WELCOME TO
PATTAYA AND JOMTIEN Thailands vibrant coastal cities PATTAYA Pattaya is an internationally known seaside resort on the eastern coast of Thailand, approximately 145 km southeast of Bangkok. Pattaya has over the years become most famous for its go-go and beer bars. Local authorities have made some efforts to change this, and more family-oriented attractions and activities has been developed. Although the bar and go-go industry still has to be considered the largest source of income for Pattaya. Efforts by the authorities in recent years have also improved the quality of the beaches significantly, but they are still weak if compared to Thailand’s other resortbeaches and standards. Overdevelopment in the area has meant that much of the natural charm the area once had has decreased. But its still possible to find, you just need to look a little extra. The islands off the coast is a good place to look at! With cheap hotels and guesthouses, which is easily reached from Bangkok and the airport, makes Pattaya to a popular weekend-destination (today visitors increased to almost 9 million visitors a year). Meanwhile, Pattaya offers a wide range of really good restaurants, vide shopping opportunities and activities for the whole family are some other aspects that increase Pattaya’s popularity. Today Pattaya is spread out along a large stretch of the coastline in Banglamung District (one of eleven districts that comprise Chonburi Province) which extends over the areas east of Naklua Beach and Pattaya Beach, plus the Buddha Hill, just south of Pattaya Beach. Jomtien Beach and the areas east, including Dongtan Beach The beaches of Jomtien’s are generally much broader and in better shape compared with its neighbour Pattaya. And frankly it should be said that even the atmosphere locally is quieter and more family-oriented than at Pattaya Beach. Jomtien is more popular among holidaymaker’s families; more peaceful and serene compared to the crowded Pattaya Beach and a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Jomtien also has its amusement park “with the tall tower” that entertains the kids with water and other enjoyable activities. Jomtien, for those who want to be close to everything there is in Pattaya, but far from disturbing traffic and noisy bars, a more laid-back existence simply!

PATTAYA ISLANDS Koh Larn lies about 7,5 km. from Pattaya mainland
Koh Larn or Koh Lan is an island located approximately 7.5 km from the main land in Pattaya. About 45 minutes with ferry or 15 minutes by speedboat. The island has only 1,000 residents but is the largest island close to Pattaya. Although the island is small, there is a school, a police station and a small hospital. The island has a few small villages called Ban Ko Lan and Ban Krok Makhan and the small parish village Naban. With its clear water and beautiful beaches, the island is perfect for a day trip with snorkelling. Looking for more excitement? There is jetskis and banana boats and parasailing! The island also has its own shooting range! At some beaches there is a big chance to meet monkeys. When you get hungry you can enjoy delicious fresh seafood right on the beach. Koh Larn has six white sandy beaches, most of them on the West coast, Hat Ta Waen, Hat Laem Thian and Hat Thong Long to name few. Hat Ta Waen is the beach where most tourists come. In the more than 750 meters long sandy beach you can also find smaller restaurants and shops with souvenirs. Spread the towel on the beach and enjoy a day in peace, although the larger beaches are the most visited and some times of the year can get crowded. Koh Khrok Almost the whole of Koh Khrok, located about 5 km. from the coast of Pattaya, is surrounded by cliffs and mountains in all different forms. The island is private, which means that you cannot visit here without permission. Koh Phai or Bamboo Island located west of Koh Larn, about 20 km. from Pattaya. A small island, which is only four kilometres long and 1.5 kilometres wide. It takes about two hours to get here by boat from Pattaya harbour. There is no one living on Koh Phai and it is forbidden to stay overnight on the island. The island is an archipelago that is guarded by the Thai Royal Navy where even Koh Manwichai Koh and Koh Luam is included. There are two excellent dive areas around Manwichai. Koh Sak Just north of Koh Larn is the island of Koh Sak. It is only about 600 meters between the islands. Koh Sak is a very clean and nice island where you can enjoy your day trip. If you get tired of sunbathing and swimming during your stay there is more action-packed activities to occupy your time. Rent a jetskii chugging around by the waves, or jump on a banana boat and hold on tight! There is also couple excellent dive areas and HTMS Kut, originally a World War II U.S. landing ship, the closest wreck from mainland that are available for recreational divers.

