Miles CENTREPIECE: The Miles Historical Village is a key drawcard of the beautiful town of Miles.
PHOTO: CONTRIBUTED
QUALITY COUNTRY DINING Bring your appetite when travelling to Miles. FROM the down-to-earth locals, through to the community-spirited nature of the region — there is just so much to love about Miles. The area was explored by Ludwig Leichhardt who, in October, 1844, named atributary of the Condamine River, Dogwood Creek. When the railway creek crossing was constructed and opened in 1878 by the Minister for Railways, William Miles, the settlement at the area was named after him. The town had always been a thriving agricultural hub of sheep and cattle, but these days the market is dominated by several prominent stud cattle lines, and a strong cropping industry. In recent years the town, which is 46km west of Chinchilla, has experienced an explosion of activity as a result of the coal seam gas industry with hundreds of new houses built along with several new motels and large worker accommodation camps. Along with this explosion of activity has come an impressive food scene in the region, offering everything from Italian through to wholesome pub food.
Miles Windsor Hotel boasts an extremely impressive and extensive menu, featuring seafood, grill options, salads, stir-fry and pizzas. Rich in history and local charm, the hotel offers unbeatable value and provide outstanding service for every visitor. Miles Windsor Hotel is located at 39 Murilla street. Miles is also home to other popular dining destinations such as Hotel Australia, The Queensland Hotel, Oasis Italian Restaurant & Bar, Creek Cafe and Mace’s Hot Bread.

DULACCA HOTEL DELIGHTS The Pink Pub on the Hill is sure to impress all tourists visiting beautiful Dulacca
ALL SMILES: Dulacca Hotel owners Danny and Natalie Scotney stand on he establishment’s impressive deck. PHOTO: CONTRIBUTED 20 www.suratbasin.com.au/travellersdiningguide
DULACCA is quiet rural town on the Warrego Highway, 43 kilometres west of Miles. First came the railway (in 1879) and then came the town; originally spelt 'Doolackah', the name was derived from an Aboriginal name meaning 'emu tracks'. Dulacca epitomises he essence of country living and this is thanks in no small part to the fantastic Dulacca Hotel which is a favourite for locals and visitors alike. Situated on the Corner of Glynn Avenue and Bell Street stands the Dulacca Hotel, known as one of the Western Downs’ most famous pubs. Having been synonymous with the town since its inception in 1908, The Dulacca Hotel has forged a reputation that is the envy of many establishments in and around the region. The hotel came under new ownership in 2017, with owners Danny and Natalie Scotney hoping to use their local nous and professional experience to ensure their new venture is a resounding success. “Danny's grandparents owned the hotel about 30 years ago and it really thrived under their ownership,” Mrs Scotney said.
“Since then there has been a number of different owners, some successful, some not so much. “We wanted to bring it back into local hands to breathe some life back into the 109-year-old gem and create a place where the community could meet and socialise and enjoy a cold drink, good wine, delicious cocktails and a fantastic restaurant quality meal. With a refurbishment and the fantastic reinvogoration from the owners, the Dulacca Hotel offers an infectious, country atmosphere which locals and visitors just love. The Hotel boasts a kids playroom, a huge deck for dining and playing pool and darts. According to Mrs Sctoney, travellers are a keen focus for them and they love welcoming visitors to their hotel. “We would love to be a great place for travellers to stop at and also stay the night with our 6 budget accommodation rooms and also free powered sites for campers and caravaners.” Painted a stand-out pink colour, “The Pink Pub on the Hill” is a venue not to be missed by travellers to come and enjoy the local, country hospitality.
