What ever this virus throws at us, whatever restrictions are enforced, we can only do our best to support one another and keep safe. Sending my love and best wishes to everyone.

Remembrance Sunday looks like it will be yet another casualty of 2020. In an effort to reduce gatherings, we have printed a poppy for you to decorate at home and display in your window. A safe way to show your support this year. As life remains difficult and uncertain for many local businesses, particularly the hospitality sector, I will do my very best to support them by purchasing gift vouchers for birthday and Christmas presents. We have some wonderful local pubs, wine bars, cafes and restaurants, they need us now more than ever and it would be so sad to lose any of them. If you are stuck for a present idea this year, please bear them in mind.

The deadline for the December issue is Wednesday 18th November. The December issue will be distributed the weekend commencing 27th November. Michelle Sidebottom

COMMUNITY NEWS Remembrance Sunday 8th November 2020 Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has asked members of the public to mark this year’s Remembrance Sunday service on Sunday 8 November at home rather than head to the Cenotaph in London due to the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic. Around 10,000 people usually gather at the Cenotaph each year for the National Service of Remembrance and the two minute silence at 11 AM. This year, for the first time in history, the event will be closed to members of the public in line with the latest expert medical and scientific advice. The service is expected to go ahead with representatives of the Royal Family, the Government and the Armed Forces, and a small representation from the Commonwealth, other countries and territories, all laying wreaths at the Cenotaph. The annual march past the Cenotaph will not take place, but some veterans will be invited to attend the service which will be made covid-secure by minimising attendance and ensuring strict social distancing measures are in place. The public are urged to remember all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice by coming together for a national moment of silence at 11am as the service is broadcast nationwide on BBC One, Sky and ITV. The government has also provided advice for councils in England on how to ensure that those hosting local Remembrance events can do so safely. Measures include reducing numbers, focusing attendance on those wishing to lay wreaths, and observing social distancing at all times. All gatherings involving more than 6 people will need to be organised by a business, a charitable, benevolent or philanthropic institution or a public body. Organisers will also be required to carry out a risk assessment to limit the risk of transmission of the virus. So to show your support this year, please cut out your poppy, decorate it how you choose and stick it in your window. Lest we forget.

Ackworth Senior Citizens Christmas Tea Volunteers from our village have historically fundraised and organised an annual Ackworth Senior Citizens’ Christmas Tea in early December, which is hosted at Ackworth School. Unfortunately, due to coronavirus, this event is unable to take place in December 2020. As an alternative, Ackworth Parish Council, This is Ackworth (TiA) and Ackworth School are looking to treat our senior citizens to a small Christmas luxury in lieu of the Christmas Tea. If you are an Ackworth senior citizen who would normally have attended this event and would like to receive a small Christmas treat as an alternative this Christmas, please e-mail Sue Hollyhead at susanandterry6@talktalk.net or Pip Langfield at pip.langfield@ackworthschool.com by Friday 20th November 2020 with your name, address and contact telephone number. We hope that this alternative, will bring a smile to our senior citizens this Christmas.

Oakfield Park School Oakfield Park School are asking for donations of pre loved toys, games and lego in good condition. Please contact the school if you can help.
