Drum lesson

Michele Gaudry explains how the last string to be cut while making a drum is similar to an umbilical cord. It spiritually connects the drum creator to the drum. Gaudry, a primary school teacher, shared many insights and lessons with Arnprior students during a recent visit. For more photos and our story, see page 4.

The 2017 Stampede Days runs this weekend at the Arnprior fairgrounds on Galvin Street, from Friday to Sunday. Organizers are plugging the bull riding as the major attraction sure to draw many. “The most dangerous sport in the world - bull riding - makes its return,” reads a press release from Arnprior Stampede. “Spectators can witness the heart-pumping spectacle of competitive bull riding as top hands from Brazil, the United States, Mexico, Australia, and Canada strap onto 2,000 pounds of raging bull in a timed test for sheer survival.” It is the “raging bull” aspect that drew controversy to the event when it was recently held in Ottawa. The city’s humane society called for a boycott of the event. Arnprior’s humane society has not commented. For tickets and times log onto www.ArnpriorStampede.com.

Silver Chain Challenge pedals on The County of Renfrew is joining with the Ottawa Valley Cycling and Active Transportation Alliance (OCATA) to encourage as many cyclists and walkers as possible to participate in this friendly competition between Renfrew County and Lanark County to inspire and promote more active and healthier communities. Together with partners in Lanark County, they are inviting residents and visitors to compete for the most number of kilometers biked or walked over the month of June. They can register and record their daily activity. This year is the fifth year that Lanark Coun-

ty has issued the challenge to Renfrew County. Last year, Renfrew County won the competition by a close margin. From June 1 through 30, Lanark and Renfrew County residents can log their kilometres whether walking or biking, by going to to www. silverchainchallenge.ca. A real-time bar graph of kilometres clocked will be displayed on the homepage of this website, showing which county measures up to being the most active. All walking and cycling data is displayed on the Stats page, inviting friendly community-to-community competition.

McNab fastball team looking forward to great season After a strong debut at a tournament in Alice Township on June 10, the McNab Lumberjacks Peewee Select Fastball team has their sights set to August when they make their way to the provincial championships. In Alice, they earned a spot in the semi-finals and won an exciting game against the host team 12-8. In a closely matched final game, the boys lost by just two runs to a solid Greely team. “Since this was the first time these kids played together as a team, we set a goal to make it to the semi-finals and we surpassed it. They played their hearts out and everyone had a great day,” comments coach Denis Hill.

The team now has a few exhibition games scheduled over the summer and will travel to Unionville, Ontario on June 25 for the next tournament. The provincial championships are also being held in Unionville in mid-August. The group has received support from the Township of McNab/Braeside, and sponsorship from M. Naismith & Associates. The team will also be holding a raffle with great prizes. There is a reciprocating saw, grinder, Coleman camp stove and camping cookware, plus a turkey deep fryer to be awarded to the lucky ticket holders. Tickets are available from any of the players. The draw will be held on July 9.

The federal government has agreed to pay half of a $250,000 external elevator for Arnprior’s landmark building. ficer Michael Wildman isn’t concerned about the timeline. He said the public works department is in the midst of contracting an architect and structural engineer to examine external and internal viabilities. If an internal elevator makes more sense, likely at a higher price tag, the application will be resubmitted. Wildman is not overly concerned that the second application will be rejected. The federal government understands the first application was short on details. “If it went back it would be with full design details. If we had detailed numbers I’m sure they would be understanding,” he said. “Right now the starting point is a high level conceptual. We are at the very, very early stages.” The town does not have statistics on how many people are challenged to reach the second floor. But Carlile has often noted in the past that museum volunteers are among those with difficulties. It is also true that Arnprior’s growing demographic is the elderly. While true that students

from area schools visit the museum, so too do visitors and residents with a keen interest in local history; they are often older people. Wildman said little about the sizable contribution offered by the federal government. He did reiterate that council has often insisted on public meetings before rendering a final vote on numerous past issues. Were one to be held, it would likely be toward the end of summer. Arnprior is considered a leader among small municipalities in Ontario when it comes to improving accessibility. The D.A. Gillies building was erected between 1896 and 1898. It was used as a postal and customs office. The designer was the office of Thomas Fuller, chief architect of the Dominion of Canada. Fuller, who designed the Parliament buildings, was a formative figure in shaping the architectural expression of Canada’s nationhood. The building’s namesake purchased it in 1967, averting demolition. Gillies sold the building to the Town of Arnprior for $1.

