rlington area residents like the deli sandwich – that’s a given. But, if our annual poll is any indication, what they LOVE is a deli sandwich from Dino’s Subs. This is the second straight year Dino’s has reigned as the readers’ choice. And why not? Dino’s has been an Arlington institution since 1980, serving fresh, delicious sandwiches that one customer recently called “not only the best in town – the best I’ve ever eaten.” Owner Jade Dino, who began operating the restaurant after the passing of its founder, her father Larry Dino, says she simply carries on his tradition. “He said there’s one key to success in the restaurant business: ‘never, ever, go down on quality,” Jade recalls. As our readers have noted, Jade is a good listener.

or the second time in as many years, Café Sicilia finds itself standing in the winner’s circle following our readers’ choice poll – this time as the best place for lunch. Their combined experience, teamed with excellent food and a stellar staff that is devoted to providing outstanding service, has quickly made Café Sicilia one of the area’s more popular eateries. “Café Sicilia is exactly what we set out to accomplish,” says Nogueira. “It’s a place where you can enjoy a well-prepared, homemade Italian meal. In the four years Arlington Today magazine has conducted its All Star Readers’ Choice awards, Piccolo Mondo has garnered a top spot in at least one category all four times. Capaccioli says the popular eatery actually does several things right – most notably the delicious Italian cuisine. “We’re more traditional in style,” he says. “I traveled a lot when I was younger, and when I found something I like to eat, I took note. When we opened here, we offered things I liked to eat myself.” Add alluring ambience, a popular piano bar and a banquet room that is ideal for big groups, and you wind up with ... well ... an All Star restaurant that customers love.

Appropriately, our readers have joined in the celebration by tabbing the popular restaurant as this year’s winner in the Sports Bar category. While it is a “go to” place for watching sports of all sorts – there’s always a game or several on the televisions scattered about the place – J. Gilligan’s is also party headquarters for renions, birthdays, charity functions, political events, holiday parties, youth sports clubs, wedding events, business lunches and meetings and ... well, pretty much any kind of gathering that calls for a friendly place with good food and service. Also, diners and party-goers can enjoy live music from March through October on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and on Sunday afternoons. Our readers obviously were impressed, as they gave the practice the nod in this category, the first time Atlas Vein Care has been an Arlington area All Star. “We are not dabblers,” says Dr. Eidson. “Our passion and dedication is to the evaluation and treatment of all things related to vein problems in the legs from the purely cosmetic to the medically significant. We also take the time to educate our patients and fellow medical professionals on the negative effects vein problems can have on your quality of life if left untreated.” Dr. Eidson notes that vein problems can cause a wide range of symptoms and that they are much more than just varicose and spider veins. As a double board-certified physician holding cer-

He is certified through the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine and the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians, successfully completing rigorous training and comprehensive testing in each medical specialty. He has performed thousands of successful procedures over the course of his career. “Our goal is to help improve your quality of life,” he says. “Most patients are surprised to find that treatments are easier than they initially thought. Treatment options now are virtually painless, performed in-office, and typically take between 30-60 minutes. There is little to no down time after treatment, and patients are up and walking immediately after.” Dr. Eidson says his team offers a promise to each patient who is affected by vein issues: You will always be evaluated and treated by a doctor certified to treat vein disease. A grateful Dr. Fell says one of the things about which she and Dr. Robbins are most proud is the fact that their patients have noted that they will go the extra mile to help their patients address hearing issues. “We use specialized equipment and procedures to accurately test for hearing loss,” she says. “We can advise patients if hearing aids are recommended and provide the necessary hearing aid fitting services. It is important to remember that hearing aids alone are seldom the answer to hearing problems. and infants care. The comprehensive nature of available services, plus the quality of doctors, nurses and support staff, have elevated Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital to a level of distinction that routinely garners the medical center national acclaim. Texas Health Arlington Memorial is ranked among the best hospitals in Dallas-Fort Worth by U.S. News & World Report, and the hospital has received the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Fragility Fracture Certification, the first health care facility in the country to receive Joint Commission certification for a fragility fracture program. It is also designated as a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, an honor that recognizes hospitals for excellence in nursing, and was the first facility in Arlington to earn the designation. Texas Health Arlington Memorial is 369-bed, acute-care hospital conveniently located at the corner of Randol Mill Road and Cooper Street in North Arlington.
But new equipment and technology are only half the story. Methodist Mansfield is part of Mayo Clinic Care Network, which gives patients access to world-class care close to home. “Our priority is providing exceptional patient care,” says John Phillips, FACHE, president, Methodist Mansfield. “We are proud to be recognized with outstanding safety scores, and we consistently outperform other hospitals in key quality measures. Our neighbors deserve a hospital that is committed to their health and quality of life, and we strive to be that hospital.” Methodist Mansfield has also received the highest rating possible by Leapfrog, the independent hospital watchdog. The hospital safety score is the gold standard rating for patient care. And recently, the hospital achieved the Pathway to Excellence designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), given to health care organizations that create work environments in which nurses can flourish and substantiates the professional satisfaction of nurses working at the facility. An economic engine for the area, Methodist Mansfield generated $123M to the local economy in 2016 and created 2,384 jobs in Tarrant County.

