Finding the perfect watch While it can be one of the most perfect gifts, finding the ideal watch can be a little daunting.

T

here’s more to choose from than ever before, with digital, analog, sports, work, and smart watches all options to be considered. This means that buying a watch isn’t something that you should quickly do in your lunch break. But if you are looking for a good quality watch, there are a few tips that can help you along the way. Firstly, as previously mentioned, don’t buy a watch on impulse. Like most things, fads come and go, and that fake, bedazzled purple crocodile skin watchband will most likely not be fashionable in the next six months. Keep in mind that classics never go out of style, so keep it simple with something that will look amazing with corporate wear but will also suit a jeans and T-shirt look on the weekend. Take your time, do some research (like subtly sussing out what styles your gift-ee likes), and work out what and where the watch will be for. Do they need a watch for work or for sport? Would they prefer an analog watch or a digital watch?

Are they after silver, gold, platinum, steel or if their skin reacts to metal, maybe plastic? Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there that sell fake watches. While it’s a smart idea to look for a watch with your budget in mind, make sure you’re buying from a reliable dealer or perhaps a department store or jeweller with a distinguished reputation. On the same page, it’s more often than not a better choice to go for a brand that is well known in the watchmaking industry. With a longer history comes experience and trials, and due to their popularity, brand names are usually far easier to repair. That leads to another thing you should keep in mind when you’re

buying a watch — servicing and repairs. If the watch can’t be fixed in a generic store and needs to be sent back to the brand itself, having a watch from an overseas trader can be an expensive exercise. While searching for a watch, size really does matter, so take this element into consideration. If the person you’re buying for has small wrists, a 34mm-40mm face would be the best option. However, if they’re a bigger man, you can go up to 46mm. All in all, buying a good quality watch should be a fun and exciting experience. It’s nice to have striking accessories, in the same sense that it’s lovely to have beautiful jewellery.

Christmas Daiquiris When you think of Christmas ‘beveraginos’ you probably think mulled wine and hot chocolates – but celebrating Christmas in summer means we normally want to swap out the steam for a chilled drink instead. Daiquiris are the perfect choice for us Aussies and are great for both adults and kids alike; depending on how it’s made. Here’s three of our favourite daiquiris to make – for a mocktail that the kids can enjoy too, simply don’t add in the alcoholic ingredients to create a fruity slushie! MANGO DAIQUIRI INGREDIENTS 6 mangoes, peeled, chopped 1 1/2 cups white rum 1 1/2 cups vodka 6 lemons, juiced 1 cup sugar syrup* 6 cups crushed ice

STRAWBERRY DAIQUIRI INGREDIENTS 2 1/2 cups of white rum 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice 500g strawberries, ripe or frozen Sugar syrup to taste* 6 cups crushed ice

PINEAPPLE DAIQUIRI INGREDIENTS 1 1/2 cups (375ml) pineapple juice 1 cup white rum 1/2 cup Cointreau or Triple Sec 1/2 cup (125ml) lime juice Ice cubes

METHOD STEP 1: Throw everything except the ice into a blender and blitz until well mixed STEP 2: Add ice, and blitz again until just combined, then pour into a chilled margarita glass and serve. Makes six.

SUGAR SYRUP: For sugar syrup, combine 1 1/2 cups caster sugar and 1 1/2 cups water in a saucepan over medium heat for 5 minutes or until sugar dissolves. Refrigerate until cold. Makes 2 cups.

Save money over Christmas

W

ithout alarming you, it’s only four Fridays until Christmas Day. It’s come around pretty quickly, even considering the rubbish year that has been 2020. The mere idea of pulling out the credit card and forking out for all of those Christmas expenses is enough to make anyone shudder — particularly if you haven’t planned for it. Here are a few tips as to how you can make your wallet a little heavier this silly season: DON’T LEAVE IT ALL UNTIL DECEMBER Yes, it’s pretty close to December already, but it’s still November nonetheless. By planning your Christmas shopping, you’ll be able to grab presents at good prices and have it spread out over a period of time so you’re not putting additional pressure on your budget for those last two weeks prior to Christmas. SET A PER PERSON BUDGET FOR PRESENTS Buying presents can often be the most expensive part of the holiday season, so it’s worth sitting down, making a budget as to how much you can spend per person, and sticking to it. Having a mountain of debt for presents isn’t going to be beneficial in the long run, so try to follow a basic budget — it will be worth it in the long run. ADULTS DON’T NEED PRESENTS It’s okay to get presents for the adults closest to you, but it might be

worth talking to your family to see if you can come to an agreement where you all buy presents for the children but not each other. If you have a big family, this can save you a lot of money.