The historic D.A. Gillies building, home to the Arnprior & District Museum, could see an outdoor elevator provide access to multiple floors. Museum curator Janet Carlile and others have struggled for some time to make it easier for those with accessibility issues to reach the second and third floors of the building, located at the corners of John and Madawaska streets in the heart of downtown. A recent second-floor exhibition on war veterans, for example, was difficult for many veterans and other seniors to reach. Carlile put together a grant application to the federal government. It has agreed to fund half the cost of a $250,000 elevator on the outside of the building. When brought to the most recent council meeting, the prospect of an external elevator was met with some trepidation. Mayor Reid said getting $125,000 from another level of government is important, but that he wouldn’t vote in favour unless the public shows a clear willingness. “It is the landmark of the town,” Reid said. “I’m not willing to make a decision that the public is outraged by. “I won’t buy in unless there is public support.” Coun. Lynn Grinstead asked for a public meeting when the final design plans are in place. Coun. Ted Strike agreed. Both Strike and Coun. Frank Dugal said the grant is for a significant amount. Dugal added that it is important both workers and visitors have access to the upper floors. He tempered it by mentioning, “respect for the heritage of the building.” There was also some concern raised about the tight timeline of March 31, 2018, for a final grant application. questions about dancing and drumming traditions, among other cultural practices. The young performers are Algonquin from Pikwakanagan First Nation, located along the shores of the Bonnechere River and Golden Lake. The boys drummed and chanted while girls, in traditional shawl or jingle dresses, danced around them and

sang. Michele Gaudry, who teaches the Algonquins language at Eganville Public and St. James schools, explained the significance of various sounds and movements. Many of the children’s songs were in English while others in Algonquin gave thanks to the Creator. The well-known chanting in native songs, Gaudry said, is a form of prayer designed to celebrate being a living spirit and to please the Creator. As an aside, Gaudry talked about how some of the boys were growing their hair long, as many indigenous do. “All our knowledge is in our hair,” she said. “We keep it long and don’t throw it away when it is cut. We keep it in a bag until we have a fire, usually on a full moon, then burn it. The smoke goes up to the creator. If it is negative we no longer have to carry it with us anymore.” Hair is also cut when a loved one “continues on their journey” to another world, she said, to signify the beginning of a new stage without them. She also talked about the process of bringing a drum to life, how the last strand of leather is cut like an umbilical cord to make it “spiritually connected to you,” and how indigenous people are careful not to let it touch the ground.

“If it falls, it is a sign someone is to leave this world,” Gaudry said. Arnprior students asked many questions, but the notion of a drum hitting the ground generated the most interest. Would a kid die? No, typically it means an elder. Have you ever dropped one? No, that’s why blankets are spread and they are kept in bags. Are drumsticks important? Not so much, but they are not to be played with; no hitting others. Some questions had to do with dancing. Males do grass or chicken dancing, females shawl or jingle dress. Movements are self-determined; whatever feels right. The last song of the day was called The Unity Song. Gaudry talked about the medicine wheel. It contains four colours – red, white, yellow, black – to signify different races coming together. “All races must come together because we belong together,” she said. “Meegwetch. Thank you for having us.” When the afternoon wrapped up, Gaudry was asked why it is important to share their culture with students in Arnprior. She said linking it to the national reconciliation process is a little too strong. It is more about allowing their kids to self-concept, self-identify, and assume leadership roles.

Big smiles for big trucks

The fourth annual Touch a Truck and Meet a Machine hosted by the Ontario Early Years -Arnprior Family Preschool Resource Centre welcomed hundreds of little ones on Saturday, June 17 at the Arnprior Fairgrounds, including Ole and Robert Sparrow, the chance to get up close and personal with trucks of all shapes and sizes. Top right: Henry Turner works the mini-hook crane to lift up some large, weighted down buckets. Bottom right: Hunter and Alyssa Raycroft try to drive away an orange Kubota. Second refugee family arriving soon JOHN WAHAY

