Dear Readers,
Dear readers,
Here you have our spring issue, published just after our fifth annual wedding show at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Beverly Hills.
Here it is – issue 25 of Aroos Magazine! Can you believe it? Neither can we!
This amazing show offered visitors access to fantastic vendors. After six months of marketing and planning for this show, we received good feedback from everyone involved. This show was one of the best we have had in the past six years, with 65 vendors and almost 2,000 visitors and guests. Now we are planning for our next amazing show back at our old home, the Hyatt Regency Irvine, and can’t wait to see you there. Please mark your calendars for January 19, 2014. Love you all, Navid Soheilian Publisher

We’re still recuperating from our largest and most over-the-top bridal show yet – as I write this, not even a week has gone by since we turned off the lights at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. The response from visitors has been fantastic, and we’re so grateful to have been able to spend the day with you all! Now we’ve already begun planning for next year’s show, which will move back down the 405 to Irvine in 2014. Stay tuned for more details! Happy spring, Candice Yacono Editor

So much planning goes into the wedding ceremony, but how much thought are you giving to your jewelry? Donna de Garciaof Blanca Flor Silver Jewelry said the choice of jewelry needs to do more than be pretty and look good against the skin. “It needs to match the wedding dress. While gold is very attractive, it can clash with a white gown and take away from that gold ring at the end of the ceremony. If you are wearing white, I recommend pearls and platinum. If your dress is a diamond-white, then some gold may be all right, but use it sparingly. You really want the gold attention on your ring.”

‘A Natural Born Artist’ Makeup artist Larise Kia grants Aroos Magazine an interview about the talents and skills that have been beneficial in her life as a pro makeup artist.
Aroos Magazine: What is your background? Larise Kia (pictured at right): I’m a natural born artist. When I was six, my drawings were the subject of astonishment to friends and family. My parents sent me to the most prestigious art school, Behzad, in Tehran after the continuous persistence of my middle school art teacher. The art school had a very positive impact on me. Not only were my artistic abilities developed further, but I also had the opportunity to be the student to a few famous artists. Later I continued on with different 16 i Spring 2013 • Aroos Magazine • aroosmagazine.com
art projects, showcasing them. I slowly moved into the realm of makeup artistry, while gaining 25 years of experience. Performing different modalities within the makeup artistry industry –editorial print work, motion pictures, television, personal artist to a monarch’s family member, regional artistry for a major cosmetic line, and salon/bridal work – has elevated my status within the community of Beverly Hills for more than 20 years. AM: How did you first get into business?
Aroos Feature LK: From the very beginning, I was very clear that my occupation had to involve creativity. Having an artistic background, with knowledge of color, shape and form, propelled me to become a makeup artist. I started freelancing while I went to beauty school to receive my cosmetology license and six months into my schooling I was hired to be a part-time makeup teacher. From there I soared through many amazing experiences, experimenting and perfecting different aspects of this work. AM: What services do you offer brides and bridal parties?
AM: What are some of the hot trends in wedding hairstyles and makeup? LK: Brides these days have been rebelling, choosing to have their hair down, and I love it. However, up-dos are always classic; we combine them with a new fresh twist, which I am very proud of. Other hair-dos like dreamy, loose side-dos or condensed ones have been on a rise.
As far as makeup goes, shimmery eye shadows have died down greatly. Softer eyes and fresher looking skin are always attractive. No matter what the trend, a bride may have a different desire. It is my business to listen and understand while I deliver what they want, with a twist of creativity that is crafted only for her.
AM: Can you tell us about a wedding you worked on that stands out in your mind? LK: Where do I begin? I’ve done a few weddings that were cost than a million dollars. Two of these milliondollar weddings were recorded for the Platinum WeddingsTV show. Another off-the-chart wedding had
two evenings of celebrations backto-back, where the actual wedding ended at 8 a.m., while guests enjoyed breakfast in comfortable sandals that were provided for them before they went to bed for the night! Other interesting weddings that I have attended and provided service to have been traditional Pakistani weddings that celebrate for seven nights, culminating in the last two nights as the official ones. AM: What are your future plans? LK: Currently I’ve just expanded my business with two new and very talented hair designers and a makeup artist, to even better accommodate and satisfy my clients’ high-class taste and expectations. Photography by Tech Studio.
LK: I’ve attended to thousands of brides over the course of many years, and my most precious offer has always been my unwavering focused attention to perform my very best, every time, all the time, making my clients’ wishes come true. My hair team and I provide only excellence. I take great pride in my work and my team and I treat brides with respect, while providing them with high quality service that is individually crafted. My bridal services also include hair and makeup consultations as well as accommodating a quality experience for all involved.

