The Battle of Jutland, or Skagerrakschlacht (1916) “World War 1 remains characterised by imagery of the trenches of the Western Front. Yet the sea was Britain’s lifeline and the supremacy of the Royal Navy was crucial to national survival” - First Sea Lord Admiral Sir George Zambellas The Battle of Jutland was the Royal Navy’s defining moment during The Great War - the only major naval battle of World War 1 and one of the largest naval battles in history. As such, the Army & Navy Club will be hosting a series of lectures and events to commemorate the Centenary of the Battle of Jutland.

Army & Navy Club History The Club was founded in August 1837 for former and serving Officers of the British and Commonwealth Armed Services and their immediate relatives. Admiral Sir Philip Durham, G.C.B. one of Nelson’s “Band of Brothers” who commanded HMS Defiance at the Battle of Trafalgar, was the second President of the Club (1838-1845).