Project Arnprior Welcome (PAW) is very excited and happy to announce that approval has been given to accept a second refugee family. They will be arriving in Arnprior within the next few months. Our family is a smaller unit made up of a mom and her teenage daughter. They are of Iranian descent and have spent some time in a Turkish camp. Currently, their story remains unknown to us other than they speak Farsi and are in need of a safe home. Finding suitable affordable accommodation in Arnprior for a large family is difficult. The majority of Syrian families available for resettlement remain large in numbers and when we were invited to accept a smaller family from Iran we did so with excitement. Many single families like our mother and

daughter fleeing Iran are vulnerable and at risk. We felt compelled to reach out. Because of the vulnerability involved, we are looking for couples or female volunteers to help with translation, driving and other responsibilities. All volunteers will require a police check before working with the family. The police check is free. We will be advertising soon for additional volunteers. We are not requesting furniture or clothing at this time as we still have items left over from collections for our first family. Based on the rental unit we find, we will be making a specific list which will be available on the web sites of Emmanuel Anglican Church at emmanuelanglican.ca and Fitzroy Anglican Church at anglicanfitzroyparish.com Once again the committee wishes to thank the kind folks of Arnprior and area and Fitzroy Harbour for their continued support in this humanitarian effort.

Connected to your community

Benefits may be minimal The Ontario government’s recent announcement that the minimum wage and other related rates of pay would be increasing significantly in 2018 and 2019 generated an expected mix of responses. Some praised the proposal as a step in the right direction of the province’s working poor, while others slammed it for being a job killer and a desperate attempt to pull an election win out of the perceived jaws of an upcoming defeat. We can relate to those who are trying to make ends meet on the current minimums. That task must be even more challenging when dealing with larger households and in urban areas where the cost of living is higher than what we experience in the Renfrew County area. Trying to save for education or retirement is difficult if not impossible without taking on multiple jobs. And yet, it stands to reason that certain businesses will have little or no choice but to insist that consumers offset the increased labour costs

in order for those businesses to survive – and cutting into those wages gains for lower-income individuals as a result. If the choice is to reduce staff or close the business, the affected workers do not realize the benefit of higher rates. Fewer workers gainfully employed would presumably lead to higher social service costs. And it’s fair to ask about how some businesses that are already being asked to donate on a regular basis would be willing and able to continue their support of sports teams and community projects if they have to make adjustments to compensate for paying more in operating costs. We are conflicted by the potential benefits of moving in the direction of a guaranteed living wage being offset or cancelled out by higher prices and the possibility of there being fewer lower-level job options in the future. The bottom line is companies are in business to make money; they do not exist merely to employ people.

MP Gallant says ‘nay’ to Paris climate change agreement To the editor:

On June 6, a motion was introduced in the House of Commons by Government House Leader Bardish Chagger to see where our current parliamentarians stand as a whole on the issue of Canada’s commitment to the current Paris Climate Agreement. The vote was almost unanimous around the House, with each member standing in support to reaffirm Canada’s continued commitment to the Paris Climate Change agreement, all 277 of them, except for the one, single, lone “nay” in the entire House, coming from our very own, RenfrewNipissing-Pembrok federal parliamentarian Cheryl Gallant. MP Cheryl Gallant then further went on to give the rest of the House her take on the government motion to renew Canada’s commitment to the Paris Agreement (including the Lib-

eral Party intentions to implement a carbon tax) are “not based on fact.” Huh. In my view, such a “nay” vote cast by our federal MP Gallant thereby plunks her down squarely into the same group of opposers to the Paris Agreement as U.S. President Trump, Nicaragua, and Syria, doesn’t it? However, as shocked as I was to hear of this “nay” vote cast, as mentioned in passing on the local newsradio the next day, I was even more shocked to find little mention of this anywhere else in the national, regional, or even local news, with a dismal only three reportings of such I found online. In my mind anyway, this is indeed a newsworthy story, for too many reasons to list here in this letter. My first question is: How is it our PM Trudeau can go on government record claiming his “disappointment”

with U.S. President Trump over his pulling out of the Paris Agreement, with his statement further supported by a six-minute plus speech given in the House by the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, also claiming her “disappointment” in the U.S. Trump decision; yet when the same such “opposition” to the Paris Agreement presents itself in their own House, following a vote of 277-1; absolutely nothing gets said about it from a parliamentary standpoint? And further, barely a mention of this at all in the national, regional, local news? This to me is bizarre. My next question is: Where does this leave Renfrew County, (the Ottawa Valley) in terms of the future ahead when it comes to such things as ensuring the environmental protec-

What will happen if, say for example, we the residents and landowners need government (military) assistance to be called in for such things as sandbagging assistance, with such a call needing to come from our federal MP, when it turns out our federal MP doesn’t believe climate change is based on facts? Or worse, that climate change is but another Liberal plot and scheme to implement carbon tax? Where will this (lack of) federal political leadership leave us here in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke? I really wonder as I do worry.