OF PATTAYA Patthaya Beach Despite the nearby traffic, shopping stalls and restaurants it does not feel like the beach is right in the fast paced city. The beach is not as nice as any of the surrounding islands, but it applies to most beaches on the mainland. The sand at Pattaya Beach is a little gritty but beautiful golden brown. The water is not turquoise but it cools when the sun is too hot, the hotel pool is probably more preferred if you want to swim. For 30 Baht the sun chair is yours for the rest of the day. Just pamper yourself for a moment, call for some food and drinks and get a relaxing massage, enjoy and get laidback! Wong Amat Beach After the cape in north Pattaya Beach you can find Wongamat Beach & Naklua Beach, approximately 700 meter long sandy beach. Wongamat Beach is a quiet beach that is perfect for swimming and sunbathing. There are no shopping and no nightlife that will bother you, just luxury hotels with direct access to the beach, so you don’t have to cross the street to get to the hotel, and magnificent view over the surrounding islands. Although the beach is close to Pattaya Beach, it feels nicer to swim here. NOTE! If you’re not a guest to the hotels here it can be that some chairs are intended only for hotel guests! Baklua Beach The northern tip of Pattaya locates Naklua Beach. The beach is used sparingly for sunbeds and activities. Here it is much quieter compared to the neighbouring Pattaya Beach. Hardly any beach vendors and sparsely among sunbathers. Most people choose the safe and comfortable home environment around the hotel pool, I can understand them, not because the beach is unsightly, because it’s actually really nice, but more to the hotels on the beach have focused firmly on getting to a really nice environment around the pool area. You can find many of the luxury hotels in Pattaya here. Jomtien Beach The beach really feels like an oasis in the city, surrounded by greenery and skyscrapers on the north side of the beach. More quiet than Pattaya Beach and also with less nightlife. The sand here is more of rough character and darker brown. For 30Thb. / day you get to use the all day. Jomtien Beach is about 4km long, sometimes it is shallow and sometimes descends it quickly down to the deep. The southern part of Jomtien Beach is called Na Jomtien Beach. Dongtan Beach The neighbouring beach to Jomtien Beach (turn right in the corner where Jomtien Beach starts). Even here there are a variety sunbeds for 30 Baht per day. Alternate between pink, green, or perhaps a blue sun lounger for the day! Every business has namely its own colour on the sun lounger, easier to keep track of them! It is not difficult to find to Dongtan as a large sign at the Jomtien Beach leads the way. Ban Amphur Beach This beach might be an option if you fancy a change of atmosphere for a day. About the same quality of sand and water in Jomtien but not as busy and smaller vendors bothering you. Lovely small restaurants strategically located making it easy to order both food and drink. Half way to Bang Saray from Pattaya, turn right at the post office! White Sand Beach, Hat Sai Kaew in Thai. This is “the beach”! You reach it if you travel over the mounting after Bang Saray. The beach is located on military ground and there is a fee to pay (100Thb.) if you want to swim here, but it is worth it! The beach is incredible nice with golden yellow fine sand and it is difficult to associate to Pattaya’s beaches. Cheap food and pleasant shade created from the trees on the beach. Try it! 8

Elephant trekking ขี่ช้างในจังหวัดกระบี่ Pattaya Elephant Village opened in 1973 as a sanctuary for former working elephants. These elephants, through reasons of injury or sickness, can no longer be used as a part of heavy work in the jungles of Thailand. Also because of their diminishing habitat, it is now longer possible to return them to the wild. The Elephant Village provides a safe place, where the elephants can live out their lives with dignity and freedom from fear. A visit to the Elephant Village is not only a unique experience, but it is also a lifesaver because the fees paid by our visitors contribute to the care and survival of the elephants. The Elephant Village is a private company, which is run on a non‑profit making basis and after running expenses all of the proceeds go to feed, pay the medical bills and generally take care of the elephants and the area where they live. It receives neither government support nor sponsorship from any large company or international organization. Elephant Sanctuary by Phaiat Chaiyakham Khun Phairat knows a lot about elephants. He has been an elephant keeper for more than thirty years. I used to wonder about elephants when I was young, how do they feed them and how much food must they have every day? It costs a lot to keep elephants – between 1,000 and 5,000 THB a day for food and medicines per each elephant. There is about thirty elephants and some one hundred staff to look after them. Every day they organizes three
