OPENING NIGHT

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11 AT 7:30 PM

ECHO

In this stylishly romantic, sensual, and true-to-life exploration of the intricacies of relationships, engineer Avner suspects his psychologist wife Ella of having an affair. But while searching for hard evidence, he discovers something else: that the woman he thought he knew is a complete stranger to him. In his quest to uncover the true nature of their bond, he comes to realize that the more he learns, the less he understands. Echo is at once intimate and universal cinema, a film with a questioning heart and mind that frankly acknowledges passion is often beyond the grasp of rationality.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 9 AT 7:30 PM

FRACTURES

THE OTHER STORY

One day. One marriage. One accusation that changes everything. A distinguished professor and an artist live a quiet, happily married life. However, in the course of a day, the stability of their marriage is ripped out from under them when a former student comes forward to the police and accuses the professor of sexual coercion. Although he rejects her claims outright, the evidence appears indisputable. As the case becomes public, everyone must decide how to navigate their own truths, while considering how their actions could have repercussions on their families, careers, and reputations.

MONDAY, JANUARY 6 AT 7:30 PM Two rebellious young women, one fleeing the chaos of secular hedonism for the disciplined comforts of faith, the other desperate to transcend her religious upbringing, cross paths unexpectedly in Jerusalem in this poignant drama that unfolds with the tension and intrigue of a juicy thriller. This latest film from renowned Israeli filmmaker Avi Nesher is an intricate web of desperate parents, rebellious children, and spouses locked in conflict.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 10 AT 7:30 PM

SHOELACES

In this award-winning emotional Israeli family dramedy, surly mechanic Reuven reluctantly takes in his exuberant adult special-needs son, Gadi, after his ex-wife’s untimely death. As Gadi becomes accustomed to life with Reuven, Reuven’s world turns upside down from his newfound obligations of supervisor and caregiver. Thoughtful, poignant, and unexpectedly funny, Shoelaces explores the complex dynamics of adult parent-child relationships through the delicate lens of its special-needs hero.

MONDAY, MARCH 16 AT 7:30 PM

TOUCHING THE SKY

For the first time on film, six young women who made it to the IDF’s prestigious pilot course are featured, from their first day at the academy through the harsh cuts that follow. Female Israeli soldiers have had the right to apply to flight school for over 20 years, but only a few have earned their wings, with the issue of gender still a contested topic for cadets, officers, and society-at-large. Touching the Sky goes behind the scenes during the first six months of flight school, detailing the lives of these young women, sharing their personal stories, dreams, and fears.

MONDAY, APRIL 6 AT 7:30 PM

INSIDE THE MOSSAD 5

The Mossad, Israel's Foreign Intelligence agency, has been almost completely sealed off to the media for many years. Over the nearly seven decades of its existence, the Mossad has cultivated its image as a daring, all-powerful intelligence agency for which no ‘mission impossible’ exists. Now, for the first time since its founding, this perceptive documentary brings to the screen the stories of 24 former spy-chiefs and operatives. These rare interviews provide a first-person perspective on the personal and operational challenges they overcame, the ethical dilemmas they faced, and the top-secret operations that have shaped Israel's past, and may yet shape its future.

A SOLO SHOW BY LOCAL ARTIST DONNA RUFF In the face of global nationalism, bringing attention to the plight of those who are fleeing violence takes on urgency. What makes a nation? In our case, we are a nation of immigrants. As Jews we have been treated as strangers time and again. The stories we tell and believe in this time of instant news are fragmented, but with a focus on social justice we can find kindness, unity and acceptance.

FOR YOU WERE STRANGERS Artist Talk and Reception

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7 AT 7:30 PM Free and Open to the Community

Donna Ruff grew up in Miami Beach and has relocated here after years in New York and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her work utilizes printmaking, drawing, painting, and design. Through careful observation and technique, she creates works in which aesthetic beauty brings attention to political themes.

A SOLO SHOW BY ELIZABETH SUTTON

ALL THE WAY UP

Many works of art betray the hand of the artist. Elizabeth Sutton’s work, however, tells of the mind of the artist. Her compositional signature is a strong undercurrent of mathematical proportion and algorithmic color placement. Nothing is accidental; everything is intuitive. And with a nod to pop and a dash of kitsch, Sutton creates compositions that are focused on enlivening spaces and uplifting spirits. Sutton believes that her compositions find engaging the viewer with organizational complexity while simultaneously entertaining with whimsy.

Artist Talk and Reception

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 3 AT 7:30 PM Free and Open to the Community

Elizabeth Sutton is a millennial “mom-preneur” and visual artist who has taken the nouveau arts scene by storm. In 2016, Elizabeth was selected to participate in the NYDesigns incubator program, exhibited at both the Affordable Art Fair & Hamptons Designer Showhouse, and was featured by Bravo’s “Million Dollar Listing,” as well as The New York Post. In 2018, Sutton partnered with Joe & The Juice in locations across New York City, in support of The Art of Elysium. Elizabeth’s tile collection for Tilebar is a two-time award collection, from Architectural Digest and HD Expo. Elizabeth is launching her first leather collection along with her lifestyle blog in the Fall of 2019.
