Steinberg Hart partnered with Arktura to develop a backlit perforated facade as a feature design element of the Epiphany Hotel’s renovation. The design of the hotel focuses on sustainability through the application of all materials. As a result, Arktura manufactured powder-coated aluminum Graphic Perf® Photoreal Exterior panels and frosted polycarbonate backers to diffuse the arboreal image’s glowing illumination. The combination of materiality and its expression aids in capturing the spirit of Palo Alto - curious, optimistic, vital, and entrepreneurial.

GRAPHIC PERF ® PHOTOREAL
The Graphic Perf® Photoreal system begins with you and your image of choice. That image is then translated into a pattern, and we work our perforated magic to bring the vision to life.
The new Parkdale Recreation Center opened, featuring custom rain screens, designed by Carpenter Sellers Del Gatto, as a beacon for the neighborhood and was honored as an AIA Design Award Winner. Arktura’s Graphic Perf® exterior system was used to provide a warm welcome and homage to the surrounding community. The aluminum panels were designed and fabricated - down to each individual hole size and placement - to combine striking text within the facade’s artistic expressive character. The panel cladding combines beautifully with the salvaged wood and metal components reused in the new structure from the previous community center that was demolished for this project. The new center serves as a beacon and symbol for the community’s culture and recreational resources it provides.
The Graphic Perf® Scripted process uses patterns or designs as inspiration, and our software allows for a multitude of options to individually design each shape, perforation, and opening. Then our machines perforate these tileable grid compatible panels.
PERKINS + WILL TYSONS, VIRGINIA, USA
The renovation of 1676 International, Tysons Drive involved the transformation of the entrance from a heavy canopy to something that would be light and inviting. This was accomplished with a large tapered form that draws people inside. The form is also further emphasized and highlighted by a custom scripted gradient pattern of backlit perforations that transition to a solid relief pattern further in. The combination of the backlighting and the champagne color create a glowing entrance, particularly at night.
ESI Design reimagined interior lobby of 160 W Santa Clara, extends to the grand exterior entry with a Vapor® Graphic Perf® hybrid interior and exterior installation featuring RGB Backlighting that is programmed to cycle through illumination shows, both day and night. In a nod to both its location in Silicon Valley and the Santa Clara Valley, the custom perforations developed in concert with the Arktura Design team mimic the ones and zeroes of digital code and meander into organic patterns creating a coded map of the area’s waterways. The backlighting fades in and out of different gradients, providing movement and soothing spectral shifts that establish a welcoming, dynamic, and coveted character to visitors and tenants alike.

ABRAMSON ARCHITECTS
CULVER CITY, CALIFORNIA, USA
If the perfect solution for your next project isn’t available, build it yourself. This Solutions Studio® project bridges two distinct exterior styles; the building has a painted historic brick facade, alluding to this rustic look in the area, which transitions to a modern taste of the mechanized built environment, bringing this historic look to the future.
The project features a series of fully custom-made rolling metal panels spanning both the facade of the building and the open-air balconies. Some panels are set while others are mechanized, allowing range of motion. This movement is a key feature as it enables the finely crafted panels to protect against the glare of the ever-moving sun, helping control the internal temperature of the building.
By repositioning the layered screens, users can adjust light, shade, and privacy levels. These stunning panels provide a beautiful dappled light effect through design, quality, and durability throughout the space.
“It’s about understanding the city at a larger scale and seeing a way for that urban logic to fit into a building. I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 20 years. Maybe it just seeped in.

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA, USA
At the crossroad of the Third Street Promenade and Santa Monica Place, with Michael W. Folonis Architects and Arktura’s Solution Studio®’s guidance, Tesla developed a facade inspired by the namesake of the company, Nikola Tesla, and magnetic flux diagrams to wrap the exterior facade of their flagship auto showroom. Translating the inspired brief, Arktura utilized proprietary software to develop the complex curved custom exterior Graphic Perf® system into a synergetic graphic form to capture the relationship between magnetic flux and electron decay. The resulting facade is visually impactful and filters heat, sunlight, and serves as a rain shield while representing the electric propulsion’s linear energy release.
Collaboration is at the heart of every Solutions Studio® project, carefully applying your creative vision for a truly unique creation. Partnering with Arktura includes early collaborative creative sessions, coordination on manufacturing, and crucial engineering aspects down to the ultimate install.
STUDIO PALI FEKETE ARCHITECTS
SILVERLAKE, CALIFORNIA, USA
In 1926, oil tycoon Edward Petitfils, in true “California Style” commissioned Wallace Neff, iconic early 20th Century Architect, to design what would become the historical Ptetfils Residence. Almost a century later, the legacy renews as its new owners request a renovation by Studio Pali Fekete Architects to modernize the home. SPFA worked with the Secretary of the Interior to preserve the historic homes’ distinctive character and maintained its landmark designation while uniting the house with modern advances, technologies, materials, and insight. Arktura manufactured the Exterior Graphic Perf® screen facade that was part of the new additions in the preservation efforts. In support of the preservation, the perforation pattern mimics the “original home’s precast concrete window grilles.” The perforated bronze anodized aluminum panels open and close on hinges, providing the homeworner with clear views, intimate privacy, and sun-shielding options. Now named the Morgan Phoa Library & Residence, the project has garnered awards in preservation, restoration, and adaptive reuse for SPFA.

GRAPHITE DESIGN GROUP SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, USA
Arktura, in collaboration with Graphite Design and Tbar Construction, employed innovative, thoughtful approaches to design, manufacturing, and installation to make this unique custom ceiling system in the heart of downtown Seattle, Washington a reality. The feature ceiling serves as the key welcoming attraction to a massive new two-story-high tech company campus finalized in 2019. Extending approximately 8,600 square feet of interior and exterior areas, this custom ceiling takes its cues from nature, with a design directly inpired by the swarming flight patterns of birds. These murmurations were translated into nearly 3,500 “Pixels,” elegant powder-coated aluminum subpanels that use only bent angles and underlying color gradations to evoke a dynamic feeling of movement through a static system. Pixels modularly connect to larger torsion panels, some hoisted several stories high. Enhancing both the visual richness and complexity of execution of the ceiling are the system’s integrated lights. These add to the ceiling’s dynamic feelings of movement in the nighttime, accentuating the angles of Pixels and colors of their underlying panels, and adding a layer of depth to the entire system, through their interplay of light and shadow. the end result is a unique experience that reinterprets Pacific Northwestern fondness of nature through an innovative, tech inspired lens.
From brand identity to local history, nature, and culture, our Solutions Studio® is ready to integrate the proper elements for your next facade or rain shield.