shows and more than 1,000 visitors crowd into the show ground to watch the 90-minute demonstration. -We guarantee that our elephants are well treated and are not afraid of our visitors. All the above excursions can be booked by telephone: Elephant Village: 038-249818, 038-249853 info@elephant-village-pattaya.com www.elephant-village-pattaya.com Combination Trekking, 3,5 hr. Upon return, the visitors will be served home cooked buffet lunch or dinner. This program takes place twice daily at 10.30 hrs and 16.00 hrs. Price is 2,000 Baht / person and 1,600 Baht for children under 100 cm. Booking has to be minimum 2 persons. One Hour Elephant Trekking: Starts with a ride on the elephant through a local farmland and bush, 45-50 min (2 persons will share one elephant). AYA Beach PATTAYA Pattaya was a sleepy small fishing village until the 1960s, when American soldiers, who were stationed on nearby U-Tapao airbase, began visiting Pattaya for rest and relaxation before it was time to return to the war that was raging in Vietnam. They started to rent easy homes in the southern end of Pattaya beach from a prominent Thai. Despite their brief stay rumour spread among American soldiers stationed in the region and Pattaya quickly became a hot alternative to Bangkok which first was a popular place to recuperate. Pattaya has grown to became a popular seaside resort and has today expanded greatly to Thailand’s most popular destination for visitors from all over the world, with over 9 million visitors yearly. Fish huts have long since been replaced with hotels, resorts, shopping centres and restaurants and small bars with scantily clad staff. Today, atthorities put a great effort to clean up Pattayas image to become a more family-oriented destination, and there is a plethora of activities and attractions for the whole family to discover. While tourists have found their way here also the price development moved forward. Though, Pattaya still has a lower price point for both accommodation and other cost of living compared to other tourist destinations. Hotel Prices start around 400THB / night while a middle-class hotels, more centrally located by the beach road, starting around 1,000Thb. / Night. If you stay at the 5-star Marriott at the beach road, you have to pay from about 7,000Thb / night (compared to the Marriott on Phuket where prices start around 15,000Thb / night). Anyone visiting Pattaya don’t need not feel anxious to find things to do. Literally you can find it all here! From riding on the elephant back to shoot with a rifle or Magnum 44 revolver. Young families enjoying themselves with various excursions and the islands located just outside Pattaya is a great favourite with Koh Larn in the forefront. But! Beware of the great beaches, like Tawaen Beach (Larn) as they often gets crowded and does not feel particularly cosy. Rather visit any of the smaller beaches, Tien Beach or Samae Beach, or the neighbouring islands with fewer visitors!
Food There are restaurants every few meter serving everything you could whish for and with menus from all worlds’ cuisine. The best restaurants may be the most difficult to find, while the most expensive usually has prime location. Talk to the staff at your hotel, they can usually recommend a restaurant according to your wishes and guide with map. Visit Mantra Bar & Restaurant and we almost can guarantee that you will be satisfied, if the pricing fits your wallet! The restaurant is located at the beginning of Beach Rd. and serves superb food, fresh drinks, have super friendly staff and comfortable furnishings! Expect main dishes to start from 500THB. www.mantra-pattaya.com Would you rather spend your money on European cuisine, visit Beefeater restaurant in Pattaya (Soi Diana Inn). They serve wonderful steaks and dishes from the Swedish cuisine. What about a pepper steak with potato gratin from around THB 500? www.beefeaterpattaya.com Otherwise, we would like to warmly recommend the simpler smaller restaurants, dare to try the street-food! From the restaurant carriages they make the food right after ordering with a great taste to a 10-part of the restaurant price. What about a Khao man Gai (Chicken on a bed of rice) for 40 Thb. or Pad Krapow Moo (spicy basil dish with pork) for the same amount? Not the flashy setting but with the same love for cooking and you will come close to Thai society in this simple environment. After dinner, nightlife takes over. The most popular activity is to walk along the Walking Street, with crowded restaurants, discos and small bars (go-go), where scantily clad girls trying to lure guests with signs telling you that they have cheap beer. Inside the go-go bars there are even more scantily clad girls dancing in the dim light while visitors (even women) sipping cocktails and cold beer. In one other place an amazingly beautiful woman promisses a man that she will take good care of him, but is it a woman? Yes, you certainly do not know, welcome to Pattaya!