For many parents, if you offer them a month of free babysitting, they’ll be eternally grateful. If you’re buying presents for older members of the family, making them a meal and freezing the leftovers would make their life a lot easier.

TRY TO AVOID USING THE CREDIT CARD Credit cards can make it easy to spend a lot of money quickly. If you have an EFTPOS card, put a set amount of money on there and spend only that. Otherwise, draw out cash and put your card away. HAVE A LIST Much like buying your groceries, without a list you can easily end up buying things that you really don’t need or just aren’t right. Take your time doing some research online to find something suited to each person on your gift list and write it down before venturing to the shops. OFFER YOUR HELP RATHER THAN A GIFT For many, being able to help out rather than giving a physical present is much better.

GET EVERYONE TO BRING A PLATE One of the most expensive parts of Christmas is putting on Christmas lunch or dinner. Ask your friends and family to each bring a plate and to supply their own drinks. SHOP SAVVY In terms of finding specials, don’t throw away the junk catalogues you get in the post and see what they have. It’s important to support local businesses and by keeping an eye on specials around town, you can save money and give back to the community over Christmas. Many places will also have coupons you can redeem over Christmas, so keep these tucked away and save yourself some dollars this silly season.

Treat the kids Without following the latest trends in toys and gadgets when you go Christmas shopping, it can be difficult knowing what to get your children for the holiday season.

I

f you have children, then you probably know the pain of stepping barefoot on Lego. So while this constructive toy seems to gather increasing popularity, it may not be on your list for top toys to get the kids for birthdays or to collect early for Christmas. Here are a few of the many other toys that should be a hit with your children. GAMES Encourage the kids to play together, have friends over, or play with them. Traditional games like Twister, Jenga and Uno are always fun, but there are heaps of new games on the market. Dohdles — kind of like Pictionary, but with playdough. Pie Face — this simple game of chance is full of laughter and suspense to see who will get a face full of whipped cream. Sapiens — a more complex, fun caveman-themed offshoot of dominoes. Tetris Jenga — a traditional favourite reinvented, this game is made extra hard since the pieces are all different shapes like Tetris. Story Mixer — if you can’t quite break away from Lego, this game is for you with a combination of building and storytelling.

ECO-FRIENDLY TOYS Not only are these toys good for the environment, they’re safe for your children too. You can get many cute 100 per cent recycled plastic toys, natural rubber toys or wooden toys. Wooden toys have come a fair way from the days of trucks and musical instruments, such as ‘cuttable’ wooden food and tool sets. There are also many toys available made out of soft materials, like felted fairy houses or plushy sandwiches and fruit, and some manufacturers use environmentally friendly dyes as well. EDUCATIONAL TOYS Playthings are always an extra win if they teach the child something. The obvious are pretend play sets, toy kitchens, toolbenches and the

like, as well as constructing toys like Meccano, K’Nex and Lego. Or you could go way out and give the kids a taste of realism with a working toy oven or sewing machine. TOYS ON THE GO Avoid tedious trips and make your kid happy by giving him a travel or gimmicky game for his birthday. Travel puzzles — go traditional with sorting compartments and a non-skid tray in the puzzle box, or get a small maze ball or find-it tube instead. Arcade games — miniature battery-operated arcade consoles with a variety of retro arcade games built-in. Desktop games — table tennis with a net that clips to any table, small basketball sets, or finger football sets are just some of the options.

Perfect pavlova We’ve found the perfect pavlova meringue recipe for you to use this festive season. Christmas classics like pavlova are a fresh summer favourite for many at family functions. It’s also a good break from Christmas puddings, chocolates and other sweets. Remember, there are no rules to follow when topping the fruity desert, but a few popular favourites include: blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, Kiwi fruit, passionfruit, peaches and nectarines. INGREDIENTS 6 egg whites, at room temperature Pinch of salt 1 1/2 cups (330g) caster sugar 3 teaspoons cornflour 1 teaspoon white vinegar 1 teaspoon vanilla essence 300ml thickened cream Seasonal fresh fruit, to serve

