You had me at “hola”. Have fun learning the basics while strengthening your cognitive abilities through practicing foreign language skills. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you start speaking in Spanish.

Have you always wanted to learn the game of Bridge? This class begins with the fundamentals and will teach you the mechanics of the game, the auction and play of the bridge hand.

Advanced Beginner/Intermediate Bridge Wednesdays • 10 - 11:30 am

Take your Spanish skills to the next level and exercise your mind for language. Can also be taken twice per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

This class is for those who have “graduated” from our Beginner class and are ready to take the game to the next level. Learn competitive bidding, more play of the hand and defense. The strategies and mechanics of Duplicate Bridge will also be covered.

You will be amazed at how quickly you will learn to play and love the game of Mah Jongg. Also for those who need to brush up or improve their skills.

Have you always wanted to write your own memoir, short story or novel? Be inspired to take the first step, learn new techniques and get the benefit of constructive feedback in a friendly environment. Students will read “All the Light We Cannot See” as course material.

Celebrate and explore everything Yiddish with Jewish cultural activist Avi Hoffman, and his mother Professor Miriam Hoffman, a worldrenowned scholar of Jewish and Yiddish culture.

WEDNESDAYS AT THE J Make Wednesdays your day to spend learning new things, making new connections and nourishing your mind, body and soul.

How it works:

We’ve designed this program to be open and flexible, fitting into your busy schedule. Just show up ready to enjoy the various classes offered. The class offerings will rotate and change on a trimester basis. Pre-registration not required for these classes, however lunch reservations are requested. $20/day | Members/Patrons: FREE (Lunch is available for purchase for $10) Literary Luncheon Days- $36 inclusive of JCC-U classes, author event and lunch

Mindfulness, Meditation and Movement with Bunny Ross Share the JOY of moving together to music, experiencing relaxation through meditation and breathing exercises. Includes stretching and strengthening in chair yoga.

It’s Not Just Lunch! - Lunch & Learn Series Join us for buffet lunch while enjoying a special lecture, film, author, or workshop. Featuring talent from our local community and around the world. All are welcome. Lunch is provided for $10/person. Reservations are required.

Health and Wellness Talk: Amy Exum, LMHC New Year, New Attitudes Do you make New Year’s resolutions, only to break them within a short period of time? What can we do to help ourselves become happier, healthier and more positive? Please join Amy Exum, psychotherapist, as she leads us down the path of mental wellness, learning practices to improve our mental health and well being.

Coffee and Mingling Grab a coffee, mingle with friends and hear the announcements of the day. All participants will sign in and receive a nametag before heading to class.

The Shvitz Gang with Spencer Ingoglia Join the boys for a morning workout with a certified personal trainer in a group fitness regimen designed just for you. Meets in the fitness center. Grand Conversations with Rabbi Cheryl Weiner, PhD, BCC Back by popular demand, “Aging Wisely” with lively discussions on living our lives with Wisdom, Joy, and Purpose using Text Film and Essays. Cofacilitated with Dr. Miriam Klein Kassenoff. Israeli Culture, History, and Language with Tamar Kolumbus, Community Shlicha (Emissary) An interactive discussion group exploring Israel through film, food, culture, current events and more. Hebrew will be spoken throughout, but no prior knowledge is necessary. Mixed Media with Sandi Levy Get your hands dirty working with paint and various materials with accomplished artist Sandi Levy. This class is designed to be two hours, but students are welcome to attend for one or two hours.

Chair Yoga and Gentle Movement with Havi Heber-Kunis A low impact, non-aggressive way to improve flexibility and strength, this course is a great way to improve balance safely, reduce stress and improve mental clarity. This course is also a great opportunity to meet people and socialize. Art History with Ade Omotosho Join this JCC-U favorite and learn about various artists and themes, now with a new instructor coming to us from the Perez Art Museum. Cooking up Nutrition and Wellness with Kara Burnstine, MSRD, LDN,CDE Bring some health and wellness into your life. Come chat and learn about trending nutrition and wellness topics while cooking up something healthy together each class.