JOMT
The beginning of Jomtien Beach
18
www.arrivalthailand.com
TIEN Beach J O M T I E N B E AC H Jomtien beach, so much quieter than its neighbor Pattaya! But as the area along the sea in Chonburi is growing and exploited, there are soon no attractive land left to build on in Pattaya and it shows. In recent years, new buildings come to be built farther and farther along the beach in Jomtien, maybe for good and bad. That it is quieter in Jomtien compared to Pattaya is precisely the reason why many comes here. And the short distance between them makes it close to shopping or if there is any thing else of the moment lacks, like bustling nightlife...
That there are fewer people in Jomtien to Pattaya is also reflected in the traffic with fewer cars, except for weekends and other Budhist holidays as it can densify. That the beach is just a few meters from the busy beach road is nothing you will think about when you are swimming or resting in the sun loungers under the parasols. It is only when you need to cross the road you will be reminded of it.
As the development has been slower in Jomtien the beach is also a notch better (in our opinion), even beach life is a bit calmer and sparser between the sun chairs. The range of restaurants is growing, and today one can find most food you could whish for, except for McDonalds and KFC. Instead, they have been rewarded with Aquavit Grill & Bar. A restaurateur from Sweden that had brought his pots and serves wonderful steaks mixed with different buffet-days with e.g. tex-mex. From the illuminated bar (changes color) you can order colorful cocktails.
The colorful bar at Akvavit Grill & Bar
The range of restaurants extends throughout the beach road, and if you travel all the way in the south, you will find the popular sea-food restaurants, where Thaipeople come in large groups, all the way from Bangkok to eat the famous freshly caught, tasty and affordable sea-food.
South part of Jomtien Beach
Accommodation: The largest hotels can be found in the beginning of the beach road but if you continue, you can expect that the pricing drops the further away you get. There are some four and five star hotels. Prices on hotels vary from 500THB to around 10,000Thb / night depending on standard and location. More about the hotel at www.arrivalthailand.com Nightlife: After the one day on the beach the evening/ nightlife takes over and most of it revolves around the restaurants. There are a couple of bar areas serving cold beer and maybe you can get mixed drinks if you are lucky. Every other bar has pool tables, most have female staff that are happy to help if you get problems with aiming at the pool table ...

Bang Saray is the perfect location for exploring the fascinating culture and attractions of Pattaya. There are a variety of attractions, including Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden and Nhong Jub Tao Temple, not to be missed when visiting the area. Bang Saray offers more than you can expect and is easy to reach if you stay in Pattaya or Jomtien! Famous sites, great restaurants and a exciting and varied of Thai-style nightlife. If you visit Bang Saray town you will discover a small Thai fishing villige with focus on local markets (different places depending on weekday) as well as the small-scale fishing industry that made the areas sea-food restaurants famous and well attended. Many forigners who want to stay in Thailand and Pattaya, but still stay a bit away, like Bang Saray because its its quieter and cheaper, both to invest in housing and living here, and the food served in the sea-food restaurants is as fresh as it gets at low prices.
Bangsaray Beach Rd.
Instead, its for example, the most beautiful beach in Chonburi, Hat Sai Khaew or White Sand Beach you should come here. The beach is on military land and you have to pay 100THB. to enter. In weekends you have to park your motorbike / car at the entrance kiosk and proceed with joint Songthaew (included in the fare). Weekdays you can drive all the way to the beach. Statues at Bangsaray beach from the story of Phra Aphai Manee
The night life is just as quiet as many want it to be, and you dont come here to party, although there are som bars/restaurants with pool tables, but thats it!