METHOD: STEP 1: Preheat oven to 150°C. Line a baking tray with some non-stick baking paper. Draw a 20cm circle on the paper, and place on the tray, circle side down. STEP 2: Use an electric mixer to whisk egg whites and salt until soft peaks form. Add sugar, 1/2 cup at a time, whisking for one minute after each addition. Once all the sugar has been added, continue to whisk on high for

three minutes. STEP 3: Combine cornflour, vinegar and vanilla essence. Add to meringue and whisk until just combined. STEP 4: Use a spatula to spread meringue over the circle, smoothing the surface and sides. Reduce the oven temperature to 120°C. Bake for 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes – the pavlova should be dry to the touch. Turn off the oven and leave to cool completely. STEP 5: Whip cream until thick. Spoon onto pavlova and decorate with fresh fruit of your choice. Cut into wedges to serve.

Christmas gifts for blokes Men can be chronically hard to buy gifts for, but it doesn’t always have to be so.

Y

ou don’t even have to break the bank spending money, nor do you need to break your back helping your kids make something for their dad or grandfather. Some men prefer more practical things, whereas some men like things inspired by fun. Here are some present ideas for the men in your life. A FRAMED PAINTING OR DRAWING FROM THE KIDS This is a beautiful present for Dad to proudly display on his office desk. A CAR CLEANING KIT This one works for you as well — there’s a present taken care of with some cleaning wrangled in.

that your man would probably love to read. DRINKING STONES These are some seriously groovy drink chillers. Don’t bother with ice cubes — grab a set of whiskey stones that keep your drink cold without watering it down like ice does.

BARBECUE ITEMS There’s a vast variety of things you can get relating to a barbecue, from cleaners, additions to the barbecue or a barbecue itself.

EXPERIENCES A present rarely gets more different than this, and if budget isn’t an issue for you, the possibilities are practically endless. Some ideas include sailing an old ship, parasailing, hot air ballooning, a helicopter flight, brewing your own beer, or a V8 race car drive.

A BOOK How about a really great book? There’s some great biographies around

Enjoying cool fun during water conservation periods Running under the sprinker and the like might be off the table this summer, but that doesn’t mean water fun is completely impossible - you just need to be wise with how you do it.

I

t is so important to stay hydrated and relatively cool on these hot summer days Australia is well-known for, but water conservation is important with the drought, and taking the family to the local public pool each day can get expensive. Keep the children occupied on hot weekends and during the Christmas holidays with these ideas for backyard water play that won’t break the bank or use copious amounts of water. SPONGE BALL FIGHT Water balloons can be a bit hard-hitting for littlies, so opt for these softer (and faster to prepare as well as more water conserving) sponge balls instead. Simply cut cheap colourful sponges into strips, then tie about five strips together tightly so they splay outwards to make each ball. Then fill up a couple of buckets with water, throw in the sponge balls and let the water fight begin!

WATER SLIDE You can easily spend hundreds of dollars on water slides or inflatable water toys, but they usually require constantly running water – plus, if you’re not going to use it that regularly, why not make your own? Clear the grass of any sticks and rocks and spread out a big tarp. Squirt some dish-washing liquid on the tarp and chuck some buckets of water over it. Mix the water and dish-washing liquid together by walking over the tarp, but be careful not to slip! SQUIRT RACES Poke a hole in the bottom of a plastic cup and thread onto some string, then tie each end of the string to a tree or pole. Use squirt guns to race the plastic cup down the line faster than your opponent. Another squirt gun race can be done using toy cars on the driveway or pavement. FROZEN T-SHIRT GAME Sounds like a strange concept, but this game keeps players cool and having fun. Get a couple of old T-shirts, wet them and stick them in the freezer overnight. Grab the frozen T-shirts out during the heat of the day and let your

children race against each other to put them on. OLD-FASHIONED FUN You may or may not have the luxury of having a full, running creek in your backyard but there are still plenty around. Visit some safe creeks and hang up a tire to swing from, or go all-out ‘Tarzan’ style and just use a rope! While playing outdoors, don’t forget to be sun safe! Wear a hat and plenty of sunscreen, and try to stay in the shade during the hottest hours.

