales and leasing, to deliver realistic 3D models to any device without the need to download an app or a program. Snaploader’s 3D models provide a highly visual and interactive experience allowing a user to rotate, zoom and explore the property from any angle. Not everyone can interpret 2D floorplans, so customised plugins, like drag and drop furniture and 3D tours, solve these difficulties and enable users to better understand the property. Snaploader 3D models feature in property listings on Australia’s main real estate portals, and can be embedded in a website or shared via email and SMS.

REGENERATION PROJECT OF THE YEAR
Australian cities are evolving at a rapid rate, with major regeneration projects appearing all over the country. This award praises those who often have the challenging task of maintaining historical identity and context, whilst bringing it into the 21st century, in order to create lasting future communities.
MULTIPLEX AUSTRALASIA
Eastern elevation showing the heritage facade and clock tower
Multiplex’s restoration of Shell House has breathed new life into the historic Sydney landmark. The company faced complex challenges on the project including that the limited availability of structural documentation for the building required a comprehensive set of investigation works to determine the geometric and mechanical make-up of the building’s structure. Internal steelwork was installed before the structural demolition to restrain the existing façade to the external trusses. Most of the steel installation was required to be completed using chain and block methods and coordinated with detailed demolition. The clock tower transfer structure was also a complex process that required a concrete transfer structure to be formed and poured within the tight confines of the existing lift motor room to support the underside of the clock tower structure.

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN OF THE YEAR
Once in a while, the design of a building will extend beyond the realm of expectation, creating excitement, intrigue and awe. This award celebrates projects that have been designed to be sympathetic to the environment and surroundings, functional and innovative in style.
JOE ADSETT ARCHITECTS Joe Adsett is an architectural practice subscribing to a design philosophy of Subtropical Modernism – namely architecture that responds in a contemporary and timeless manner to the unique circumstances and environment of each site. The work to Clifftop House makes a meaningful contribution to innovation and excellence in environmental sustainability through the concrete structure which is used in a manner similar to “reverse” brick veneer construction. Concrete walls and ceilings are deliberately exposed where thermal mass is relied upon internally. The external cladding systems act as a rain screen to the concrete frame. The end result is a striking angular concrete structure, softened with timber detailing, perched high on the rocky cliffs of its suburban context.

The program provides leadership and management training including communication, negotiation and finance ensuring that participants are well placed to excel in any role in any organisation. Data collected from these programs, over the next three years will provide meaningful insights to government and inform future investment and focus.

VULNERABLE WOMEN PROJECT SUPPORTING WOMEN FROM DISADVANTAGED BACKGROUNDS INTO EMPLOYMENT AND BEYOND
ARE YOU PREPARED TO LOOK AT DIVERSITY-BASED RECRUITMENT IN A WHOLE NEW WAY? For many organisations, employing a diverse workforce is top of their agenda. But sadly, diversity-based recruitment often fails, with the candidate leaving within the first six months.
THE APPROACH
DLPA have partnered with key organisations to provide a structured program over 12 months, which supports both the individuals and their employers, in a way that significantly increases the chances of success. This includes sourcing the right candidate, coaching, counselling and upskilling for the candidate and support and education for the manager and the broader workforce. It also includes access to a community of people going through a similar experience.
THE RESULT Women who are from disadvantaged backgrounds come into the workforce and meaningfully contribute to the organisation and society. This is social and commercial. It’s ethical and sustainable recruitment with a dose of commercial reality.