Visit the Sunday market that is held once a month on the beach rd. (that will be closed to traffic and transformed into a bustling street market). Currently the market happens on the second Sunday of the month. As with the rest of Bang Saray, the market is a clean venue, with a wide range of vendors, selling everything from traditional Thai food and snacks to a good selection of clothes and shoes vendors. All seems reasonably priced, and there is a good atmosphere throughout.

What to do? Thailand’s eastern seaboard is host to a imposing range of attractions
Pattaya Floating Market is a great attraction and visitors pilgrimage here ever since it opened in November 2008. Its primary part is based on food, culture and traditions from four regions, northern, southern, central and northeastern part of Thailand. Pattaya Floating Market, the largest floating attraction in East of Thailand, and the part that should encourage more visitors to Pattaya. The market represents not only the cultures and traditions of different regions of Thailand, but also niche products from there, such as wood sculpture, silver, textiles, paper crafts, handmade bags, Thai silk, and so on. Visitors can travel around on boats to get a different perspective of the market that covers

an area of nearly 100,000 sqm. Additionally, visitors can try traditional Thai food and dessert, see live shows from Thai culture and traditions from the most important regions in Thailand. Golf around Pattaya Wangjuntr Golf Valley Course - Highland Course - Jungle Course Nestled by the hills and the rainforest of Wangjuntr, in a historically rich province of Rayong, Wangjuntr Golf Park lies quietly in what might be the utmost natural setting of any Thai golf course. Wangjuntr, or the Moon Palace in Thai translation, was once a habitat of the undisturbed natural world, seen only through the eyes of pacifying moonlight. Along the road to civilization, however, this tranquil residence of wildlife was gradually encroached and destroyed, leaving the area lifeless.
Bangkok and one hour drive from Pattaya Wangjuntr promises an unrivaled golfing experience without the cost of your convenience. Each and every hole that is played here, whether by professional or amateur golfers, merely reflects the scrupulous process that this golf course is built to challenge everybody alike. After all, your personal victory here is not based on the score, but rather on the fabulous journey, which simultaneously is the ultimate test of your golf skills.
Wangjuntr Golf Park arises from an inspiration that human, nature and animals would once again coexist in harmony. Today, one of the most spectacular championship golf courses is ingeniously designed, developed and depicted into the picturesqueness of the natural world. It is here, at Wangjuntr, that human nurtures and returns animals to their innocence. It is here, at Wangjuntr, that a fabric of life is woven and displayed on the golf course. You will discover the most serene coexistence of nature and golf, only at Wangjuntr Golf Park. Located just one-and-a-halfhour drive from
The panoramic and rigorous layout of each hole at Wangjuntr Golf Park presents breathtaking views while demanding precise shot-making and tactful play. The mountainous greens are notorious and stand for every reason you will be returning to challenge the course, again and again. For any golfer who has played at Wangjuntr Golf Park, your experience will enhance the understanding and appreciation for golf. Quintessentially, the course architect’s goal has from the outset been to establish the highest quality of golf course, as to draw to it the most avid of all golf, nature and animal lovers.

The course has some smallish occasional water hazards to negotiate and fewer than usual bunkers that are a bit larger than normal, and there are several dogleg holes demanding that you position your tee shots carefully. With challenging sloping fairways and greens.
The uniqueness of Wangjuntr is the two wounderful course designs and also the pristine landscape that has been left in place. The course is landscaped in an area with rubber trees and pineapple, sugarcane and cassava plantations and converted into two golf courses and a beautiful golf resort.

Pattaya in the evenings The Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya
Walking Street Sea food restaurants
-5 Ice Bar
Walking Street Although Pattaya is recommended for families with children they may seek to more remote corners of Pattaya. One hotel recommended is the Hard Rock Hotel. With various activities for the whole family during the days around the pool it should be a perfect option! An other really nice hotel is the Centara Grand Mirage at Wong Amat Beach, where the pool area is so awesome that your children do not want to leave! With that said, lets continue to the nightlife in Pattaya!