How to shop for all your friends and family this Christmas

I

t’s the most wonderful time of the year — or so they say. Christmas spirit is everywhere, lights are twinkling around town and many lucky people are preparing to go on holidays. But for the busy or unorganised people, now is about the time when panic starts to set in due to a complete lack of ideas as to what to get your loved ones. If you class yourself as one of these people who enjoy living life on the edge by leaving things to the last minute, fear not — Toowoomba has a great selection of stores filled with fantastic ideas that are sure to be winners. But before you venture among the hoards of shoppers, think about who you’re buying for to give yourself some general direction and avoid staring helplessly at the thousands of products on offer. Think about your loved ones’ interests and whether they’re the kind of person who likes to be given things they want over things they need (Note: most people buy the things they need straight away, so choosing those stunning diamond earrings over a new vacuum cleaner is probably a smarter option to guarantee happiness). If you’re shopping for someone you know to be a huge fan of a particular television series, why not buy them a box set of the show’s seasons? A book worm of course is likely to enjoy a good book as a gift, but it

can be hard to know what ones they already have. Avoid disappointment by getting them a voucher for somewhere like Dymocks or QBD, or perhaps an e-reader from JB Hi-Fi might be the ticket. In this day and age, technology is often a safe bet but it can be expensive, so you want to be certain you’re onto a winner. Keep a mental checklist of any gadgets your technology-loving friend or family member already has, or if you’re uncertain, subtley prompt them in a casual conversation as to what is at the top of their wish list. Whether it’s a new television, a tablet, a laptop, a phone, a gaming console, or some other new product that’s taking the world by storm, Harvey Norman Electrical Toowoomba will have every need and budget covered. Also take into account their hobbies or favourite indulgences. If they love cooking, the Thermomix is hugely popular, or if they appreciate a good cup of coffee, opt for a quality coffee machine so they can enjoy one anytime they like. For those that appreciate sentimental value, Central Jewellers has a selection of stunning men’s and women’s jewellery that will put a glint in that special someone’s eye, while if you’re looking for the perfect gift for someone you know is planning

on travelling, Myer Toowoomba has a great selection of classy, and more importantly sturdy luggage. If you’re buying for children, there is a large variety of things available. However, it is important to be cautious in terms of health and safety hazards, particularly if you’re buying for younger children. With the warm weather in abundance, it can be a great idea to give your children presents that they can play outside, or sports equipment. Backyard cricket is always a great activity for outdoors, or perhaps a blow-up pool for your kids to play around in. A large variety of sporting equipment is available at Rebel Sport and Kmart to keep your children busy this summer. Put some thought into it and that way, whatever you choose to give is sure to place you in good stead, so start planning your shopping list to ensure your Christmas presents put Santa to shame.

Keeping food fresh It’s the silly season and our fridges are full to bursting with all kinds of goodies. But do you find yourself at war with mould and bacteria in or on your food?

W

hile it’s all well and good to buy fresh food, it does go off a lot faster than its refined and processed cousins. Win the battle against time and bacteria with these tips.

REFRIGERATING Not all consumables enjoy being refrigerated, while others keep longer if they are. Bread — it is popular opinion that bread stays fresh longer if kept in the fridge, but this is untrue. Because your fridge sucks moisture out of food, bread is likely to go stale faster. Berries — half the battle for keeping food fresh seems to be with storing berries alone. Kill off all the mould and bacteria by washing berries in water and a little vinegar before refrigerating. Salad greens and other veggies — how many times have you gone to make a salad, only to find a sad-looking, soggy lettuce? To avoid this happening, and other issues like it — such as slimy cucumbers — line

your crisper draw with paper towel to absorb excess moisture. FREEZING While there are many foods that are well-known for being suitable for freezing, there are others less-known. Eggs — while it would be nonsensical to freeze these whole, you can mix the egg white and yolk together and freeze in ice cube trays. Otherwise, egg white alone freezes very well in plastic freezer bags. Milk — this freezes very well and takes a while to defrost, so make sure you take this into account when you need a new bottle. If the cream content is high, pour a little milk out before freezing so the bottle doesn’t burst as it expands. Butter and cheese — as strange as it seems, butter and blocks of cheese can be frozen as well. As for milk, allow plenty of time for de-

frosting. Nuts — use a plastic freezer bag or air tight container to freeze either shelled or unshelled. Certain fruit and vegetables — tomatoes and bananas can be frozen whole, while apples can be whole or chopped and peeled or unpeeled. Celery can be flash-frozen and many other vegetables are suitable if blanched first. OTHER STORAGE There are many other storage suggestions, but here are just a couple. Keeping fresh — store asparagus and herbs in a glass of water as if they were a bunch of flowers. Ripening — wrap the stalks of bananas to stop them ripening so fast, as this stops the majority of gas seeping out. Store apples away from other food because of the gas as well.