The reality show that never ends MICHAEL RUNTZ Nature’s Way

Today, television offers plenty of “reality” shows. From backwoods hillbillies in swampland to teams surviving challenges on remote islands, the topics are varied and wide-ranging. But in truth there is only one bonafide reality show and it requires no pay-forview fees and can be seen in any local woods, meadow, pond, river, marsh, or backyard, and at any time of day. That reality show is, of course, nature. At any given moment a diversity of performances can be viewed, their genres ranging from romance to drama and even horror. Currently, exciting dramas are on view, with life and death battles galore. Many of the battles involve insects on the attack and plants on the defensive. In particular, caterpillars of moths and butterflies are busy devouring plants as they prepare for their next stage: the transformation into adulthood. One species of caterpillar is currently present in really large numbers.

Eastern tent caterpillars, those wellknown but seldom-loved caterpillars that create tent-like webs in trees, have had a good spring. Many trees that bore their webs have been defoliated, and the caterpillars have been forced to leave in search of new restaurants. If they got lucky, they found suitable substitutes in the leaves of rose bushes or apple trees. Eastern tent caterpillar moths mate in late summer, and lay their eggs in neat bundles on stems of cherry trees. These overwinter and in spring the tiny caterpillars that emerge collectively work to spin a silk web in the fork of their host tree. They leave the web to feed on leaves, and this takes place usually at night. After returning to the web to spend the day inside it, they decorate its silk strands with myriad droppings. As the caterpillars grow, they enlarge the web, keeping a number of entrances open. In most years, the caterpillars are found in moderate numbers, and few trees become defoliated. But in some years, such as this one, they can be abundant, and their

effects on trees can be prevalent. In many cases, new leaves grow back and the trees survive. But if a tree experiences a second defoliation, it might not survive. So can anything stop these caterpillars from killing all of the choke cherry trees and their relatives? Well, in nature when any resource occurs in great abundance, something soon takes advantage of it. Soon after snowshoe hares in the boreal forest become abundant, lynx experience an exponential growth in their population and they and other predators, which also become more plentiful, soon starting knocking hare numbers back. Eastern tent caterpillars are hairy and most birds do not eat hairy caterpillars. But one local species does, and it is taking advantage of the plentiful bounty. Black-billed cuckoos not only eat tent caterpillars, they also can eat part of their protective tent webbing. They do so because their crop can remove the hair and silk, and these items get coughed out, not unlike a cat releasing a hairball. And cuckoos are

Vibrant Rural Seniors’ Village a model for the province

Canada 150 special

KATRIN SPENCER Project Manager, Grove Redevelopment

“The intensive engagement and effort to involve residents, the community and staff in The Grove’s redevelopment and future plans reflects their commitment to serving seniors and everyone who might benefit from having a seniors hub in Arnprior. Their work and the end result will be a model for everyone contemplating similar projects and will bring about a centre the whole town will be proud to visit or call home,” said Catharine Gapp, CEO of AdvantAge and participant of the Co Design Session for the Rural Seniors’ Village. About 45 people gathered on June 9 at the Arnprior Public Library to review and discuss together opportunities to improve the care and services for seniors, caregivers and people with complex medical conditions. Participants included community members, residents of the Grove, clients from the Adult Day Program, caregivers, health care providers, service providers, volunteers, representatives from West Carleton, McNab/Braeside and the town of Arnprior, Champlain LHIN , Dementia Society , Children’s Centre and architects

Tell us what Canada’s 150th means to you! A special section in our June 29 issue will contain the best quotes related to Canada: its history or future, geography or people. Give us your best and original few lines to share with our community over the Canada Day weekend. If you have the perfect picture that screams Canada! send it to us. We plan to include a few in the section. Email sherry.haaima@ metroland.com with your contribution - by Friday, June 23, 12 noon - and know that you’ve done your patriotic duty for the day!