The Art of Charm
By Aroos guest columnist and dentist Amitiss Nasiri-Ansari, DDS Many may ask why people should customarily act with the element of charm. There is probably no specific and direct answer to that question. Charm comes naturally to some people. Others must practice in order to succeed. But you may generate many benefits to yourself by developing a charming character.
Another important factor for overall success is to smile, as many studies
Sometimes treatment for a super shiny smile can be very simple, and can be corrected by a simple bleaching procedure that makes your teeth whiter and more attractive.
Some steps can be taken to improve one’s level of charm, including observing what makes people laugh and smile when you’re around them. With this, increased acceptance and attention can be attained. Several qualities combine to create an overall sense of “charm.” The golden rule is to listen to the other person, and possibly observe what may make them laugh and smile. 38i

If you already consider yourself to be charming, you probably have the right smile. But if you don’t have the right smile, you may consider consulting with a dentist who will tell you if you have an overbite or underbite, which can easily be modified with the help of a brace.
And always remember that if you are more charming, you will be able to develop more opportunities and relationships. Smile with confidence, have shown that a confident smile opens many hearts.

Nordstrom Bridal Director Andrea Wasserman shares her favorite picks from the Nordstrom Wedding Suites and nordstromweddings.com. For spring, she’s thinking about all the other dresses brides wear leading up to (and after) her wedding festivities. “It’s April, the first full month of spring, and we couldn’t be more excited. Plenty of brides with summer weddings have their gowns and bridesmaids’ dresses ready to go, but our Wedding Stylists are always thinking about the next item on a bride’s checklist. Right now, that’s what we call the ‘little white dress.’ We love when brides choose to take advantage of their bridal moment and wear white (or ivory, off-white, eggshell - you get it!) for every wedding-related occasion. Whether it’s the engagement celebration, bridal shower, bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, wedding reception or morning-after brunch, we’ve got the look.” TOP LEFT: “This demure Ted Baker frock surprises with edgy pleats – and the blue shoe trend that we discussed in the New York Times!” Ted Baker London Embroidered Mesh Fit & Flare Dress, $825; Badgley Mischka ‘Goodie’ Pump, $245; Ted Baker London ‘Safari Play’ Twist Lock Envelope Clutch, $110 TOP RIGHT: “Pair this flirty Jill Stuart dress with the shoe of the season: a single-soled pump in a floral print.” Jill Stuart Ruffled Chiffon Fit & Flare Dress, $238; Ivanka Trump ‘Indico’ Pump, 119.95; Nina ‘Brooklyn’ Crystal Teardrop Chandelier Earrings, $75; Diane von Furstenberg Tweet Leather Miniaudiere, $295 BOTTOM LEFT: “A sexy Monique Lhuillier strapless number (a Nordstrom exclusive), statement shoes, and a glamorous necklace coordinate for a high-impact look.” ML Monique Lhuillier Bridesmaids Strapless Ruched Cationic Chiffon Dress, $188; Glint ‘Devyn’ Sandal, $129.95; Nina Peony Glass Pearl & Crystal Cluster Bracelet, $95; Nina Beaded Clutch, $98 BOTTOM RIGHT: “This day-to-night Donna Morgan dress picks up on the illusion necklines we’re seeing on the bridal runways. FAMILY FIRST: This statement truly encompasses the core of A Perfect Table. As a family owned and operated business, it was built upon a foundation of love and devotion to keep their family strong and together through all phases of life. Their passion for each other flows through the needle and thread which create magnificent linens for their clients’ tables, where they gather with family and friends. A Perfect Table is an innovative and exclusive specialty linen rental company, offering a diverse line of linens in rich vivid colors, patterns and textures. From sophisticated damask, to romantic embroidered sheers and luxurious satins, their extensive collection will add the perfect touch to any event.
DECIBEL: The Vibrant Optimist Decibel is the antithesis to generic, pristinely finished hair. “This trend is all about the feeling of a technical style becoming unfinished, left looking raw and unpolished,” Souleiman asserts. At the Missoni Spring ’13 show, the Decibel theme of expressive, disconnected hair was brought to life with a smooth and sleek top section contrasting with free and flowing mid-lengths. A similarly expressive concept is conveyed with textured looks intensified by pops of virtual colors seen at the Peter Som Spring ‘13 show. The style and color collaboration pay tribute to the ‘70s period of glam rock that allowed a freedom and empowered women to experiment with fashion and beauty without the restriction of rules.
ECHO: The Emotional Tyrant Echo is not only a reflection, but a reaction to the world’s current state of affairs and economic downturn. This trend represents the complicated, introverted personality that transcends to a hairstyle designed with this inherent tension in mind. The impression is a chic yet tormented soul, who struggles with the harshness of life but has a romantic melancholic side to her. “She’s obviously a forward thinking woman with this kind of conflict in her,” said Eugene Souleiman. Tory Burch’s Spring ’13 show featured a windblown fishtail braid that exhibits the dichotomy of disheveled, yet complicated look. The color palette is just as emotional with natural looking tones against dense tones.

