I am writing this editorial as Boris Johnson has just announced we are moving to number 4 of the Coronavirus alert level. The message is to work from home if you can, covid passes are needed for indoor venues and the wearing of masks is essential in shop's, churches and other indoor settings. I hope, that however your Christmas turned out, you were able to spend it with the people you love. Thank you to all the amazing Arrow delivery team for continuing to do a brilliant job delivering your magazine each month. I would also like to thank the advertisers who support the Arrow and everyone who provides community information including updates from our local schools. The February issue deadline is Wednesday 19th January 2022. The magazines will be delivered the last full weekend in January. ACKWORTH
This year, despite the concerns, due to Covid restrictions, the Ackworth 74 Club Christmas Candlelight Celebration received considerable support from it’s Membership, family, friends and in particular the local Community. The Christmas Celebration, a blend of Carols, Poems and Readings, began with a Blessing by Methodist Minister Rev’d Naomi Kaiga. It was again, this year, superbly supported and accompanied by the Ackworth Community Choir, who performed their own delightful additions to the evening. Over 60 people attended. Afterwards there was a retiring collection which raised £142 which was augmented by a small donation from Club funds to bring the total to £150 which will be divided between two local charities, The Pontefract Community Kitchen which provides meals for the homeless and the Ackworth Community Library, itself an asset to the village. Afterwards, in the true spirit of Christmas, everyone who attended was entertained to a free Faith Supper in the Methodist Church Hall. The 74 Club would like to thank everyone who supported this event very much indeed so helping to make it happen despite the challenging times and ensure it was an enjoyable and successful event once again. Please note There will be no meeting of the 74 Club at the Methodist Church in January as Club Members will be dining out together at the Kings Croft Hotel and Restaurant. The next 74 Club meeting will be on Tuesday February 8th at 7.30 pm when the Speaker will be Veronica Bird on her life as a Prison Officer. New Members and visitors always welcome.
