SUSTAINABILITY GOALS
2024 KEY GOALS AND ASPIRATIONS:
• Arktura’s goal is to create interior and exterior architectural products including lighting solutions with as little environmental impact as possible.
• We aspire to reduce our carbon footprint, increase product transparency , eliminate harmful ingredients, and improve upon established recycling practices in our production and office facilities.
CARBON NEUTRALITY:
• Carbon offsets have counterbalanced much of our carbon footprint since 2014
• Arktura offsets emissions through programs such as deforestation prevention in the Amazon via the:
RAW & RECYCLED MATERIALS:
• We work with suppliers to continue to increase percentages of recycled content used in the manufacturing of our product lines.
• We develop systems that use materials with a high proportion of recycled content, aiming for extended utilization of all materials, including shipping and crating utilizing excess Soft Sound® material to secure fragile shipments.
• We offer a Take Back Program for reusable shipping fixtures on several products.
• We are making progress to remove all Red List ingredients from our products and hardware. Currently 43% of our systems are Red List item free or LBC Red List Approved.
• All of our wood usage comes from SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) certified material and NAF (No-Added Formaldehyde) MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard).
Arktura designs sustainable systems with a passion for community and nature. Our goal is to continually reduce our environmental impact by using innovative and ecologically conscious ways of engaging with our surroundings. From materials to processes and beyond, we focus on creating a healthier built environment and planet.
MANUFACTURING PROCESSES:
• We employ Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to minimize waste and improve product sustainability.
• We recycle metal waste from our production line, including excess metal punched out of perforated panels, which are recycled and reintroduced into the product lifecycle
• Our operations have been consolidated into one building facility including offices and factory, allowing us to focus our sustainability efforts into one central HQ and minimize transportation of materials and staff.
• As of 2024 , we have brought our lighting design and components in-house, providing more energy efficient illumination options to our clients.
• Our standard products are designed to use raw materials efficiently, while our custom systems utilize nesting algorithms to optimize material usage for entire jobs.
GREEN ACCREDITATIONS*:
• We have released EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) for 83% of our systems, opening the opportunity for contribution to LEED and other nationally recognized building certification programs.
• 36% of Arktura systems have Declare labels available, which provide information on the manufacturer’s commitment to sustainability and the environment.
• We also publish HPD (Health Product Declaration) for 83% of our products on a shared access website for registered reps and end users.
• Our materials, products, and systems are listed in various materiality transparency databases, displaying material content, performance stats, and more. Including:
• We have made MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) available to view for installers.
• Our LEED and WELL summary sheets illustrate the contributions Arktura’s products can make to sustainability programs.
• Arktura’s VOC (Volatile organic compounds) testing reports are available for products with Soft Sound®, plastic backers, and metal panels. The majority of other Arktura products are inherently non emitting.