About 45 people gathered on June 9 at the Arnprior Public Library for the Co Design Session for the Rural Seniors’ Village.

to name just a few. Together, we plan to develop a model to promote the most independence and the highest quality of life for older adults that is economically sustainable within a community setting: a Rural Seniors’ Village. This is a multiphase project, which includes the new and expanded Grove nursing home and the opportunity to repurpose the existing building for seniors housing and community services. What is co-design? Co-design or participatory design is an approach that actively involves multiple stakeholders (e.g. employees, partners, clients, community members etc.) in the process to help ensure the result meets their

needs. The co-design session held on June 9 was a critical first step for the planning of the Rural Seniors’ Village. It gathered clients, providers and key stakeholders in the region to have meaningful and collaborative discussions and work together to identify key priorities. The objectives of this co-design working session were to review and discuss common themes that emerged from the first step of the co-design process in particular feedback from clients and providers and to reflect on potential improvement ideas, which allow seniors to live to their full potential in our community. The group jointly prioritized the ideas that

would bring the most significant impact in improving the local seniors care and the experience for clients and providers. Finally the group participated in an exercise where everyone was asked to visualize the opening day of the Rural Seniors’ Village and describe what the Rural Seniors’ Village in Arnprior could look like and what it would mean for the residents of the greater Arnprior region. The success of any project in a rural setting depends on a strong community foundation and rich partnerships and the greater Arnprior region owns those key elements as quoted by a co-design participant: “Arnprior is the little town that could support an award winning public library. Arnprior is the little town that could support the sponsorship of two refu-

gee families. Arnprior is the little town that initiated a dragon boat festival. There are a lot of other things that this community has been able to accomplish. My point is that Arnprior will be the small community that created a vibrant seniors’ village that is a model for the rest of the province. This community has a history of working together to make things happen. A ‘just get her done’ approach.” The Rural Seniors’ Village is a true community project consistent with many objectives contained in the age-friendly community plan. In particular the goal is to create an age friendly community together and ensure that seniors in the urban and rural communities of the Arnprior region can grow old, near family and loved ones.

Grand reopening of palliative care room Following feedback from residents and families, Bonnechere Manor Long-Term Care Home has recently refurbished its family palliative care room, creating a family overnight suite. Known as the “Micki Roberts” room in memory of a nurse from the manor who was instrumental in the palliative care program, the addition of an ensuite washroom, pullout sofa and other homelike amenities were added to make sitting or staying with residents at end of life as comfortable of possible for families. Don Goulet, chair of the Bonnechere Manor Foundation, notes that these enhancements were possible as result of generous donations in memory of Joan Whitham from her family, Sterling’s NoFrills owners as well as Renfrew’s Walmart. Shelley Sheedy, director of long-term care states, that the refurbished Micki Roberts family overnight suite is one of several initiatives to enhance Bonnechere Manor’s Palliative Care program including ongoing education for front line staff regarding best practices in palliative care. She states, “We are honoured to be able to take care of our residents at end of life and support their family members.” In addition, Erin Wilson, client programs supervisor, co-ordinated training through Hospice Renfrew for palliative volunteers to sit with residents who may not have family or friends close by. There is always a need for more volunteers. Should anyone wish more information, they are encouraged to contact Erin at 613-433-8308 or ewilson@countyofrenfrew.on.ca.

sudoku

Barsaeinrs

horoscopes

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!

Electric storms much worse for Mother in Renfrew than New York I could sense Mother’s fear. She moved from the stove where she was working to take a quick glance out the window to the West Hill. I sat on the creton couch holding one of my favourite dolls, which helped the nervousness I felt because of Mother’s growing concern over what she saw beyond the river to the back reaches of the farm. Black clouds were coming closer, and thunder could be heard in the distance, like a heavy barrel being rolled across the kitchen floor. Even though it was the middle of the day, Mother lit two coal oil lamps and set them in the middle of the table. For some reason, she felt safer if the kitchen wasn’t so dark. There wasn’t much Mother feared. She could work among the livestock as well as someone born and raised on the farm, and often at night, when it was blistering hot, she would take a kitchen chair and sit outside on the back stoop, alone in the darkness. But an electric storm had her blood run cold. And one was coming, there was no doubt about it. She was sure it was just a matter of time until our old log house was struck by lightning and everything we owned would be burned to the ground, and unless we took extreme precautions, so would we. Fire and an electric storm, I knew, were the only real fears Mother had. And that day, the storm sweeping toward us