-The nightlife in Pattaya suits those who NOT want to go to bed early. The evening starts early with dinner at one of the citys all fabulous restaurants and then the evening with party takes over, maybe at one of Pattayas all discos or in a bar with sing-along to some live band. -The discotheques have a young audience, who have the strength to keep going into the wee hours. 44
And Pattaya is well known for its lively nightlife and is one of Thailand’s best places, perhaps the best, if you like to enjoy nighttime! The restaurants serves everything from classic Thai food, like shrimp soup and vegetable wok, to burgers and pizza and lovely steaks and pasta, food from all over the world. Prices are low and you can choose a new restaurant every day according to what food you are craving for the day! The most popular venue in Pattaya’s nightlife is the Walking Street that winds a few hundred meters along the ocean in South Pattaya (ranging from Soi 13 to Soi 16). People come here to experience the neon-soaked street with Go-Go bars mixed tightly with discos and Restaurants. Walking Street is closed from traffic during the evening and turns into one big crazy party zone. The staff to the various places are doing their utmost to attract the visitors. The Go-Go bars with scantily clad girls have placards that say their drafted beer is the cheapest. Some others have signs that promotes the show upstairs, but be careful to visit those! There are stories of those who duped into watching “ping-pong-show” to discover that their bill become, doubled or increased ten-fold from what they actually ordered.
At the next bar you are met by the most beautiful women you’ve ever seen, scantily clad, long, narrow and incredibly curvy. But! Is this really a women? If you ask them, the answer is yes! But the truth is that there are often many visits to the surgeon and countless thousand Baht behind their appearance, welcome to the Kathoy zone! Often they have added some part to the body, and other parts have been removed, all to shine strongest for all visitors passing through. Although the price situation is considerably higher on Walking Street, people flock here. It is convenient to have everything on one street and even if youre not looking to party all the night, Walking Street is an attraction that offers so much that it becomes difficult to grasp. -The Sea-food restaurants serving fresh seafood on the pier along the street are popular to visit. With fresh King Lobster, Tiger Prawns, Prawns, different kinds of fish, oysters and mussels. Fried, baked or boiled all you can ask for. You pay by weight. However, we want to state that the restaurants here are a bit of a tourist trap, good and well prepared food but expensive! www.arrivalthailand.com
If you feel you have been wronged, what ever comes, you can turn to the tourist police at the beginning of Walking Street, (northern end). They are usually able to sort out most of the hassle encountered!
Akvavit restaurant - Jomtien Beach
Tourist Police in the North end of Walking Strret
Disco After 12am Club Insomnia is highly recommended. There is a really good move and always a lot of people. The nightclub consists of two storeys with hip-hop / R & B and a disco / house music. The atmosphere is cheerful and lively and the drinks are affordable in the bars. Insomnia is also open much longer than the other places.
Tony´s is a favorite place for Americans who like to debate all kind of sports.
One other party place with good moves are the Marine Club on the southern Walking Street. Everything is decorated in a nautical style with huge aquariums decorating the walls. The music played is most House and the visitors are mostly of the younger kind.
All the beach street stretches with different places and if you travel further up to the second street and Soi Buakhow you will find new party venues.
The Mixx is another place that also has a lot of visitors and a really good variety of music and offering new guest DJs every night. They attract people who want to dance and there are not many people siting down. If you just want to grab a beer and sit in a nice bar you should visit Tonys. They serve lighter meals such as the excellent club sandwich and you can watch sports on tv. Visitors are mix of all ages and the atmosphere is really nice.
Pattaya has everything you can imagine in the nightlife and the variation is large. If you’re looking to party, it is clearly the right place you have landed on. There are of course other places to visit than Walking Street which also have what it takes for a nice evening out.