2013 Hair Trends Each year new trends rise to the forefront, and 2013 is no different as Wella Professionals’ Global Creative Directors collaborated to identify four emerging styles that could influence bridal hiar. At the
ALLEGRA: The Object of Beauty (bottom)
Defined by the merging of Eastern experimental spirit with Western culture, Fusion embodies the contradictions of a modern day geisha meets club girl. There is a graceful and minimalistic elegance to this sculptured look. Souleiman created a modern twist with a ponytail tied away from the crown and folded back on itself. This is a look that Wood says is “creativity gone to the next level.”
Allegra is an extreme contradiction to Echo because she escapes into the bright world of the decadent elite by completely embracing the ostentatious culture she was born into. Her hair is healthy and clean, embodying her perfection. The color palette is a brazen gold, rose gold, platinum, green gold - all precious metals that are refined and bespoke as if they were created just for her.
10th Annual International Trend Vision Awards, Wella Professionals revealed these trends in a collection inspired by the Sound of Color. World renowned stylists and Global Creative Directors, Eugene Souleiman (Care and Styling) and Josh Wood (Color), embarked on a mission to create looks that explore the synergy of aesthetic beauty and the world of music. With that, four new trends - Fusion, Decibel, Echo, and Allegra – materialized, with each one personifying the inextricable link between sound and color.

Aroos Experts
Legally Smart
By Aroos guest columnist and attorney Christopher K. Jafari Your life is perfect. You have a great source of income, you live in a beautiful neighborhood, and to summarize, things just couldn’t get any better. One day you receive an express mail package. You carefully open the package and expose yourself to the end of your perfect life. Your heart drops, you start to sweat, your hands shake and your lips quiver as you whisper what’s written in the infamous all-caps bold font, “YOU ARE BEING SUED.” Oh boy are you screwed. Every twenty seconds, a new lawsuit is filed in America. Every year, thousands of Californian residents become victims of malicious lawsuits served against them. The results of these wrongful accusations are like a nightmare for many; from paying millions of dollars in settlement agreements, to losing all of your assets, or simply spending the rest of your life waking up behind the cold rusty bars of a state prison. The key solution to protecting yourself from such legal attacks is to simply “BE LEGALLY SMART”. Rather than going to law school, the easiest way to being legally smart is by hiring someone who actually is: a lawyer. This does not mean you should hire a lawyer the moment you find yourself in a legal binge. Especially in the State of California, where those that know the law rule those that don’t, establishing a long-lasting relationship with a trustworthy and dependable lawyer is an absolute must. Here are a few steps to help you choose the right lawyer: 1. Use the right resources. Using credible resources such as the State Bar of California (calbar.ca.gov) will point you towards the right direction. All of the attorneys list-

ed on the state bar’s website have been certified through the California State Bar, which means they specifically have an understanding of the complex laws of California. 2. You are the one doing the hiring, not the lawyer. Have the mentality that you are not desperately seeking a lawyer, but rather the lawyers are desperately seeking you. Take the time to interview at least two to three lawyers before choosing one. Ask questions relevant to your needs. If you’re
currently in the middle of signing a contract or being served with a lawsuit, ask the lawyer how many cases similar to yours he or she has handled. Also, don’t be hesitant to ask them how much these cases will typically cost and how long they can last. 3. Don’t be fooled. Henry Bougham once said, “A lawyer is a learned gentleman who rescues your estate from you enemies and keeps it to himself.” What he may have meant was to not find yourself rushed to sign a contract without considering other offers. Also, don’t be fooled by attorneys
overwhelming you with legal terms you’re unfamiliar with. If you don’t understand what they’re talking about, humor them by asking them to repeat what they said in plain English. Once you have hired a lawyer, it is necessary to take a few extra steps to protect yourself from lawsuits. For starters, always keep everything on file; whether it’s bills you receive in the mail or business letters from your clients. This simple step has saved millions of Americans from losing cases served upon them. Furthermore, never sign any contract or agreement without the consent of your lawyer. It is common practice for many business firms to sneak in technical terminology in order to fool you into getting screwed with extra costs you may not be aware of. Most importantly, never attempt to fill out any legal forms or documents on your own. Although having your lawyer do it will cost legal fees, it will potentially save you thousands of dollars by simply doing it the right way. For example, when it comes to immigration law, the simple mistake of misspelling a certain city or checking the wrong box may result in another year of delay in getting U.S. citizenship. By having dependable lawyer and taking these simple precautions you will basically have an impenetrable defense against the vampires of today who wish to suck out all the wealth and assets you have worked so hard to attain. Remember, being protected by a lawyer is like having your very own super hero by your side. Or as a famous Japanese proverb once said, “There are two people who can change black to white- Painters and and Lawyers.”
