It's all about “When, Where & How” We all love a BBQ with friends and family, its either a great social affair where the grown ups eat too much and drink a little too much well into the evening or a small family affair where everyone is involved from children to Grandparents! Whatever your occasion, we normally dine in the garden after a veritable feast has been prepared in the kitchen and on the gas/charcoal BBQ and that's exactly how it should be. Relaxed or Formal Dining? Relaxed dining, rattan sofa sets or formal dining, cube rattan, teak or any other sort of dining table and chairs, which do you prefer, or which should you choose? If you’re lucky enough to have the space to BBQ, then dine on a stunning formal outside dining set and then when you’re fit to explode, retire to your beautiful rattan sofa set, lucky you! However, if you don’t have the space or the budget for both, which should you have? Well ultimately it will be a matter of personal choice but always try think which you will use the most. Formal outside dining sets are great providing a comfortable place to eat with lots of table top space, however, once you have eaten, most are not built for you to sit back and relax. This is where the sofa suite takes top prize. A rattan sofa set is perfect for chilling out, enjoying drinks with friends, eating nibbles and finger food off your knee and then when your fit to burst, relax into your super comfy rattan sofa or arm chair. If you ask me, the Rattan sofa set wins every time, but that's my choice, what's yours? A Word of Warning... If your buying teak then make sure it is best quality seasoned teak and not sapling wood teak. Sapling teak furniture is cost effective but when it dries out it will become “loose” and badly fitting. Spruce is a great alternative, lasts as long and is a much better price. If your buying Rattan sofa sets or dining sets then you really need to look hard. There are many types of Rattan weave and frames. A must is aluminium frames and the way in which the weave is attached is very important. If you need any advice we have a great selection of outdoor furniture, BBQ's and parasols, from cube dining and Spruce formal dining to small two seater sets and fantastic Rattan sofa sets. Call in at Bentleys and we will only be to happy to help you make the right choice. Ever thought of Table Top Cooking or Bon-Fire Cooking? With the introduction of Pod BBQ's and the incredible “HotWok”, tabletop cooking is going to be a great alternative to the larger BBQ. They are perfect for when you don't want to drag out that big BBQ or spend 20 minutes cleaning it from last nights use. They are neat and compact and ready in a minute. If you want to take a sneak peak then call in and we can show you what it's all about. Just call in and take a look at the alternatives we have to your everyday BBQ's. St Cuthberts & All Saints Hollywood and the Bible Hollywood has a longstanding relationship with the Bible, and every now and again a story from the Bible will be used as a storyline for a film. Many Biblical epics have been made, and who can forget Charlton Heston’s portrayal of Moses. Especially when he returns from Mount Sinai with a new hair style! More recently of course has been Russell Crowe playing Noah. I recently saw this film and wondered which version of the Bible the writers had used. I was particularly intrigued by “The Watchers”, angels fallen from heaven and encrusted with mud and rock. On screen they looked like a cross between an Ent, from Lord of the Rings and a Transformer! At this point I began to think that this film was based only very loosely on the Biblical account of Noah and the Flood. However, I was aware of a passage from Genesis chapter 6, about the wickedness of mankind, which tells of heavenly beings and beautiful women on the earth producing giants. Looking a little further, and beyond the account in the Bible, is a reference to “Watchers” in the Book of Enoch (Noah’s GreatGrandfather), which is an ancient Jewish text. These “Watchers” are fallen angels who take human wives and give birth to giants. So it seems that the researchers and the writers of the film Noah have done their homework. But when left to the animators, a completely fictional figure has been created, big-time, in true Hollywood style. Do I have a problem with this? Not particularly. I enjoy fantasy films as much as anyone, indeed they are my favourite type of film to watch, and I did enjoy

watching Russell Crowe as Noah. I am also pleased that a film about a Biblical story has been made again. Hollywood will always stretch the original text to its full, and sometimes it snaps. But that is artistic license. The Bible, full of fantastic stories as it is, is more than just a collection stories which were are to read as pure history. The Bible is a long story travelling throughout history, of a relationship between God, known as the creator in the Noah film, and humankind, those who are created. And like any good story well told, when you read it, you will see shadows of yourself in it. Therefore the Bible is an interactive story, and one that is still being told in the lives of you and I today. Long live Hollywood, for it entertains, it amuses, it brings stories to life, it is controversial, it is like the Bible itself. Rev Paul Fox revpaulfox@gmail.com