Dr. DiStefano says he is proud of the direction Arlington Cancer Center took then – and takes today. “Over the years, we have stayed true to that principle,” he says. “Our dedication to providing the broadest range of services, in combination with compassionate patient-oriented care, allows us to give our patients the best chance of assessing the best care available while remaining

Together, they offer more than 150 years of combined research, teaching and practical experience in treating solid tumors, blood cancers and blood disorders at some of the premier national and international cancer centers and medical schools. these vision problems is to reshape the eye, allowing light to be properly focused. That is where LASIK surgery comes in. When your cornea (the surface of your eye) is not focusing light appropriately onto your retina, you have blurred vision. The practice’s LASIK surgeons, Drs. Kleiman, Evangelista, Kelly Frasier and Loan Ramsey, use the latest, most advanced laser technology – including the WaveLight EX500 and ViSX CustomVue Star S4 lasers – to correct the focal point of your cornea by reshaping the corneal surface. Kleiman|Evangelista Eye Center has enjoyed phenomenal success since it opened its doors more than 30 years ago. Its reputation as a leader in the world of ophthalmology – specifically LASIK vision correction – is second to none. And this summer, the practice is offering a KE Be Free to See Summer LASIK Package, with LASIK for as low as $3 a day, plus passes to a water park, zoo, laser tag, trampoline park and more. Thousands of patients, then the offspring of many of those patients, have turned to the Alexanders to help them acquire a better smile. Many of both groups are saying thanks this year by helping the practice earn its fourth All Star award. Moody has definitely made his mark to follow that of his father. He and his team specialize in orthodontics for children, teens, and adults, making them uniquely able to care for patients of all ages. But there’s more to this office than just the matter of straightening crooked teeth. “Our practice offers a relaxed, friendly, open environment where patients and their parents are encouraged to get involved in their treatment,” Moody says. The team at Drs. Alexander Orthodontics also will get to know each patient personally to help make visits more comfortable.

“We understand the anxiety that patients may feel before their treatment,” Moody says. “And we make it our top priority to ensure the patient’s comfort before starting any procedure.” But there’s another facet to this practice that makes it special: its yearning to give back, not just to the community but to the world. Moody takes regular mission trips to impoverished areas such as Ethiopia to provide dental care to the locals. He also developed the wooden nickel program, giving wooden nickels to reward good patients, who save them to earn fun prizes then donate the cash value of their earned nickels to help others in need around the world. “We realize the incredible blessings that we have in our lives and try to live by the passage from Luke that says ‘to whom much is given, much is required,’” Moody says. His patients – our readers – clearly appreciate the gesture.

t is pretty much a given that when the All Stars are named each August, River Legacy Park will be on the roster. This is the fourth time the majestic city treasure has been deemed our readers’ favorite natural retreat. And who could argue against something that offers the beauty of the wilderness with open spaces for your favorite pastime – pretty much whatever that might be? From botany to bicycling or rollerblading to strolls through the woods, this 1,300-acre public park has something for everyone. The park’s ecological diversity of bottomland forest, wetlands and prairie provides abundant habitat for countless wildlife and native plants. And then there are amenities, such as trails, picnic areas, river overlooks, canoe launches and more.
rom the moment the idea people conceptualized a summer full of free music under the stars, the Levitt Pavilion earned a spot among Arlington’s best ideas. Ever. So it should come as little shock, then, that the city’s crown jewel music venue is earning ink as a 2017 All Star. From new musicians on the rise to established headliners who are known worldwide, the performers on the Levitt stage have consistently done what concert lovers crave most: deliver compelling music while providing memorable entertainment. Therefore, it’s only appropriate that the management team and staff at the Levitt get to do something they usually see others do: take a bow.

omet Cleaners has locations both hither and yon – including a yon in another country – but it’s the hither that is the real story behind this consistent All Star. Now, nine-decades-plus later, Comet Cleaners operates more than 185 locations internationally, including seven Arlington area facilities, all of which continue to live up to the legacy of service and quality Godfrey established during the company’s genesis.