Planning your next party This year is a tad difference to those past when it comes to sorting out a gathering

T

heweather is warming up and the holiday season almost upon us. Weddings, parties and other functions are very popular at this time of year, with the warmth making outdoor events

ideal. The brilliant part is, you can be as relaxed or as organised as you wish when hosting a party or event – just make sure you follow COVID-19 restrictions for gatherings and social distancing. Here is a brief guide on sorting out your next social gathering. VENUE The first item you want to cross off your list is where to host your event, and what amount of people the venue is allowed. There are many parks in Toowoomba which are perfect for a party. You can be casual with a picnic-style event or ramp it up by taking pop-up gazebos and tables. Then, of course, there is always your own backyard. Regardless of whether you have an undercover seating area or just a grassed yard, hosting parties at home are easier since you can just bring

food from kitchen to outside. No lugging eskies required. SEATING This goes hand-in-hand with the venue. If you are hosting your event at a park, keep in mind what seating is already available, and if it caters for social distancing. Make sure you consider other options in case all the seats are already taken by the time you arrive to set up. Asking guests to bring their own camp chairs is always a good option. FOOD Probably the most important part of a party or other function is the food. Plan your menu early and make as much in advance as you can to

avoid stress on the day. This is particularly important if you are hosting a larger event or have more than a handful of guests. If having your event away from home, keep in mind options for keeping food cool or hot as required. There are many cookbooks available with ideas on picnic-suitable food that is more fancy than watermelon and cheerios. Don’t forget to cater for any allergies or food intolerances when planning your menu. CLOTHING Last, but certainly not least, is what you wear on the day. Planning your outfit in advance is a great idea so you can focus on last-minute preparations on the day. Finally, relax and enjoy your time with guests.

Christmas ham with a rhubarb ginger glaze INGREDIENTS 1 cup white sugar 3/4 cup Italian red wine vinegar 4cm piece (20g) fresh ginger, peeled, thinly sliced 2 cinnamon sticks 2 whole star anise 3 rosemary sprigs 340g fresh rhubarb, trimmed, cut into 1.5cm thick slices One 4-5.5kg Gray’s Modern Meats’ half leg ham METHOD STEP 1. To make the rhubarb-ginger glaze and relish, sprinkle the sugar over the bottom of a heavy frying pan at medium heat. Cook without stirring for about nine minutes, or until the sugar melts and turns a deep golden brown. As the sugar browns, tilt frying pan to distribute melted sugar, but do not stir. STEP 2. Gradually add the vinegar (the mixture will harden). Stir until the caramel begins to melt, about one minute. Add the ginger, cinnamon, star anise, and one rosemary sprig and

stir for two minutes, or until the caramel is mostly melted. Add the rhubarb and 1/4 cup of water and cook for 10 minutes, or until the mixture is jammy. STEP 3. Meanwhile, to prepare the ham, position the oven rack on the bottom rung of the oven and preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan-forced). STEP 4. Place the remaining two rosemary sprigs in the base of turkey roaster pan, then set the roasting rack in the pan. Remove the skin from the ham, leaving the fat intact. Run a small dull knife over the fat to lightly score it all over. Place the ham on the rack in the roasting pan, cover, and bake for about one hour and 10 minutes, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the ham registers 40°C. STEP 5. Brush the ham with liquid from the rhubarb relish. Continue to bake, uncovered, for another 25 minutes, brushing the ham with rhubarb liquid every five minutes. The liquid should form a glaze over the ham and the ham should register at least 48ºC on the thermometer. Transfer the ham to a carving board and let it rest for 10 minutes. STEP 6. Carve the ham and serve hot or warm with rhubarb relish.