Mixx Discotheque - Soth Walking Strret
On Walking Street, you can also find V2O Ice Bar where you can cool down. Put on a jacket and step into freezing temperatures for a drink and then quickly out! There are a couple of ice bars in Pattaya. -5 Ice Bar that are situated in the Amari Nova Suites is considered a class better but also more expensive. But honestly, why should anyone who come from cold countries step in to freezing temperatures? But the truth is that the ice bars attracts after a week in 35 degrees, maybe the drinks included is also a reason :)
Even further, at the third road, it becomes sparser between the places and on the other side of Sukhumvit Rd., also known as “The Dark Side” there is some places, but perhaps more for those who live here or spend more time in Pattaya. Jomtien In Jomtien there are some bar areas, but much more modest compared to Pattaya. And thats one of the reason why many people choose to spend their time here. Because when everything comes down to it, it is just a few minutes between the beaches with the local taxi songthaew! 45

Getting around Pattaya It is quite possible to explore the central parts of Pattaya on foot. The distances between most of Pattaya Beach hotels, clubs, bars and shops stretches a little more is a couple kilometers. But Pattaya transport options are easy to understand, reliable and extremely affordable that walk in the heat will be felt meaningless. Getting between the various beaches of Naklua, Pattaya and Na Jomtien is also equally easy and cheap. Motorcycle For the adventurous there is motorbike rental. But it should be said at once that the traffic in Pattaya is overwhelmingly and directly harmful to your safety. Only experienced motorcycle riders should use this mode of transport! Renting a light motorcycle costs around 200-300 baht / day. If you are an experienced ‘biker’ there are heavier motorcycles, 750 cc or 1,000 cc can be rented for 500-2500 Baht a day. Yoe are expected to have a valid driving license. This means either a Thai driving license or an international driving license issued in your home country. The rental companies will certainly not check your driver’s license, they are more interested in your passport. Police however, will fine you for this, usually 400 baht. Helmet is mandatory and the fastest way to get friend to the local police force is not to wear one (without helmet 400 Baht). Thai law requires that motorcycles have headlights on and some Thai-motorcycle shall be permanently illuminated. Accidents are common in Pattaya. Drive your vehicle with the greatest caution is the only way to survive. NOTE! -if you never driven a motorcycle before, it is best to learn somewhere else! Rent a Car Car rentals are available from both local and international companies such as Budget +66 (03) 871-0717, Hertz +66 (03) 871-6693, Avis +66 (03) 836-1627, National +66 (03) 841 to the 125/6. The most popular cars is Suzuki jeep, fr. 1,000 Baht / day, Toyota Vios fr. 1200 Baht from local businesses and more if you use one of the international majors. Also here you need a valid driver’s license even though local companies rarely ask for it. On the other hand, if you are cought in an accident, they may claim your insurance is not valid because your licence is not approved. www.arrivalthailand.com

Motorbike Taxi It is easy to identify the motorbike taxi-drivers. They wear colorful wests with numbers on the back and can be hailed on the streets or be found in street corners chatting and playing games. The price is usually between 30 baht and 40 baht for short trips within Pattaya. Not the safest way to travel in Pattaya traffic. Loan helmets are also often of poor quality and with badly fitting. Always agree on price before your ride! Songthaew Songthaew means “two seats”. A pick-up truck with two benches on the platform and a roof on top. The most common form of transport in Pattaya, often referred to Baht-buses. A affordable way of transport. A journey that stretches along the beach road cost 10 Baht. Need to change for other route cost another 10 Baht. Want to book a private trip outside the regular route, you can negotiate a price. The route most people use is around Beach Road, then left on South Pattaya Road (second Rd) where it turns left and travels parallel to the beach road. They stop at the Dolphin Circle and then travels further back to Beach Road. At Dolphin Circle some songthaews turn to Naklua Beach and the North Pattaya Road to the aircon bus station and Sukhumvit Road. Songthaews from North Pattaya Road bus station to places along the beach and Second Road cost 20 Baht. Songthaews to Na Jomtien departs from the intersection of South Pattaya Second Road and costs 20 Baht. For trips up and down to Sukhumvit Road including the journeys to and from the airport at U-Taphao is white Songthaews and cost 20 Baht. Songthaew from North Pattaya Rd. bus station to places along the beach and Second Road is 20 Baht. Taxi Pattaya now has its own taxis that usually are parked outside major hotels and outside shopping malls. They are expensive to travel with, and the fare is negotiated before the trip without taxi-meter. IMPORTANT - SETTLE PRICE BEFORE RIDE! If you travel out from Pattaya, there is a cheaper option. Since Pattaya is a common destination, there is usually taxis from Bangkok and the airport. The drivers wait until they find a running back customer. The price is usually more easy to negotiate as drivers are eager to get back home and the competition is great. Airport around 1,000 Baht. Bangkok 1,200-1,500Thb. 15 47