Owner Phil Sellars is an Arlington native who has devoted nearly five decades to helping make the community better. One way he does that is through offering quality work and friendly service to all of Oaks Cleaners’ customers. “It is about being your neighbor and friend,” he says. “It’s about being a place where they know your name. It is friends dropping by to catch up or talk about their beloved Rangers. You may be dropping off or picking up your dry cleaning, but this is something more. We are not just another business. ansfield Custom Homes builds dreams from the ground up. Apparently, a lot of those dreams are coming true for readers – they selected the construction company as an All Star for the second year in a row. “Mansfield Custom Homes is truly a custom builder,” says Julie Short, the real estate specialist at the company. “Start with your dream, and the MCH team will make it your address.” Short says she and her team led by owner Stony Short will work with each customer during every step of the process. The design team helps you choose stylish finishes, the real estate team helps find the ideal location, and the construction team does the rest.
he Hall name has been associated with roofing in North Texas and the Dallas-Fort Worth area for nearly 30 years. It also has been associated with Arlington Today readers’ choice awards each of the past two. Joe Hall, the family and business patriarch, started Joe Hall Roofing in 1989. He eventually sold the company to son Brett, who has continued a tradition of honesty and integrity – and of crafting quality roofs throughout the area. “Our name and the quality of our work are backed by five generations of Hall family members, all of whom have been builders and contractors,” Brett says. “Our longevity in this industry and continuous growth is the product of our commitment to our customers and our passion for the business.”

While RJ Construction jobs span just beyond the borders of Fort Worth and Dallas and include all the communities in between, it is Arlington that holds the special place in his heart. or the the third year in a row, Don Davis Auto Group has been named the readers’ choice All Star winner in the Auto Dealership category. There are many reasons for the company’s popularity, not the least of which is the fact that Don Davis Auto Group has been in Arlington for more than 35 years, offering quality cars of many makes and models, including Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Ram, Ford, Lincoln and Nissan. The dealership has long been recognized for its commitment to excellent customer service – regardless of the vehicle that buyers drive out of the lot. In addition to selling new cars, Don Davis Auto Group offers an incredible selection of pre-owned vehicles at each location. To whet the appetite of local would-be car buyers, Don Davis Auto Group holds an annual “Garage Sale” – and has held it each and every year for 28 years in a row. It is the company’s biggest promotional event of the year.
F
Additionally, the dealership is active in the community as a long-time supporter of WFAA’s Santa’s Helpers Toy Drive. It holds an annual “Drive-through” each year, which has contributed thousands of toys distributed through Mission Arlington. To give you another idea why Don Davis Auto Group is the readers’ choice, consider this recent review: “My sales guy was not only extremely helpful, but he truly seemed to be as excited about my Jeep as I was. Whenever a question came up that he couldn’t answer, there was no shortage of help from any one of the other guys in the showroom. The experience then extended to the parts and service department where they beat the prices for products and service elsewhere, and covered the parts under my Mopar warranty.”

The staff at Texas Trust knows its members as friends, neighbors, and business leaders – and has treated them as such for more than eight decades. The sense of community that defines every dealing with Texas Trust has spawned many fans in the community. In fact, this is the second straight year the institution has earned an All Star award in our readers’ choice poll. So, what sets Texas Trust apart? Consider its focus on local education. In 2011, the credit union launched a program to give back to area students. (And, yes, you can get a card with your favorite local high school on it). Because brighter financial futures begin with a little incentive, Texas Trust management believes its members deserve to be rewarded, too. That’s the thinking behind the Checking20 account, initiated in 2015, which enables eligible members to receive up to $20 in bonuses each month by simply doing the things we all do: financing a vehicle, shopping with a credit card, and buying a home. As of March 2017, the credit union had given $924,777 back to its members, and now the countdown is on as Texas Trust gets ready to celebrate another $1,000,000 milestone. Texas Trust has grown into a network of neighborhood branches with assets worth over one billion dollars. Despite its phenomenal growth, it still maintains the spirit of a member-owned, personal finance cooperative with the same smalltown, friendly service offered to members since the doors first opened in 1936.