had turned the sky black as pitch, and by the time it hit the barnyard, the rain was pelting down and you could scarcely see beyond the pump. Father, of course, was in the barns, and there he would stay. Not to escape the lightning, but the rain. Father had no fear of a storm, even though we once lost 11 cows when the big maple tree on the West Hill was struck by lightning. But that day was never far from Mother’s mind whenever a storm hit. Those of us in the house had to sit on chairs in the middle of the floor. No being near an outside wall or a window! It wasn’t unusual, if the storm seemed to be a real dilly, for Mother to hang a blanket in each of the two kitchen windows to shut out the storm, and she fully believed that by doing so, she could actually keep out the lightning. She also thought if we had something made of rubber in our hands, that too was a safeguard, and so there sat my sister Audrey, who thought it sheer nonsense, sitting inside the house with our feet stuck into two pairs of rubber boots! If we could get our hands on a rubber ball, so much the better. And if the phone rang off the wall, we were forbidden to go anywhere near it! And that

Merchants pay for two parking lots DEREK DUNN derek.dunn@metroland.com

Following input from downtown Arnprior business owners, the public will be asked its views on parking this fall. The municipality paid $250,000 for a future parking lot at the corner of John and McGonigal streets, on the former Ken’s Kitchen property. A second would cost about $200,000, says a consultant’s report presented at a recent council meeting. Both lots are expected to be paid for by downtown merchants; they benefit from easy access to their shops. And, now that the business improvement area (BIA) is disbanded and no longer collecting dues, the town is paying for beautification and other measures. Tens of thousands of dollars left in the bank when the BIA disbanded have gone to municipal coffers. There are several possibilities for the second lot. An empty property is at the corner of Elgin and Daniel streets. Another is next to Mulvihill Insurance. It is in use, but is privately owned, so the town can’t count on its future viability.

Much of the discussion at the council table had to do with the 24 possible ways of billing merchants. Will commercial property owners pay a flat rate of $350 a month for 15 years, or a rate based on property assessment levels, or some other calculation? It was impressed upon staff that merchants have suffered from declining sales over the last couple of years, due in large part to the massive downtown revitalization project. Then there are special circumstances among merchants. Giant Tiger paid to build a sizable parking lot next to its store. Should they be exempt? What of the businesses such as Lumbertown Alehouse and John Street Pub which may still harbour raw feelings for their dispute last year? Staff was also told the BIA folded because most merchants were against paying heavy fees. They won’t be pleased to learn of a new fee to pay for parking lots. Council was told there will be no decisions made without merchant input. The need for a second parking lot exists now, but there is no timeline for buying land. It is common among municipalities that merchants pay for parking.

Soccer season is well underway for hundreds of area youth and adults alike. Upwards of 600 players register with Arnprior McNab Braeside United Soccer Club (AMBUSC) every year, contributing to the claim of the beautiful game being the world’s most popular. However, new this year is club’s league. It has switched from one located within Renfrew county to one primarily in West Carleton and Lanark county. This has no impact on the younger ones who basically scrimmage every week at Dochart Park. It means much more to players — or, more precisely, parents — who often found themselves driving an hour or more for weeknight games in Pembroke and Barry’s Bay. The county’s southernmost club now has a

20-minute drive to Kinburn or Fitzroy Harbour, a little further to Carp, Almonte, and Carleton Place. “The advantage is in the diversity of teams we play. We play against a lot more teams,” said Zak Butterly, AMBUSC vice-president. “That’s a huge benefit. We’ve been trying for a while to get the change. It means not driving to Deep River on a Thursday night while they have school the next day.” Back again this year is the Fury Fanatics program. It sees players receive a lanyard strap for around their neck with a season pass to all Ottawa Fury FC games at the recently upgraded TD Place. Special ticket prices go to guardians who bring nine or more team players. Volunteer coaches and members of the executive are a perennial problem. Anyone wanting to help out can get information at ambusc.ca.