Meet Iris, the baby giraffe, at Darling Downs Zoo this Christmas

D

arling Downs Zoo is the perfect place to spend some quality family time during the holiday season. With 15 years under owners’ Steve and Stephanie Robinson’s belts, Steve refers to the zoo as still a work in progress with more projects in plan, such as a new parcel of land for their African animals in development – including a special addition. “Our first ever baby giraffe was born mid-October,” Steve said. “From the first day it was born, it was eyeing me – she was that tall!” he said. With a gestation period of 15 months, Iris is a highly-anticipated little girl – but with all things considering, she was actually quick to appear in the family. “We got our first giraffe four years ago, then our male only three

years ago,” Steve explains. “Iris’s dad isn’t even fully grown yet, in giraffe terms, and he was just a ‘toy boy’ to begin with.” Iris’s grandfather on her mother’s side is officially recognised as the tallest giraffe in captivity in the world (he lives at Australia Zoo), so this baby has a lot of growing still to do. Only a fortnight before Iris made her appearance, Darling Downs Zoo welcomed a baby zebra. “Our zebra and giraffe herds are growing, so we’ve bought land to expand their habitats. Our zoo is carefully planned and animals chosen based on our local environment and staff experience, and local support

is paramount since we are self-funded,” Steve said. “The uncertainty surrounding COVID this year was certainly frightening, but the one thing that heartened us was the support from local people – from bales of hay donated, to people bringing washing liquid or biscuits for our staff, which was a wonderful morale booster.” Speaking of the pandemic, one of the extra benefits to visiting Darling Downs Zoo is that it’s extra-safe, being outdoors as well as observing physical distancing and cleaning measures. See the Zoo for yourself at the corner of Gatton-Clifton Rd and Baines Rd, Pilton – open from 9am to 4pm each day (except Christmas Day), with last admissions at 3pm.

Enjoy an eco-friendly Christmas Christmas is the happiest time of year for a lot of people. At the least it brings us together and motivates us to help one another. But there is a dark side to Christmas, and we’re talking about the amount of waste that goes into it.

H

ow much wrapping paper and plastic packaging do you find stuffing into the wheelie bin after the presents are opened on Christmas morning? There is so much we can do to reduce our impact on the planet and instead enjoy an ecofriendly Christmas. Get gifts that last. How often do we buy presents that won’t be needed in six months, or even a week? Finding long lasting presents, with little packaging, is an easy alternative to getting gifts that won’t make it. If you can’t think of what to get look out for logos that promote sustainable products like Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, Scientific Certifications Systems (SCS), Energy Star and Palm Oil Free. If you still can’t find the right sustainable present – why not get them an experience instead? Tickets to events, shows, theme parks can be just as exciting!

Simply buying less presents can help in being sustainable. These days we can be so materialistic. Lots of little presents that probably won’t last, instead opt for one big present; by doing this you’re reducing waste, and chances are the gift you’re getting will last in the long run. Another option is taking part in a Secret Santa style gift giving. This is fun substitute to buying everyone a present and it helps on the pockets too. Choose eco-friendly wrapping. Australians are said to use more than 150, 000km of wrapping paper according to medianet.com.au. Looking for sustainable choices will reduce this number, and these alternatives aren’t even difficult to find. Choose reusable sacks or stockings to place

gifts in – these can even be customised to accommodate the recipient which is fun too. Recycle newspapers and magazine like this one. We know it’s a bit hypocritical of us to say this in a printed magazine, but hey – once you find the presents you want in here, you can use the pages as your easy wrapping paper alterative. You can even find plenty of tutorials on making bows out of recycled newspaper which can super cute. There are endless ways you can play a part in reducing waste at Christmas, and we’ve barley scraped the surface. We hope some of these ideas come in handy.

The beauty of remote-controlled toys Think of your favourite childhood toy and chances are it was something animated that allowed you to interact with it.

T

he remote control car is a classic that is a favourite among young and old, standing the test of time and spanning age gaps and genders with its nondiscriminating design concept and interactive nature. This popular toy became a favourite in the 1970s and continued to be fashionable over many decades — in fact, it is still taking pride of place on toy store shelves today, with a massive variety. If remote control cars don’t take your fancy then there are boats, submarines, planes, helicopters, Robosapiens — even remote control sumo wrestlers. Since the 70s, remote control toys have come a long way as technology has advanced and have evolved to incorporate pop culture and take the form of almost anything. Sticking to the classic remote control car, technology has seen what were originally very basic car designs that could be driven and steered using a remote control develop into a hitech, visually appealing toy that can not only cater to all children stylistically, but can also now effectively perform stunts as well. With everything available from small or basic models, to cars that can be controlled by your iPad, iPhone or iPod — there’s now a remote controlled car to suit both the little and big kids of your household.
