The Attic Boutique celebrates 1st Anniversary On September 25th this year The Attic Boutique, Ackworth’s little gem, celebrated it first anniversary with complimentary glasses of Fizz and 15% discount for loyal customers who popped in on the day! It was a little over a year ago that two Ackworth ladies came together to make a dream come true. Louise Wilson and Ruth Roberts went into partnership to start a ladieswear boutique. You will find The Attic Boutique in the tiny attic above The Halo Rooms on Bell Lane Ackworth, accessed through the salon’s main entrance. In the midst of a pandemic and between lockdowns might not have been the ideal time to start a business, nevertheless Ruth and Louise went ahead with their plan to open their own boutique. Despite the difficulties, they have just celebrated their first successful year! Now, a year on, this little shop is packed with stylish, attractive and eye-catching clothing, everything from casual to party wear and to suit all ages, at purse friendly prices, competitive with the main high street stores, sizes from 8 through to the 20’s. The Attic Boutique also has an attractive web site and now a thriving online business too. They stock a full range of gorgeous couture clothing, shoes and accessories. Everything from tee shirts at £15 to coats at £95. Handbags, boots, shoes, scarves and smart belts are all on display. In readiness for Christmas the Attic Boutique has a range of gifts, scented candles, Tea lights and diffusers by St. Eval of Cornwall, and jewellery by Kate Thornton and Bibi Bijoux, Gift Vouchers too are available. So, if in need of a little retail therapy, especially right here in the heart of Ackworth, don’t delay, a welcome awaits at the Attic Boutique! Or, visit their website www.theatticboutique.co.uk

Poppy Appeal Some Members of the Ackworth 74 Club, Glenys Richardson, Sue Sidwell and Dee Stott have been involved in a project at Nostell Priory, knitting and crocheting poppies the sale of which will go towards the 2021 British Legion Poppy Appeal. The poppies were on sale at the recent October event of the Club and these lovely poppies on sale for between £1.50 - £2 raised £54 for the Appeal. The October Meeting of the Ackworth 74 Club was the most successful event yet of their revised post-pandemic programme. There were 44 Members present to hear a fascinating, illustrated talk from guest speaker, Colin Alderson. Colin, retired hotelier and Chef, had some fascinating stories to tell of his time working in the Royal Household as Pastry Chef to the Queen. Colin grew up on a f arm in the Yorkshire Dales, attended school in Richmond, afterwards going on to Scarborough Technical College where he qualified as a Chef. He spent a short time in Army Catering at Catterick, then worked at Bolton Castle in Wensleydale. While at Bolton Castle he applied for a job as Chef to the Royal Household. When appointed, Colin went to work at Buckingham Palace, this opened up a whole new world to the young chef from Yorkshire. Colin’s talk ranged from the first 3 months trial to ending up as The Royal Pastry Chef working in Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Sandringham House, Balmoral and Hollyrood House in Edinburgh and even on board the Royal Yacht Britannia sailing to Mexico and The Bahamas for a Royal Visit. Afterwards Colin was thanked and loudly applauded for his most informative talk. The 74 Club Members present all agreed it had been enjoyable, a very successful Club event.

ACKWORTH TENNIS CLUB

On Saturday 25th Ackworth Tennis Club hosted Mother and Daughter day to celebrate females playing tennis. It was amazing to see all these lovely girls and their mums down to the courts enjoying tennis. We had a range of abilities from complete beginners to players who have been coming to the club for years. Players had the opportunity to play with their family as well as playing mini competitions and fun games. We aimed to create a positive experience for everyone and hope to inspire more women and girls to play tennis. Alice Robson LTA National Dev.
