Thinking with Type By Armin Eminovic
Inspiration Most of my inspiration on how to create my typographic book came from my thoughts and imagination, as well as other people’s amazing and helpful modern typography books that I found on Pinterest.
Mock-ups I started my book, but when I did it wasn’t the greatest thing too look at. The first few pages that I created, which were basically my mock-ups, had a lot of white space. I thought this was the approach I wanted to go, for and in the end I did. The only difference is I made it look a little more modern compared to just bland.
Concept I went with this concept in the end, because I wanted to create something simple with a good amount of white space to not make the book too overwhelming. The design on the inside of the book is based around the colour blue with the heading background, occasional blocks and text in the images.
Grid Layout When it came to creating my grids, I decided to go 8 by 8. I chose to have this amount of rows and columns, because it isn’t too much or too little. It worked out perfectly with the placement of text and images too.
Point Size Etc. For the point size I went with 8 for the text, 16 for the sub-headings and 7 for the page numbers. With the paragraph styles I just made it simple for myself so I knew what was used for what. I also added to Master pages. One was for every single page that was shown in the book accept for the first few blank spreads, which didn’t need page numbers on them.
My Spreads All of my spreads that I created were nice and simple with the main headings on the side if the spread had it on those particular pages as well as full page headings for the main theme of the pages. I made sure to keep all of the pages looking as clean and easy to read as possible.
Change? What I would most likely change on my book is the back and front cover to a nice blue like the one in the book. Other than that I thought it was fine.
