St Mary’s College students shook off the dramas of a difficult year to finally celebrate their school formal at Picnic Point on Friday night. With COVID-19 restrictions still firmly in place, the graduating class of 2020 made the most of the occasion in what was a described as a special night by staff.
While students were required to walk 1.5m apart from their date and had to be temperature-checked before entering the function centre, the school permitted the boys to bring someone of their choice. In fact, the poses for the photographs displayed here were the only times the students were allowed to stand close to each other. Dancing was not permitted but the students still had fun, with teachers hiring a DJ and running trivia.
Boys heard from proud St Mary’s old boy Dr Devon Naidu, owner of Westside Orthodontics, who spoke about the school’s values, and how they held him in good stead.
The formal was supposed to go ahead earlier this year but was postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19. All photographs were taken under strict hygiene and health standards to meet with government guidelines.
