OUR LADY OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS COLLEGE
Our Lady of the Southern Cross College (OLSCC) is a Catholic College. The values of our faith drive our relationships and strengthen the environment in which our students learn. Our focus on individual student progress is our improvement agenda. We value the learning environment. Good learning environments are orderly. As such, we have high standards and expectations in regard to uniform, behaviour, bullying, absences, mobile phones, assessment submission and engagement. By getting this right we are ensuring rigor in our teaching and excellence in our learning. The consequence of this is a shift from teacher-driven lessons to student-centred learning. We are excited by our progress at OLSCC, as we constantly strive for improvement in raising great people and lifelong learners. We cater for students across their thirteen years of schooling, as well as free playgroup from birth. Our specifically designed sectors of the College ensure that every child is known and understood. Our engagement with the Australian Curriculum is strong, as is the improvement in our student learning outcomes across all sectors of the College. Additionally, we offer a broad range of Senior Subjects via a timetable that maximises the learning time for each subject with specialist teachers. Amazingly, this timetable allows every
Year 11 & 12 student an extra 35% of class time with their teacher above the standard requirement. This simply results in greater academic success. Navigating a school can be difficult, knowing who to talk to and where to access support. We listened to community feedback, and accordingly have readily accessible support for you and your child. Our three sectors of Early Years (Prep- Yr 4), Middle Years (Yrs 5-8) and Senior Years (Yrs 9-12) each have a highly available Assistant Principal and dedicated staff who are experts that focus on age appropriate support to maximise student success. At OLSCC your child’s journey in faith and knowledge is significant. Thirteen years of education means that your family becomes part of our College, and our College becomes part of your family. Our positive and supportive College grows great people and ensures student success. If you would like to experience what every day looks like in our classrooms, contact the College office on 4672 4111 to make a time for me to show your family around. ANGLICAN CHURCH GRAMMAR SCHOOL
Churchie boarding student Angus Pearce from Longreach
My Churchie boarding experience I started boarding at Churchie in Year 7, and I am loving every second of it. Before I started, I was nervous of what it would be like. Now that I am here, I am really happy that I chose this school because of all the fun things that you can do, which I wouldn’t be able to do at home or at other schools. When I first arrived at Churchie, I thought that it would be very strict and I wouldn’t be allowed to do most things. However, I soon realised there are really nice people here and, even though there are rules, they are easy to follow. I only knew my mates from home, but all of the other boys were really nice to me, and we all became friends very quickly. I settled into the boarding house and only got homesick once. My advice for boys starting at a boarding school is to always be yourself and don’t pretend to be somebody else. I think that is how you will find your best friends. Also, have fun, and make the most of everything you do, because not many kids have this opportunity.

TOOWOOMBA CATHOLIC SCHOOLS Join in the success of a Catholic school
Catholic school communities are places where families and staff share the incredibly important responsibility of nurturing and inspiring the unlimited potential of every student. All 31 Catholic system schools, from Highfields in the east, Roma in the north and Stanthorpe in the south, share the challenging mission to be exemplary places of scholarship and faith where all students experience academic success within a distinctive Catholic environment. There are many reasons why students flourish in our school but the most important of these is our staff. After the family the teacher is the most influential person in the lives of students whilst they are at school. Our staff are some of the best in the business and fully understand the life-changing power of education. As Executive Director I am extremely proud of the exceptional work happening in our schools, led and supported by highly qualified staff who act in partnership with parents to bring out the best in every student. Welcoming parents as active partners in the education process is a vital ingredient of success at school. Parents are uniquely positioned to help their child develop a positive disposition towards school where they can feel secure, where they are known and valued and where they can learn and achieve successfully. The partnership between parent, student and teacher is crucial to 13 years of successful schooling and the strength of that partnership will always ensure the best outcome for the student. I thank all families who are sharing in this journey with us and extend an invitation to all to experience the positive difference our schools are making in the lives of students. A Catholic education is affordable and open to all.
